Software :: How Can Change Seven Day Rotating Backup To Copy All Files

Aug 5, 2008

I am using Retrospect 6.1.126 and created a 7 day rotating backup -- on the first day's backup all the files I wanted were backed up to my external hard drive, about 80 GB. On day 2 instead of just backing up the modified files as in a normal backup, all the old files were backed up again, another 80 or so GB. On day 3 the same thing. I now have 267 GB on the external hard drive, at that rate it will be filled in another few days.ow can I change the 7 day rotating backup to copy all files on day 1 and on all subsequent days to only copy modified files as in a normal backup?

Software :: Possible To Copy Time Machine Backup Files To New Disk?

Dec 4, 2009

I currently back up onto a 250gb external hard drive using Time Machine. This is now full, so today I purchased a new 1TB drive. I would like to keep all my backups in one place, so would it be possible to copy all my past Time machine backup data/files to my new disk and then start backing up to this in the future. How to do I get Time Machine to see that I have swapped disks when I come to restore files? Will doing this confuse Time Machine?

OS X Mountain Lion :: Can't Copy Time Machine Backup To New Drive

Jun 25, 2014

I can't copy a Time Machine backup file (Backups.backupb) from one external hard drive to another. Both hard drives are Seagate 1TB Backup Plus. The Backups.backupb file is about 275GB. When I try to drag and drop the Backups.backupb file from one drive to the other (which I've tried three times) it to begins copy but after about 3GBs are copied I get a message that says "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)."

I formatted (erased) the new hard drive with Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Apple Support says I should format the new drive in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) "with a GUID partition," but I don't see the GUID partition as an option when I format the drive. Is this necessary, and if so, how do it do it? I'm using OS 10.8.6 on a 2012 MacBook Pro retna.

I also tried copying the backup files to another drive (a Maxtor HD) and got the same error message.

Applications :: Rotating Images In PDF File?

May 28, 2009

I've been given a PDF file from someone's iPhoto library/slideshow images (by doing a Print-PDF-Save as PDF).

The PDF file looks fine, but several of the images are rotated the wrong way. When the slideshow was presented the images were all in their correct positions, but the PDF file only shows the landscape ones right.

I've tried using the "rotate" tool in Preview, but that rotates all images, which is of course not what I want.

I was hoping Adobe Acrobat pro 9, which I also have, would allow me to rotate images individually, then resave the PDF file but I can't quite figure out how, or if it's possible at all.

Software :: Carbon Copy Cloner Backup - Applications As The Graphic Indicator?

Nov 6, 2009

I have just tried to back up my G4 Sawtooth computer with Carbon Copy Cloner (incremental backup). I put the application into "Applications," as the graphic indicated, then was offered "Macintosh HD" as the source for the files I wanted to back up (but nothing else) and chose my external LaCie drive as the target. Now, when I click on Macintosh HD, it shows a lot of files, but that is not all that is on the computer; there also are all those OS X folders, such as Applications, Desktop, Documents, Network and all that. I was not offered any other option than "Macintosh HD," but silly me, I thought that meant my whole drive, not just the files in the entity by that name that appears at the left side of my screen.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Did Finder Change Some Modification Dates When Making A Copy?

Jun 8, 2012

I just copied a very large number of files using Finder and I discovered that some modification dates were changed.  For me this wasn't a problem, but it's strange and I don't understand why it happened.  I wonder if anyone else has seen a similar behavior.  Here are the details:

I have a Mac Pro running under OSX 10.7.4 with 15 GB of RAM and 7 hard disks.  The disks details are as follows: Internal 1 is 500 GB and came with the computer.  It is my boot drive and has a variety of material.  It's about 75% full.

Internal 2 is 1 TB.  It has OSX 10.6.8 on it for use as a repair disk if I need to run TechTools against my main drive or if I need to run SpringCleaning.  It is about 85% full and contains mainly videos of one type or another.

Internal 3 is 2 TB.  It is 98% full and contains mostly .jpg files.  This drive has a single root folder with 3-4 levels of subfolders.  Some subfolders have as many as 5000 folders in them.  The bottom level folders each have anywhere from 20 to 300 files.

Internal 4 is 3 TB.  It was purchased last week because drives 2 and 3 are getting full.  My intent is to copy drive 3 to 4, then copy the data from 2 to 3.  I'll probably retire 2 since my SMART checks are showing problems.

External 1 is 3 TB and is used only for Time Machine to backup internal 1.

External 2 is 4 TB and is used to backup Internal 2 and 3 using ChronoSync.  I'll be changing this to 3 and 4 soon.

4 days ago I installed drive 4 and used Finder to copy the root folder from drive 3 to 4.  That took about a day.  I then ran ChronoSync in Trial Sync mode to see if everything was OK.  (Perhaps I shold have used ChronSync to make the transfer.)  I discovered that about 8,000 files had discrepancies.  I wrote a simple AppleScript to identify any meta data differences between the files on the two drives.  It's been running for about 12 hours and I suspect it will take more than a day to finish.  So far all that script has found are modification date differences.  I've examined about a dozen of the files and they look OK.

Anyone seen anything like this?  Any ideas what happened?  I have three user accounts on this Mac Pro.  The copy was made in one account with nothing else running, but I was doing a variety of work in another account.  The third account was not active. I just did a better search of this forum and discovered a similar case from 2010.
