I've been trying to install XP using boot camp, but when i try to partition the disk i get an error message saying disk needs to be repaired using the installation disk of mac os x, i've tried using the application under os x to repair the disk but i still get the error message, so i when i try to boot with the disk by pressing the "c" key nothing happens and the computer boots normally.

Since this was my boot HD, I took out my Installation DVD, put it into the running system and started the installation file then selected that I wanted to reboot and start utilities. The system then rebooted, the "chime" came, and then, silence, gray screen with apple logo, nothing is happening. What do I need to do, to get further and repair my hard disk?

I'm having issues setting up a Tri-boot system on my Macbook. I can't figure it out at all. I've created the partitions, and began installing XP. After the set up, the machine reboots to finish the install, but I get a 'disk error: press any key to reboot' error after the install. I am not installing though Bootcamp, and I have insured the drive is an NTFS drive, as that is reason the disk error usually appears.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got tiger install discs for my emac but I cant get it to run the install. I tried putting the disc in and clicking the restart button on the screen that says "Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger", but when I click it it just restarts my computer and does nothing. I then tried the alternate install it did the same thing it did nothing but restarted my eMac. I then tried restarting my computer while holding c key nothing once again. Then I tried holding down apple, option, f , and o keys and then typed in cd boot and also tried cdrom boot nether of them worked so i restarted and tried dvd boot/dvdrom boot nothing worked on all the occasion i got a grey screen with a circle with a line through it. What do I need to do to get these install discs to work?

What could the problem be, any tips?

I have a 1TB MyBook from Western Digital. When I connect it via Firewire 800 to my MBP in Windows 7 (Bootcamp) it is recognised but when I start copying (read or write) it just hangs after a while or becomes very slow. If I connect it via USB it works. Do I need some drivers ? If yes, where can I found them? I found this on WD but I have the previous generation i.e. without the digital screen. If I go to the software download, it says that the drivers won't work with the previous gen.

I installed Snow Leopard on a separate HD I put into the lower OD-bay of my Mac Pro. I created a new account under SL with the same name as my old one under Leopard and migrated only my apps folder using Migration Assistant. Then, in the Accounta prefpane, I did a right-click on the newly created acocunt and pointed it to the "old" home folder on the Leopard drive. The problem is: Somehow Snow Leopard has no access to the folder! Any suggestions on what I missed out on? Right now I'm upgrading my old Leopard installation to Snow Leopard in order to make my "old" home folder a "Snow Leopard compatible" one. Don't know whether this makes sense. EDIT: Or is it because my new account surely has a different user ID and if so, what would be the solution? "chown" might break something, I guess.

I get can not install on this computer. I can see the drive from the install disk utilities, partition it (1 Partition, Journaled.) can run verify and repair on it, no problem found.

I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page! Â
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.Â
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.Â

I had to shut down my Mac Pro Server to move it & when I turn it back on it came back up to the log in screen. I went back into the server closet to marry an iPod Touch to it & the Mac Pro was off. So I pushed the power button to turn it back on & now it doesn't get past the Apple screen.Â

I kind of screwed up my drivers because I was an idiot and tried to get some Intel drivers to work on the computer through some cheat thing and now my computer won't boot up. I have an install disk but when I try to reinstall it keeps saying that I need Mac OSX Install Disk 2. I never had to use disk 2 before and I never had one to begin with.

