OS 10.5.8. While working in Quark I suddenly see duplicates under the Apple menu for "shut down", "Log out", and "restart". All of these items are listed twice now. There are also Black Frames around anything I click on. (maybe I hit a strange keyborad command by mistake? I've run the Disk Utility from start-up disk, and that found "no problems", but list and black frames still there.
View 2 RepliesI just noticed (I never really looked before) a bunch of login items listed that mostly I don't know their purpose. The logitech control center for my bluetooth mouse is there. That makes sense as to connect my mouse at startup. But I have something called 'Airport Base Station Agent' and iTunesHelper' and a couple of other do-dads for a couple of other small apps (Rogue Amoeba Schedule Help, for ex.) that I have no idea why they should be 'starting' when I log in, nor are they something I even notice when I login in. Are they some kind of background process goings on I don't know of? If I toss this stuff, would it hurt anything? For example, is that Airport agent thing an important background utility that's needed for my computer to connect to its wireless on startup or what?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat do you expect of the next generation of MBP's?I think no optical drive is a given, at least for the sub 17" models. I'm more curious if they will ditch the drive bay like they did with the MBA's. I think the next generation of MBPs will have IPS displays with black frames, built-in SSD, very long battery life and strong specs. Imagine a 13" MBP without a drive bay and optical drive could have room for more battery and discrete graphics card, and probably even be thinner than the current crop.

Part of the message says, "I was unable to send this e-mail because the domain ( gmail.com ) has been black listed due to spam or forgery."
What the heck does this mean? I promise I'm not a spammer, for this is my personal email account.
Could it be possible that someone on the receiver's end has blocked my address or something?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this issue? It happens when I send mail from Apple Mail, my iPhone, and even through Gmail.
Okay Mail 7.3 and word 2011 are opening at login. Nothing is selected under user preferences. UI know there's a way to stop it

I've noticed in the February desktops thread (in the Pictures category) that some people have their drive icon names appearing beside the icon rather than beneath it. How do you do this? Also, some of the photos show the size of the drive as well as how much space is left. How do you do this? See this post for what I'm talking about. [URL]. View 5 Replies View Relatedwell this just started fairly and I really have no idea why, basically when I download a new app like powder game or desmemu for example, the icons will not show, it shows that sort of "paper with the pencil and ruler ect that makes a 'A' mark at the bottom right" icon :/
Is there a way to fix this? I rebuilt the cache and stuff and it didn't fix it.
I would like to select a consecutive list of items (photo's) in 'view as icons' but I don't seem to be able to do that. It is possible in 'view as list/coloms' by selecting the first picture, press shift key, select last picture. But when I try to do this in 'view as icons' I can only select the first and the last picture. All the pictures in between are not selected. Am I doing something wrong? It is possible in windows iview icons by using the ctrl and shift keys, so I was wondering if it's also possible in mac.

When I try to remove it from the desktop, it also disappears from the dock, which I don't want to do. How can I do this addition and subtraction?

It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

I am new to macs, wanted the best they could offer before i became assimilated into the mac world so i waited for the new Mac Pro. Just got it and the only game i am playing is World of Warcraft. I have the 8800GT video card and 4gb of ram, the rest is as they ship it in their "standard version" of the new Mac Pro's.
I can't get over 60 frames per second with the settings maxed out. Even when i take the Multisampling to 24-Bit Color 24-bit depth 1X Multisample.
Everything is maxed out, everything. I know when i have the multisampling turned up to 4x i should be able to get over 60fps when i am like, looking at the sky or something, but i cant get it over 60fps. What do i need to do? I have read on some Blizzard forums about typing in commands like "/console GLFaster 0/1/2" but none of that is changing anything. I am running 10.5.2 of Leopard.
Is there any way to preview a 24fps effect in iMovie? I don't want to have to save as a quicktime @ 24fps to see how it looks.

I use Final Cut Pro X Version 10.1.2 under Mac OS X 10.9.4 to create a slide show video. How can I add still frames (pausing) before and after Ken Burns effect? I tried sandwich a clip with Ken Burns effect by other Ken Burns effect clips with identical starting and ending frames. However, clips are non-continuous when playing the video.

When I set the frame size to 9000 on both computers and then screen share, both computers Kernal Panic.
I'm trying to capture still frames from video. I found video snapshot, but am not sure if its any good. Does anyone have software suggestions?

Second, how well they handle games, not a very picky gamer, but some CoD4 at the monitors native resolution and still being able to get decent frames would be nice. The reason I'm contemplating this is because if it can't run CoD4 or other recent games well my G5 works fine for everything.

Notice pixels appear every 1 frame between 13 frames last about 15 sec on m2v. Why is that? Is there other compressor program than apple compressor. I use Compressor 3.5.3.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Macs, just got an iMac. So I'm working on getting everything transferred over and set up. I got my iTunes library working and I can sync my iPhone 4 and my iPod Nano 5g just fine. When I hook up my iPod its icon appears on the Desktop and I can explore it with Finder and copy/delete any videos that I've shot with it. The iPod also shows up on the left side of the Finder window in the Devices area. Now when I connect my iPhone it does NOT show up here and it seems like I must sync any photos or videos I have on my iPhone into iPhoto or Aperture. I would think it should show up in the Devices list and on the Desktop too but it doesn't. This seems funky to me but it does sync with iTunes fine. Is this normal? I just don't know if this is how it's supposed to be since I'm a Mac newbie. Is there a way to explore the iPhone through Finder to manage and copy the files?

Now, after the wonderful homecoming, the sorting on the Finder is really becoming unacceptable. Why can't it list the folders first and then list the Files? I really need to get this working to effectively target things I need to do. Has someone worked out a solution for this yet? Has Apple? You have a folder of files from A-Z numbering in the thousands, and only 4 folders inside of it that are scattered throughout the thousands of files alphabetically. How do I get ALL folders to simply list alphabetically at the top, before the Finder lists all the files? This doesn't seem like rocket-science, but I'm running out of keywords to search on, and I'm not having much luck. There's gotta be a Finder enhancer or system tweak somewhere, right?

iPod Touch connected via USB and does not appear in the iTunes list. In fact 'Device' is not listed at all. I know the USB port works so it isn't this or the cable. I would like to synch my daughters iPod with her music (which we have done many, many times in the past without issue) but the device does not appear and I cannot find a way for it to be 'found'.
