Applications :: Safari Not Opening Links In New Tab?

Oct 27, 2007

I can't seem to find the right preference order to make it so when I click on a link that should open a new tab, it instead keeps opening up a new window. I have the first and third option checked in the tabs preference but it doesn't seem to matter. I might be delirious from playing with leopard all day/night, but I just want to figure this one last option out before bed. I Would like to open links in new tab WITHOUT having to hold down the command key.

Safari :: Cannot Send Email Links Through It

Mar 17, 2012

I was using Sarari 5.1.4 to send Email links, but after installing Google Chrome, Chrome asked me if I would like to send Email links using Chrome, I selected YES since I thought it would allow me to send Email links when using Chrome. Now, I cannot send Email links using Safari. I uninstalled Chrome, but I still cannot send Email links through Safari.

I get the following message when trying to send Email through Safari:

An Email message cannot be created to send the link becasue Safari can't find an Email application. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send email. To do so, you might need to install Mail using the Mac OS X Install discs. I tried the following without any luck:

In a Finder window select your home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.

Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.

Relaunch Safari and try again.

I have reset Safari as well without any luck.  Is there any other way to set Safari to send Email links "File> Email Link To This Page" so that it will send Emails

Safari :: What App To Use To Open Document Links

Jun 20, 2012

How do you determine what application will open up document links in Safari?  I am creating a website with many links to xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, doc, docx documents.  When I click on one of these links, it either downloads the file if I have published the site to a host site, or brings me to the file in Finder if the website is accessed from a local drive.  In other words, the site was exported and not published. But if I click on a link to a Pages, Numbers or Keynote file, it opens it up the linked document in that application regardless of whether I'm going from the published site or from the exported site on a local folder.  I'd like the above Microsoft file types to automatically open up in their appropriate apps as well.

I know how to set what application gets opened on your Mac when you open a file depending on the file extension, but is there a way to tell Safari how to do this too??  For example, I've got doc and docx files set up to open Pages when I open those types of files which works fine on my Mac.  But the same behavior doesn't hold true when opening these documents from Links on a web page in Safari. I thought this method would flow through and work the same way when opening document links in Safari, but it apparently doesn't.

Applications :: Safari 4 Tabs / Cannot Locate Links Appear In A New Tab?

Mar 9, 2009

I'm using the Safari Beta but cannot locate a way to make links appear in a new tab rather than a new window. In the prefs it has the ability to place links from other Apps into a new tab, but it appears the only way to do that within Safari is by CMD + click. Is there anyway to make anything clicked open in a new tab instead?

Safari :: Its Links Don't Work In Drop-down Menus

Mar 15, 2012

We use NetSuite which is a cloud based SAS enterprise solution. We spend about 90% of our computing time using this web page. It stopped working with Safari today. I don't think it is an incompatibility with Safari 5.1.4 because the problem didn't start until 3 or 4 days after I installed Safari 5.1.4 plus it still works OK on my home computer that also uses Safari 5.1.4.

NetSuite uses a lot of SOAP and Java. I click on drop-down menus in NetSuite and they typically have words with the associated icon to the left of each word.Today it has the words, but the little file type icons are missing. I click any of the links in the pull-downs and get a NetSuite "page not found" web page.

The same thing happens on all drop-down lists in netSuite. They're all missing their little icons to the left of the words and the links won't work.I tried everything. I deactivated all Safari add-ons and extensions. I deleted Safari prefs. I reset Safari. I rebooted and zapped the p-ram in the mac. Nothing seems to fix the issue. I posted the issue in the NetSuite User's Group and it seems to be a problem specific to my computer.

MacBook Air :: Cannot Click Links Or Fields In Safari

Apr 20, 2012

Just purchased a new MacBook Air for my wife.  While it is a huge step-up from the previous macbook, we've run into a very frustrating problem.  Every now and then Safari will no longer accept any click on links or the ability to enter data into fields.  You tap and click and it's like a brick wall--no response.  We've tried forcing a refresh of that page, still won't work.  If I quit Safari and then go back to the page, it's works.  But unless I quit the app, it just remains an unclickable webpage.

Any thoughts?? I've never encountered this before and it is hard to duplicate as it is not consistent with specific sites or work flow.

OS X :: Javascript Links Not Working With Firefox - But Do Work With Safari?

Sep 2, 2010

I think what I'm talking about are javascript links...when you go to, for example, [URL] I'm talking about the links in the box on the right labeled "Most Watched Video." None of the links IN THAT BOX work for me. By "work" of course I mean go anywhere or do anything. It's as if I'm clicking in an area of a page without links.

This happens for me in other sites with similar links. What gives?!

I've checked Firefox and am running the latest version of javascript. I'm also running the latest version of Firefox 3.6.8. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.4.11 - old system software, I realize, but I simply haven't been able to afford moving beyond this (plus my Mac is a Macbook, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD - old unit).

Safari :: Can't Download, Save, Or Print Pdf Links On Some Webpages

Feb 24, 2012

On a couple, but not all, of my financial institutions webpages, I can't download the statements and save them as pdf. When I click the pdf link, a page opens showing the statement, but to see it all, one has to scroll the screen.  When I try to print it, by clicking File on the toolbar, the pulldown menu gives me only the option of Print Largest Frame which prints only what is visible on the screen in the window.  When I try to save by going to File, then Save As, a window opens for print options giving me two format choices: Page Source (html) or Web Archive, but no pdf.  The statements never download, nor open as pdf.

What is odd, is that this issue is not common to all financial institutions.  On some, the statements read, load, save, and print as pdf just fine. I have updated the Adobe Reader, and all software on my Mac.
