Software :: Identifying Macintosh Font Used While Logo Created?
Jun 7, 2009
Before my Mac was stolen (yeah, bummer), I created a super logo for my website, [URL]. I used PowerPoint. I now want to recreate this logo, using the same font -- but in Windows. I know it must be out there somewhere to download. Could you Macintosh users please go to my site, look at the logo, and try to identify what font I used? The site once again is [URL]. The logo is in red and blue, with a text call-out bubble above it.

Error: Cannot open document created in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 1.x Solution Found: [URL]
Problem: I don't have my old Excel (or at least I can't find it). I do still have my old copies of Office 95 for PC but that doesn't seem to open it either. Probably because back in the day, it wasn't directly compatible. What I need is to be able to open this file in something and get it converted to OpenOffice, Office X or Office 2003.

After reinstall of OS X 10.7.4, I restored an older copy from Time Machine backup. I want to completely replace the current "Macintosh HD" folder with the folder that TM put inside it. I created a separate user account, that did not exist before to do it. Do I need to create a root account? Is there an easy way to copy /Macintosh HD/Macintosh HD/ to /Macintosh HD/?

I am accustomed to using OS 9 where I could easily identify open applications by clicking on the far right menu heading. I could then click an icon to open the application in order to either use it or to quit those I would rather not have open and using RAM. Can someone tell me how to identify open applications in OS 10.4 and above? I have tried everything and half suspect it cannot be done as easily as in OS 9.

I have a Power Mac G4.
The information on the present 256 MB RAM is as follows:
PC2700U - 25331 - A1.
I want to add an additional 512 MB. How much of the existing RAM identification needs to be identical?

I am getting tired of popping in DVDs in my drives (of six Macs in my house) only to find out that I have the wrong region. Is there a quick way (other than a 3x5 card and a pencil) to see the current region? I don't think I can check in system prefs.

I just recently bought an "apple aluminum keyboard" off of craigslist as a secondary one for work. I didn't notice it at the time of purchase, but the keys are different, such as a smaller return key and the key labels are not the same as my main keyboard which I bought at Best Buy. What this keyboard is? A euro edition? or knockoff?

I just got some internet going again after having moved. I've had my new Octopus for a few weeks tho. So much to my surprise, I open up my gmail account and it's practically unintelligible. Some weird cartoon like font is my default font. As far as I can tell, all the default fonts are activated and all the settings point to the activated fonts, but this is driving me absolutely F__KING bonkers. Has anyone ever had this problem? Now to be fair, I did install some fonts from a semi questionable font disk a week or two ago, so maybe some rogue font has hijacked my web fonts.

I'm trying to get an accurate identification of the iBook white G/3 700 MHz with 12in display we just acquired. There seems to be a couple of very similar models. The Apple Support article is unclear [URL]as to which one we have. One model is an early 2002 release (M8602LL/A), the other a late 2002 release (M8860LL/A).

I found a spotlight search attribute of channel count which is whether a music track is stereo or mono. Is it possible to use this info in iTunes to add a column to automatically sort the music? Is there a hidden terminal command to add this option to the iTunes view options? I understand the difference between mono and stereo having worked with sound for many years.

Recall, but can't locate it now, a freeware utility that converted PC fonts so that they were compatible with the Mac OS. This goes back a few years to earlier operating systems, both PC and Mac. I just downloaded 4 PC fonts I'd like to add to my current collection. Now running OS 10.6.3.

I'm trying to increase the font size of my mac, but I can't find it anywhere. I should be really simple to do so I'm probably missing something. On windows you just right click the desktop > appearance and bang. How can I do it on the mac? Oh and I don't want to increase the font of safari or finder, i already know how to do that, what I'm looking for is a way to make all fonts bigger (including menus)... just like you do on windows, make all fonts 1.2 times bigger.

The default 'Macintosh HD' hard drive on my Intel Mac Pro (OSX10.6.8) is almost full and I'd like to clone it to a new larger capacity drive. To keep things simple I will remove the existing drive and keep it safe as a backup. I understand that I can clone the drive to a new one and make the new one bootable using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Apple Disk Utility but I just have a couple of quick questions.Â
Firstly I believe I must partition the new disk in Disk Utility using a GUID Partition table. What about the naming of the disk? Again to keep things simple I would like the new disk to be named 'Macintosh HD'.Â
Regardless of what I name the new disk when it is initially formatted/partitioned will the cloning process also copy the 'Macintosh HD' name to it? Can you have two disks with the same name connected to the Mac Pro at the same time during the clone process?Â
Secondly, will the cloning process in the Apple Disk Utility automatically make the new drive bootable or are there further steps required after the clone is made?Â
Finally, if I use the Apple Disk Utility to create the clone should I do this from the original Snow Leopard DVD that came with the Mac Pro or should I use the latest version that is on the installed Mac OSX?Â

The name of the Macintosh HD has somehow been changed to a tiny little circle with an "x" it. I think this may have been done accidentally, but I also would like to eliminate the possibility that it indicates some sort of problem. Of course I know how to highlight the icon and select the naming area and just rename it, bit does anyone know if the little circle with the "x" means anything other than someone just accidentally renamed the Macintosh HD somehow?

My MacBook has had song big problems, and all I can get it to do is boot up with the Mac OS X install disk, or the DVD I put ubuntu on earlier. Otherwise I get the grey screen with a folder and question mark flashing on the screen. I am unable to reinstall OS X because of the error, so we (I and a guy on this site) have worked out I need to backup my files using ubuntu, format the computer and then reinstall the OS.
I don't have an external hard drive, but I found ubuntu allows me to use my iPhone in the same way. I have backed up most of my files now, but I cannot access the main folders;
Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Library, Movies, Music or Pictures and I get the following message:
"The Folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "_____".
Another problem is to put these files back onto my newly formatted MacBook, I will have to access my iPhone using ubuntu, and I can't put items onto the Macintosh HD because I get the message; "Error while copying to '(name)'.

I am buying a Western Digital (probably) External Hard Disk Drive today. It will either be 250GB or 320GB, depends on how much money I'm going to have with me. I wanted to know what the best way to format it is so it can be 'read and write' on both Macintosh and Windows in the same time. But if that's not possible, then at least Windows only (Win7) since that's what I use for games and now games are in huge sizes, just got Call of Duty 6 and it's like 11GBs.

I was trying to change the icon of my "Macintosh HD" on my iMac. I'd done this earlier on my Macbook Pro, and I had the same problem as I'm having now. I eventually got it done on the 'Book Pro but I don't remember what I had to do. When clicking "Get Info", in the left-top corner the icon isn't there. It's blank and says "png". Why does the icon not show up? I can't copy-paste it, and it's stuck that way.