I don't want to use a laptop carry to and fro either. Instead, I am thinking about booting from a firewire 800 disk (7200rpm), and functioning from exclusively. I can take the drive with me, whenever I need to have all data with me at a home machine � more importantly I am hoping I can boot from the same disk on my home iMac and do what I need to do. I just tested it out for to see if the performance is acceptable � I can barely tell the difference! (perhaps a bit longer to boot - but that's about it). My work computer is 27" iMac Core i7 2.8GHz with 8GB ram and my home unit is 24" iMac Core2Duo 2.8GHz with 2GB ram. Will booting OS X on two different machines and changing files get me into troubles down the line? I know that some applications won't like it as they look at the MAC id for license authentication. Any other issues that I should be aware of?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to fix my gf's Macbook Pro w/ 10.4. She had tried to reinstall the OS a few weeks ago, and I think the installation was bad.
So, her computer ended up not booting, and just sitting on the start-up screen.
I decided I would try a full reinstall, with formatting and everything. I backed up her files, and could not get them to delete from her harddrive using my computer (when linked via firewire). So, I booted from the disc, erased her drive, and formated in Extended Journaled.
I tried to install the operating system, on what I assume is a clean harddrive, but about halfway through, it keeps failing. I went into disk utility, and the harddrive says "verified" in the S.M.A.R.T section, but whenever I run verify, or repair, I get an error message saying "Could not unmount disk".
I searched the forum, and there are topics concerning this message when accessing disk utility normally, but nothing about this message appearing while running from the OS disc, on a fresh harddrive.
I have tried everything I know of (which is not much), with no success.
Could this error e the cause of OS installation failure? If not, the only other thing I can think of is that the actual dvd is bad, but it looks fine to me.
I told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.

I'd experiment myself, but the Mac Pro is packed at the moment, and I'd like to know if anyone knows for sure that it will or will not work before digging it out.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac G5 that I have previously had both the HDD and logic board replaced by Apple. It has been giving me a lot of spinning beach balls lately and yesterday would spin when I did anything as simple as opening Safari. I had tried to repair the disk in Disk Utility, but it failed after a few minutes. Last night I restarted it and it got stuck on my desktop, but wasn't fully loaded. I restarted it with the Leopard disk and I tried both to "Verify" and "Repair" the disk and neither worked. This morning when I tried it again, the only option available was "Verify Disk."
When I do this I get the attached message. It is an iPhone pic, so I apologize for the quality. I'd like to get this figured out ASAP, as we are moving out of state tomorrow! My other thought was I could try to boot with the Leopard disk and do a Time Machine restore. I'm not sure if that would help though. I don't have anything TOO important on the internal HDD, but I would like the chance to pull it out and hook it up to another computer to sift through it. I'm afraid if I do the Time Machine restore something might happen and I won't have the chance to go through the HDD.
I have had problems after latest update - parallels, airport loss etc. so I thought about restoring my mac with time machine, but after inserting leopard dvd, I only get the initial leopard "galaxy" screen, nothing else. Tried holding c key, via disk utility, etc. Cant boot up in safe mode nor single mode. Wondering wether it is because I am only using an external screen - the screen of my macbookpro went a long time ago.

How do I install both systems? When I install OS X, there is nothing about creating partitions to leave some empty space for Ubuntu. Besides, I don't know how to get to the booting list to run the Ubuntu installation.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a Mac G4 tower from a doctor I work with. He needed me to delete the whole hard drive before I took it. I booted off the OSX tiger DVD and wiped the drive with no problems, (I even booted it off the DVD the next day, to show my friend that the drive was wiped), but now that I have it home I am unable to boot from the OSX DVD. It shows the apple screen with the apple logo and the spinning... whatever you call it..... but then the screen just goes black after a minute or two. Have ejected the DVD, and retried, Zapped the PRAM by using control opt P+R and by unplugging the G4 and pushing the PMU button next to the battery.

Here is the situation. I have a 12 in Powerbook G4 with OS X. About a week ago I downloaded a security update and once it was downloaded it asked to either restart or shut down the computer. I clicked restart. It shut down and then turned back on but only got to the Apple symbol with the small grey spinning wheel beneath and wouldn't finish booting up past that. I tried turning it on while holding down the option button and it went to the hard disk screen and clicked the right arrow but it still didn't get past that screen.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Power Mac froze, and won't boot. I'm running 10.4. No recent changes, downloads, or updates. Safe mode won't work. freezes on grey start up screen. System CD in drive, won't boot from holding down "c" held down option and selected CD and finally got to disk utility.
Now, when I try to run utility to repair permissions, I get an error stating "disk utility has lost its connection with the disk management tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch disk utility" happens over and over.
When I try to repair disk, I get a red line saying "reserved fields in the catalog record have incorrect date, keys out of order. The volume could not be repaired". Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972). 1 volume could not be repaired.
