View 4 RepliesI have five Macs in the house, all of which can see each other on the local wireless network...but...for some weird reason, none but when they try to connect, I get Connection Failed after several minutes of silence.
When I click Connect As... in hopes of getting a login screen, nothing happens at all. Nada. Zilch. Zip.
The sharing settings on the MacBook are identical to the ones on the other five. Of course, the MacBook can connect the other direction to everyone, including my brand spankin new MBP.
Any clues, oh wise ones? Im stumped. What is it about getting into a simple MacBook that has two G4s and two MBPs scratching their heads?
if im running on OSX and is connected to the internet and I run my win 7 boot camp partition via VMware fusion...
1. will windows on fusion be automatically connected to the internet using the OSx's connection? or is it a separate connection?
2. if yes, what if i disable windows from connecting to the internet, will it still be connected if ran it via fusion?
I cannot seem to connect to the wireless connection when running bootcamp. It says something like the signal is too weak or whatever, but when I run it on OS X, it works perfectly fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking to set up network area storage at home rather than have all my files jamming up my Mac Book hard drive. I'm considering one of two options but I am pretty new to network area storage and therefore after a bit of advise. My personal computer is a Mac although I use a PC laptop for work, both will need to access the networked hard drive. At this stage I just want to store files and itunes but may, in time, wish to stream video content to my TV. Option 1 is to purchase a network area hard drive such as buffalo link station. Option 2 is to purchase an air port extreme and attach a hard drive via USB. This option is slightly more expensive however I am wondering if the benefits of the airport will provide a faster connection?

1) Safari > Preferences > Advanced > "Check Never use font sizes smaller than (28)"
2) File > Open in Dashboard
3) Edit to smallest size
4) Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Uncheck "Never use font sizes smaller than (28)"

I am a new MacBook user. I have a 20" cinema display, and often, once I have disconnected the display I find that application windows which sat in the left side of the 20" screen are now stuck partially or fully outside the MacBook screen. Is there an easy way to bring them back?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've read some posts about macbooks cracking near the palmrest area. Since I bought my macbook in May 2008, my macbook has developed a number of random cracks and chips. Here are some examples:
- About 2 inches of the bezel on the top left of the screen has peeled off after cracking.
- Again, about 2 inches of plastic cracked and peeled off near where the optical drive is.
- Horizontal crack on the top of the little indent to open the macbook
Unfortunately, there isn't an apple store near me so I can't really take it in to have them check it out. Does apple typically fix these for free? I'm a bit worried because I am extremely careful with the macbook yet these cracks and chips continue to show up. Given that there isn't an apple store near me, how exactly would I resolve this problem?
I am using OS X 10.5.7 on macbook pro 3.1. When I zoom my screen (by holding ctrl and scroll). I get a close look of a certain area. which is what I want. However, if I move my finger on touchpad, both cursor and desktop move. I would like the desktop stay unmoved, always show the particular region, only the cursor move. How can I do that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of buying a 24" ACD, but I have one major dilemma - I really want the viewable areas to match up PERFECTLY (it's a huge pet peeve of mine to have the viewable areas mismatched on monitors). I currently have a 24" iMac, so I know I will have to adjust the height of the 24" Cinema Display to match the viewable area of the 24" iMac. So, my question is this - does anyone know if the viewable areas on the 24" iMac and the 24" Cinema Display are the exact same dimensions? I know they are both 1920x1200 but I can't find any mention of the exact measurements.

I've gone through all the usual configuration lists, but I cannot seem to find the one(s) that would impact what is shown under "SHARED".

Suddenly, and spontaneously, pinch to zoom is not working in any area of Motion. I thought maybe I accidentally did some keyboard thing that disabled it, but System Preferences shows it's still enabled, and pinch to zoom is working normally in all other applications. It's just not working in Motion for some reason. I've restarted Motion and that didn't fix it. Also rebooted and surprisingly that also didn't fix it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a client with a fairly basic Mac Pro setup. He has the standard ATI 2600 graphics card connected to two 26 inch Samsung LCDs. The main monitor is ok, but the secondary monitor has about one inch of the far right side that does not work. The desktop area itself is squished in, and not chopped off. So far we have replaced the monitor with another, he has about a dozen at his disposal, we have replaced the VGA cable, and we have switched ports on the video card and re arranged the screen locations in system preferences. No matter what configuration we use, the screen on the right has it's image squished and makes many things look distorted.
Just curious if anyone else has had this issue, and what they've done to resolve it. We've contacted Apple care and they originally blamed the monitor, which is why we replaced the screen completely. At some point in the next couple weeks we may have a chance to bring the system to the Apple store, but then we'd need two monitors to demonstrate the problem.
I'm getting this message when reading a PM, never saw this before. To view this page, you need to log in to area "Protected_Folder" your password would be sent in the clear.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the trackpad on my unibody macbook with the bad screen sadly . Is the "button" area of the trackpad (where the button would be) suppose to be unresponsive to movements, for example, when I move slowly along the button area, my mouse curser does not move at all while any movement in the middle is registered with high sensitivity. It only starts to register when I move towards to middle of the trackpad or quickly along the button. However, three and four finger gestures work perfectly along the button area. I have also notice that the corners of the trackpad are also unresponsive to movements.

About 5 minutes later I was watching a youtube video and the grinding got louder to the point where I could no longer hear the video. I immediately powered the iMac down and upon reboot process, the grinding sound could be heard again. After the booting process, the sound is gone. I am wondering what it was and if I should waste my time taking it in to an Apple Repair Shop
