Software :: Entourage - Mail Archiving
Jun 19, 2008Is there any way to get Entourage to automatically move older mail to an archive folder? I want to keep it out of my inbox so that my account on the exchange server doesn't overflow.

View 1 RepliesI have been using Gmail for about 7 months, now. I am using it in conjunction with a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2010, i5, 2.53 GHz, running OS 10.7.4 and the current version of Mail) and an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1 with the pre-installed Mail app). I, rarely, use Gmail's web interface and prefer to view and manage my mail using my devices.
I, recently, discovered a Gmail behavior that I wasn't aware of. Whenever I deleted an email from my Inbox on my MacBook, it wouldn't, actually, delete from Gmail. Instead, a copy of the mail would remain in Gmail's "All Mail" folder. It seems that Gmail and I have different ideas about deleting. When I delete, it means that I would, actually, like to get rid of it, not hide it somewhere else. After sorting through the, almost, 3000 emails in the "All Mail" folder and re-deleting everything that I thought I had already deleted (a pain, to be sure), I found the solution to my problem. In Apple Mail, I checked both Trash options in my account preferences then selected Gmail's "Trash" folder and used the "Use This Mailbox For" option to map it to Mail's trash (similarly, I mapped the trash folder on my iPhone to Gmail's trash folder). Now, everything I delete is going to the same place (and actually getting deleted).

I have an email account at my school that I access via IMAP with Apple Mail. Now my school email has a quota, so I have to delete my messages periodically. After using gmail so much, I'm used to not deleting messages. I want to be able to delete the messages on the server and store them on my computer, in effect locally archiving the messages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have decided to use Entourage over Mail due to it's robustness and more features than I can possibly ever use. Here the question:I am coming from a PC using Outlook 2007. I have done my research on how to get my mail off my Outlook and importing it into Entourage.Fine, great and dandy. I haven't performed it yet but I have a couple of questions before running with this.1. I have MobileMe account. Installing that into Entourage was relatively easy. Done.2. Installing a new "mail" account (POP or IMAP), I'm going to assume is the same way BUT if I install this, will it mix with my MobileME? What I am expecting to see is that it would store separately in it's own section. What is right?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn entourage, I used my username, pw, domain, exchange server, ldap, and public folders server. This worked to allow me to get contacts, sync perfectly etc.
However, when I try to enter my username, pw, and put the incoming/outgoing server from the 1 exchange sever in entourage, I get an error that says it can't connect to the server. Is there a way to find out how to find where the info is that I need from entourage? My school isn't supporting mail, only entourage.
Just purchased new 17" MBP and am wondering what e-mail program you all prefer??? We are coming off many years with Outlook.
I set up Mail and it seems "OK" but I then discovered that Office 2008 has Entourage (I thought it was only in the Business version) and I am contemplating moving to Entourage before I invesnt more time in Mail.
We have two e-mail addresses and two different homes that we use our laptop at...with different ISPs...thus need a couple of different configurations.
From past reading I have heard not too positive comments on both Mail and Entourage...what are the issues with each
My wife runs all her emails through entourage. This is a HUGE memory hog and just generally a big and bulky mail client. She has an 07 black macbook running snow leopard. Is there an easy way to simply import ALL her mail to a apple MAIL. I get that I would have to reconfigured where her email accounts dump their mail in the future. But I'm just wondering how I would get her THOUSANDS of emails over to MAIL, and if it is even possible.

We downloaded a set of sounds for this.
What is the rule that we need to use to make these sounds work?
well I'm about to start using either Mail or Entourage for my yahoo and Gmail accounts. I know that for Yahoo you need to pay $19.99/year or so to get it work on Mail/Entourage so I guess I got no choice but to do so. This will be my first time ever using a mail app because for years I've used the website-based e-mail only, so I'm still not so familiar with these apps. I've tried both Mail and Entourage and so far I like Entourage better. It just looks neater and seems to have more options than Mail (I might be wrong). Are there any downsides of Entourage I should be aware of? Is it possible to import all the birthday etc. alerts that I have on Yahoo mail calendar to Entourage calendar? Also, is it possible for Entourage to notify you when you receive an e-mail the way Mail does? Another thing: I heard that next year Outlook for Mac will be available with the release of Office 2010. Anybody know when MS plans to release it? Should I wait till then and just get Outlook instead or is the release date still quite remote?

