I am a new MacBook user. I have a 20" cinema display, and often, once I have disconnected the display I find that application windows which sat in the left side of the 20" screen are now stuck partially or fully outside the MacBook screen. Is there an easy way to bring them back?
View 3 RepliesMy problem is taht when i installed windows xp, which im thinking is SP1 cuz its so old, i think i partioned mac os x and now when i try to turn on my MBP all that happens is a white screen. and if i press option key no hardrives or systems show up even Mac OS X please im stuck:/. Also windows xp or mac os x is not loading up so im stuck on a white blank screen
View 21 Replies View RelatedMy intel imac 24" running mac osx 10.5 (i think, most recent one) has become stuck at the grey screen after the apple logo on a restart with the spinning gear going. This happened after restarting after using in windows mode, which I have done many times before. I have tried various things like PRam thing and disconnecting power for a while with no luck. I can start up pressing alt and get into windows mode (which I am in just now). I can startup and press c off the CD in which I have run the disk repair thing that says all is well. I tried repair permissions and it came up with some kind of error ending. I have also tried and archive install which only goes to about 5% and then tells me there is an error with installing certain files in the mac hard drive.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy brother got an iMac and yesterday he tried to install windows xp with boot camp. But unfortunately he made a mistake and the iMac shut down. Now the mac is stuck with a windows xp in it, and when he tries to start up the computer, it says "the start-up sound" and just stays with white screen. It sounds like the mac reads from the xp cd when it starts, but I can't get the cd out.I have looked everywhere and tried everything:
Hold down the primary mousebutton while it's starting,
Hold down "fn" and the "eject" button while it's starting,
and hold down "alt" while it's starting
I can't find any "pin-hole" to a paperclip or something.
I am using OS X 10.5.7 on macbook pro 3.1. When I zoom my screen (by holding ctrl and scroll). I get a close look of a certain area. which is what I want. However, if I move my finger on touchpad, both cursor and desktop move. I would like the desktop stay unmoved, always show the particular region, only the cursor move. How can I do that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo as the title explains, since last Friday I've been trying to figure out why my Macbook Pro started getting stuck on the boot screen with the spinning gear. Sometimes a progress bar appear and it fills like 1/20th of the way and goes back to the spinning gear. However, if I boot into Windows 7, it works fine. I tried using the Snow Leopard install disk to get into disk utility and it won't even boot from cd (For reference, I tried the hold-c command to boot into the cd). The I tried resetting the PRAM, the SMC reset and the fsk thing, no bananas. I have this Macbook Pro since June 2009. I'm shot of ideas, if you guys have no idea what's wrong its a call to Apple, or a meeting with a "Genius" ugh.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've seen plenty of ways to magnify the area around your mouse. Is there a way to magnify a specific area of the screen, leaving your mouse free to do whatever it wants? I.e. something like a box that just sits on my screen instead of following my cursor around.

how much would the repair of this damage will cost? geesh i forgot to remove my iphone wire/connector that was resting in the keyboard of my mac, then suddenly i accidentally closed the screen of the laptop. then afterwards, i heard a cracking sound. plain carelessness. what should i do? will the replacement of this damaged glass costly? i do hope MacCenters in Manila can fix this. i'm heading tomorrow to the nearby MacCenter.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that on a black background, my 17" i7 MacBook Pro has two areas in the lower middle area of the screen, where the backlight is too bright compared to the rest of the screen. It is very noticeable on a black background and grey.. Is anyone else having this problem?
Other things I noticed:
- there was dust on the plastic cover that you take off the case when you use it for the first time
- the aluminium enclosure was slightly dirty, could be rubbed off though..
- there are two minor 'impurities' in the aluminium (?!).. two tiny grey spots/blemishes basically
- there were a few minor scratches on the aluminium casing.
- the apple logo at the back glows in a much warmer (yellow-ish) colour than the previous generation mbp (?!)
- the screen seems not as bright as the previous generation
- the keyboard backlight seems not as bright as the previous generation
I'm running XP on Fusion and left the session open over night. When I got to my computer this morning the session was stuck on the standard XP "Windows is shutting down..." screen. I've tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete, "Shut Down Guest", and "Restart Guest" under the Virtual Machine menu but Windows won't restart. I've also attempted to close down Fusion and restart, but that doesn't help either. At this point on a PC I'd just hold down the power button, but don't want to do that yet on my Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook is currently stuck booting up in windows 7. My shift key also appears to be stuck so holding the Option key when booting up to choose a start up disk isn't an option (it doesn't work). I do not currently have access to an external keyboard. I do have the startup disk. I'm wondering if I can use the startup disk to reset the systems startup disk? Are there other options?

I installed Windows Vista, and Vista boots up fine. However, I hold down the command keys when starting my computer up again, and it won't let me select Mac OS X. It just starts Vista.
On "My Computer" in Vista I see "Bootcamp (C" and "Macintosh HD (E in my Hard Disks Drives. Also, whenever I start up Vista it tells me something about a wrongly formatted drive. My files are still all in the Mactintosh HD drive, but I don't know how to start up Mac OS X.
I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

i had firefox open and i was typing on another site. i opened the special characters window because i needed a unique symbol. when i tried closing that window, it froze. i proceeded to quit firefox so it would go away. it stayed on my screen though, even with firefox closed. next i thought my computer was just being buggy. so, i completely shut it down for a while and logged back on. the window is still there and won't go away.

after the previous attempts didn't work i've tried completely removing firefox from my computer and redownloading it, which didn't work, and restoring my system, which also didn't work.
I have icons stuck on screen and will not got away, what can i do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust wondered if there are any others out there like me, a Mac user and lover in a windows world. all the computers at work are windows, so if I use pages or keynote I cant share with colleagues, i cant print easy from the network, I cant sync my calenders etc. I guess that Macs are used more in other countries but every time I get my Macbook out at a meeting I get funny looks (I don't work in a creative industry) I love my Macbook but it gets frustrating trying to convert documents or having to use office for mac just so I can send the document to colleagues.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.
I did try:
-resetting pram (nothing happened)
-restart in safe mode, holding down shift key (nothing, stuck on screen)
I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
I have osx leopard. It froze up every so often and saying 'too much application memory on start up disc'. I end up restarting my computer. I have over 100gigs on my hardrive. I restarted my computer and now it does not boot up.

So I'm in the library right now and tried to start my computer, and it is just stuck on the blue screen. It worked fine like an hour ago, I don't know what happened. So I hear the chime, and the white screen with apple logo. And then, blue screen and I see that little circle thing going around and around on and off, but nothing. I do hear the fan and hardware. I tried to do PRAM reset, but it doesn't work? I tried to look for other posts with similar symptoms, but couldn't find anything.

View 3 Replies View Relatedeverytime I try to boot my iMac it gets stuck at the first grey screen. No logo, no loader, nothing but a grey screen. I have tried everything here > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 > with no results. The grey screen remains there, with no changes. The only thing that seems to work, but only for a seconds, is holding the option (alt) key at startup. After a few seconds, the pointer of the mouse appears.
