I want to import massive amounts of footage from my camcorder and I want to import them into my external hard drive. The drive is plugged in, and is recognized by Finder, but when I hit import and try selecting the hard drive to save it, the external drive isn't there.
View 1 RepliesSo, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying (desperately!) to copy a section of a DVD. it is approximately 1h30mins long, but I only need 10mins for a work project. I am having real trouble doing this. I am new to Mac and so am probably doing something wrong. I'll run through what I've done so far:
1-Ripped the dvd to a m4v format and put it on my desktop
2-Opened iMovie and tried to import the file
3-The file is visible, but is grey and unable to be selected
4-Clicked the file on my desktop to preview it, it automatically opened in iTunes-I don't know if that is normal or not
The file is able to be played in Quicktime.
I inserted the DVD and opened it up to the find the VIDEO_TS folder, I moved it to the desktop, after it downloaded I then moved it to the movies folder under finder. I have tried to open it in iMovie, but it will not recognize it. Do I need to convert the VOB files or something? Do I need software like Toast or is there anything I need to download online?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.4 Ghz MacBook that i bought last summer, and a 250 GB Western Digital external hard drive (powered by computer) that i also bought last summer.
My problem is that My computer will not recognize the hard drive at all. it doesn't show up anywhere, and after attempting to reconnect it over and over, it will eventually pop up, and then disappear, saying that it was improperly ejected.
I have two USB harddrives and neither of them are recognized by my G4. One of them consistently requires two ports for power, so I'm not surprised that one isn't working. However, my backup drive (a Verbatim) should not need that and it is supposedly compatible with USB 1.1 ports. It shows up on a Macbook. I am also quite sure that the ports themselves are working.

My old NTFS hard drive (salavaged from my old PC and in an external hard drive caddy) has two partitions but when I plug it in to transfer my data, it only recognises one of the partitions? (unfortunately the smaller, less useful one. Of course.
I pulled up the information and it said i was only using 35GB and it said I only had 600 some MB available. I tried deleting a movie file from it and the available space amount did not change. I added the movie file back on to it and it took away even more space! I now only have 273 MB available on a hard drive that should contain much much more.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, (Mar 28,2012) Finder was listing my external drive but when I went to eject the drive, it no longer showed in Finder. I cannot eject the drive properly. It is showing on my Desktop. I've done a disk utility verfy disk and it is recognized and no problem was found. I tried a new USB cable and the old Fire Wire (which doesn't work??). I used a different USB port but nothing seems to work. I've also tried restarting. I am running a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8.

I have a mbp with retina display and is not reading my rugged lacie external hd connected via the 2 usb ports. The lacie model that I have is the 500 gb one with the 2 firewire ports and one usb. When you connect it via usb you have to plug use 2 ports one for power the other for info. I'm trying that in the mbp retina and is not recognizing it. It doesn´t appear in the disk utility nor in the system info under the usb ports.

My MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.6.2) suddenly does not respond when the "Enter" key on my external Apple keyboard is pressed. All the other keys work fine. I'm using the Apple low-profile keyboard with numeric keypad--here's a link to it at the Apple Store.
The problem doesn't appear to be with the keyboard; I've plugged it into another MacBook (running the same OS), and the Enter key works fine.
I bought a Mini just a couple weeks ago and a LaCie 2big Thunderbolt drive. It's been working flawlessly, but today it doesn't recognize the drive and doesn't recognize even having Thunderbolt support and I can find nothing on Lacie's site or Apple's regarding this issue.

I haven't had any other problems except that before I downloaded the Lion my Mac would recognize my external hard drive (WD passport). And now it doesn't, I even go to the finder and it doesn't even show up under "computer" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with my external hard drive I plugged it into another mac that doesn't have Lion and it would work. My external drive has everything 1TG of everything.

My father just sent me a DiskGo Edge external harddrive (used by him but only for some email files, no damage I know of) and it is not at all recognized by my computer, won't show up in disk utility or anything- it also won't show on my school's computers which are also macs. I've tried thier website troubleshooting page and no luck there. It did work on a PC before. There are two blue lights on it, and altough two are on when the power outlet is plugged in, only one is on when i plug the USB in my macbook. It's clearly the external itself since it hasnt shown on 2 computers-- but how do I get it to be recognized?

I have been thinking of getting one of those Western Digital FireWire800 drives. But is it possible to set up iMovie09 to use the external drive 100%? So in this way I can avoid having temp files and those massive AIC files on my MBP hard drive?

I've been using my internal drive for iMovie files, but have been doing a lot more with the program recently and the folder has gotten quite large. I'd like to move it to my main external drive (a Drobo). Anybody know if there's a way to do this correctly, from within the iMovie program, to insure that it knows where all the files are? (rather than just moving the folder manually etc.) Is there a setting preferences for example, where it tells it where to store the files etc?

Movies are taking up 121GB and Pictures 31GB. We want to move the iMovie files off the laptop after we create a DVD of our sons basketball season. Recently my wife deleted files by going to iPhoto and selected multiple files and then pressed OPTION + COMMAND + DELETE, to remove them. Afterwards iPhoto said it was updating library and was scanning like up to 84K of items. We only had a library of 6K items. Once complete it did finally show about 1k items left. I would really like to copy files to USB rather than delete them. Help, how do you move these files to USB?

I've made a movie project in iMovie 7, but it's taken 3GB of space on my hard drive and I am lacking space right now, so I need to move it out onto a external hard drive. I'd like to be able to recreate/edit the movie project on another computer.

I am trying to export a two hour movie to watch on dvd after editing for 4 months, and was running on 12gb left on my macbook. I then tried to export it HD (8gb) and it eventually failed, saying it had no space left. Even though the movie wasnt exported, it took my 12gb left down to 4gb, so I tried high quality exporting, and it almost finished but failed right at the end, complaining of no space, and even when the file wasnt where I asked it to be it still took my memory away, now leaving me with 400mb. I am so annoyed, and
I want to know if I can export the movie to my external harddrive (plug in usb) as an mp4 file, and if so how? This would be a HUGE help as I dont want to have wasted so much time!