Sadly need to give up my MBP for a sony laptop (windows at work) and am having issues finding a simple way to move my emails to Outlook 2007. Would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction.

Been using Entourage 2004 since, well, 2004 or so, but have had thoughts about moving over to Apple's Mail application (especially since a Mac repair guy told me that Microsoft is thinking about not supporting it anymore past the next version of Office).
Just wanted to pick people's brains about the pros and cons of each, and which application you prefer. I'm leaning towards Entourage because of the simple functions it has that Mail doesn't seem to (e.g.: next message/previous message arrows within a mail message window, ability to file messages into folders from within a mail message without dragging), but Entourage seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to randomly declaring incoming mail as junk and I've missed a few important e-mails because of that (even though some addresses are in the address book or from safe domains).
I am in the UK and use google mail, it's been fine for ages but I hardly ever send emails. So today I needed to and I can't! I can send emails from google mail online fine, but my Mac Mail refuses to and I have installed Entourage 08 tonight, updated it and again it fails to send, I have reset my router, set everything to IMAP from POP, deleted and created new email accounts in each programme but STILL neither will send emails!
I am begining to wonder if Google Mail is in fact poo as it seems to cause many problems for people?
1. is an exchange server (works fine anywhere) 2. another exchange server. But since you can only have 1 exchange account, I go throght the web interface as imap 3. is just my yahoo account.I can send and receive emails just fine while at my office (wireless). But at home I can only receive emails from accounts 2 and 3 and I cant send. At home, I have both, cable and DSL both with their own wireless routers
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've set up Rules and they work if I go to Messages/Apply Rules and click each of the rules. However, it does not apply the rules if I click All Rules at the head of that list. Someone advised me to check the boxes of each Rule under Tools/Rules so they would be applied when mail arrives, but that doesn't work. All of those boxes are checked and the rules are not applied when mail arrives.
1. Any idea how to make rules apply as mail arrives?
2. If that's not possible, do you know how to make "all rules" work so I don't have to highlight and click through each of the several rules?
I have a problem with Apple Mail and I need someone to help me. I use Snow Leopard and want to use Apple Mail instead of Entourage. But, everyone uses windows around me and when I send email to them, they get my email as plain text. Here is my question... Even I made changing form plain text to rich text in preferences, my mails go still as plain text. Should I do something with Terminal? How can I fix it? Preferences richt text/plain text switch doesnt work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Entourage 2008 in MAC OS X V10.5 LEOPARD, lot of duplicate mails received and it is stored in inbox. Is there any software available to remove the duplicate email in entourage 2008.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Leopard on my Mac and Entourage to get my e-mail. I set Entourage to check for new mail every 2 minutes. Well, it doesn't. I usually have to hit the send/receive tab to get my mail. But, sometimes my mail will show up automatically.
I also got an error -17896 that says my OS network preferences are not configured to allow automatic connections. And then something about changing the PPP options to connect automatically. I'm not sure if that's the problem. I use Airport with cable modem, a Belkin router, not DSL.
I searched archives for a similar question, found one or two but no answer that helps me. I exported all my email accounts in Mail, as text files AND as raw message source files. Now I want to use Entourage and import the messages, but Entourage does not recognize these files. Why? They are all grayed out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to archive my photos in iPhoto and free up my hard drive space. I made albums of all of the categories/rolls thinking that when I copy them on to DVD and ever need to retrieve them, they will be easier to find.
I'm finding Mac OSX is not making it that easy for me. When I go to Users>Pictures>iPhoto Library, I find folders labeled 2003, 2004, 2005 and then within those folders, more labeling I can't figure out. Most of the files I open to see if I want to include them in backup. Some of the extensions are .attr files which I've never encountered. Could you please tell me what these files mean, if I am in the right place to find all my photos, and if they will ever be able to be archived and retrieved in the folders/albums I've created.
Any recommendations for archiving vinyl...turntables and software?
