View 1 RepliesI use a Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD handycam. I import my clips into FCE4 via the log and transfer window, using the Apple Intermediate Codec. I edit my video, but i dont know where to go from here! What is the best way to export this video without loss of quality? These videos would mainly go onto youtube, iDVD, or a memory drive. I do not have quicktime pro, so any modifications would have to be within FCE4.

I'm looking for something analogous to WinRar or Winzip so I can package a bunch of files together into one and then email to a completely unsavvy mac user and have them be able to extract the files with ease.

I want to archive my photos in iPhoto and free up my hard drive space. I made albums of all of the categories/rolls thinking that when I copy them on to DVD and ever need to retrieve them, they will be easier to find.
I'm finding Mac OSX is not making it that easy for me. When I go to Users>Pictures>iPhoto Library, I find folders labeled 2003, 2004, 2005 and then within those folders, more labeling I can't figure out. Most of the files I open to see if I want to include them in backup. Some of the extensions are .attr files which I've never encountered. Could you please tell me what these files mean, if I am in the right place to find all my photos, and if they will ever be able to be archived and retrieved in the folders/albums I've created.
Is there any way to get Entourage to automatically move older mail to an archive folder? I want to keep it out of my inbox so that my account on the exchange server doesn't overflow.

Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.
is there any way to export the movie as high as my project quality everytime i export the quality goes down.

Now all my still clips are blurred badly. Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

When I export my sequence into a Quicktime movie the quality is much worse than it appears in the editor. More specifically, it looks washed out.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy goal is to export HD quality files to upload to my website that accepts flv, f4v, and mp4 formats. When I try exporting using Compressor to the mp4 format, the sound quality is there, but the video plays at half speed and has vertical lines in it. I've tried it several times, and have even first exported a .mov file from FCP, then used Compressor only to have the same results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Gmail for about 7 months, now. I am using it in conjunction with a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2010, i5, 2.53 GHz, running OS 10.7.4 and the current version of Mail) and an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1 with the pre-installed Mail app). I, rarely, use Gmail's web interface and prefer to view and manage my mail using my devices.
I, recently, discovered a Gmail behavior that I wasn't aware of. Whenever I deleted an email from my Inbox on my MacBook, it wouldn't, actually, delete from Gmail. Instead, a copy of the mail would remain in Gmail's "All Mail" folder. It seems that Gmail and I have different ideas about deleting. When I delete, it means that I would, actually, like to get rid of it, not hide it somewhere else. After sorting through the, almost, 3000 emails in the "All Mail" folder and re-deleting everything that I thought I had already deleted (a pain, to be sure), I found the solution to my problem. In Apple Mail, I checked both Trash options in my account preferences then selected Gmail's "Trash" folder and used the "Use This Mailbox For" option to map it to Mail's trash (similarly, I mapped the trash folder on my iPhone to Gmail's trash folder). Now, everything I delete is going to the same place (and actually getting deleted).

Loss of storage. I have listed below a summary of my hard drive:
15.02 GB free of 59.44 GB
Other: 36.33 GB
Apps: 6.52 GB
Photos: 1.02 GB
Audio: 458.9 MB
Backups: 51.8 MB
Movies: 46.8 MB
I had downloaded a few films accidently onto my hard dive rather than an external drive, after deleting them from the hard drive I noticed that the "Other" had increased significantly.
I just bought my MBP, It came in on 9/3. I'm not sure if I should be concerned by this or not.
I've had the MBP for 4 days total. Watts and the System Profiler both show that I've had 6 cycles. I'm down to 5506 mAh from 5770 mAh, and I have 95% health left. If it continues at this rate, 95 days (or cycles) or so I'll be down to a useless battery. I performed a cycle 2 days ago.
I use my MBP as such - I charge it to 100%, sometimes I'll continue to use it on the charger, other times I won't. After its charged, if I leave my room with it, I won't charge it again until it gets down to 40% or less. I'll plug it in at the end of the night, and let it charge up. Sometimes I'll take it off the charger once I go to bed, other times I'll let it charge throughout the night.
I've searched around, and haven't found a similar issue. Most of the ones I see are after a few months they are having battery issues. The Battery FAQ doesn't really answer this question for me.
how much battery loss are i7 users seeing during sleep? anyone have comparisons stand by time for i7, i5, c2d mbp and mba?

Is this causing any damage ?!? I havent noticed any ill effects.
I also understand from reading other threads how the processor speed reduces without battery but thats ok considering most of my use is limited to web browsing..

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new MacBook Pro and migrated from my older MacBook Pro using the Migration Assistant. I'm running 10.5.7. Pretty much everything transferred OK, but now when I log in to my user account on the new machine and try to run launchctl load ..., I get the following error:
launch_msg(): Socket is not connected
These same launchctl commands didn't use to cause an error on my old machine before the migration. Also, launchctl works fine as the root user.
The user ID, login name, and entire directory structure are the same for my user account on the new machine as they were on the old machine; nonetheless, something must be different about it on the new machine.
I'm guessing that this is some sort of permission issue, because I'm noticing that I get asked for the root password more frequently during software installs, etc., than I used to get asked on the old machine.
Can anyone suggest how I can diagnose this apparent permission problem and, of course, how I can fix it?
I have here a mac mini 4,1 that keeps losing it's Ethernet connection. If the mac is shutdown and restarted there is no connection, however, if the mac is shutdown, all the cables pulled from the back and replaced then restarted it boots and the connection is back. It was reporting a very strange mac address starting with 00 which I've never seen before and I also had difficulty connecting to it via ARD as it would show in the scanner but not connect unless specifically connected via IP address. At first I thought it might be a system upgrade as it happen when we upgraded to 10.6.8 since then I've wiped it and installed 10.6.3 and still no luck.

I edited a video in FCP and exported it as a quicktime. The resulting file is a little over an hour, about 13gb in size, and has 14 chapters. The quicktime movie plays perfectly. When I build the DVD in iDVD it works perfectly. However, once it's burned I lose the audio in the middle of the 13th chapter until the end. I've deleted preferences, re-exported the quicktime, created new DVD projects, used an older template (I'm now using a version 7 template).... I'm not sure what's going on!

I have a new 27" desktop Mac with the latest software.
I'm trying to send a photo by email without any loss of image size or resolution.
I've tried three ways of doing this:-
- from within the IPHOTO page and clicking on email at bottom
- from within an email in MAIL and clicking on 'Attach' paperclip
- by dragging a photo from IPHOTOS into the mail message
No matter what I do the 2.0 MB photo is automatically reduced to 23 KB even though I click on 'Actual Size (Full Quality)'
There has to be something I'm doing wrong.
Yesterday I upgraded to the latest MacBook Pro (13 inch. 2.4 gig) and have a wifi connection issue. Whenever I start data transfer over wifi to my NAS, airport loses the connection after 2 minutes and obviously the transfer is discontinued. For the past two weeks or so I have been getting a lot of Kernel Panics. Most of them happen when I select Restart or Shutdown. There have also been cases of Final Cut Pro crashing regularly, but I think the Kernel Panics are far more important to diagnose. I have not changes any hardware for at least a year. The machine has 4.5gb of RAM and 40% of the system drive free. I have run Disk Utility to repir the disk as well as the permissions, all coming back with no errors. The only thing that I can think of that changed is that I purchased and ran Disk Warrior 4. It seemed to help tremendously with performance, however, it is the only thing that I can think of that has changed. I am also suffering from some performance loss as well. I get at least one Kernel Panic a day. I have no idea what the KP mean, but they all look similar.
