Is it possible to keep a folder from a network as a favorite in the Finder Sidebar, even after the networked computer has been restarted? In the course of the week, the folders I place in my favorites remain (we keep our computers on all week), but we shut down on the weekends, so come Monday morning, all of the networked folders are absent from the sidebar. I'm attempting a work-around by creating folders in my user/Home that then have aliases of the respective folders, then placing that in the sidebar, but I'd love to avoid this work-around.Â
I'm on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac, but the computer I'm trying to remain linked/favorited to is a 2.8 GHz Quad Core tower (both running Yosemite).
I need to make Symbol Links for some files and was looking for a way to make them. I don't want to use Terminal as I am just getting used to using a MAC. Is there a free program out there that will do this?

I noticed that in Safari (5.1.7) (I'm guessing thats the latest) there are icons for your favorites. Most people said they have them on all of their book marks, but I only have them in bookmark folders. I've tried what I can find on the web to get rid of them, with no working way.

I'm running Windows7 in a bootcamp partition, along with OSX 10.6.2. I use Dropbox to sync my files between computers, and currently have all of my Dropbox files in OSX. My drive is currently partitioned approximately 75% OSX, 25% W7. I'm trying to save space on my BC partition, and hence, following this guide: (URL)
I'd like to be able to create junctions of the files on my OSX partition and drop them into W7. This way, I don't have 2 copies of each file (one in W7, one in OSX). However, using Link Shell Extension, I'm not able to create symbolic links/junctions etc to the OSX partition. I also tried setting my Dropbox folder in W7 to be the same as the one on the OSX partition, but Dropbox won't allow it. Basically I want to know how I can mirror the contents of a directory located in OSX in W7, without having to simply duplicate all the content.
I upgraded today to Lion OS and now I can't play my favorite radio stream[1] neither in Safari nor in Firefox. VLC is playing the stream but this isn't so comfortable. Is there something different to Snow Lion in this context?Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith TimeMachine, I backup two external drives (let's call them drive A and B). Recently, drive B broke and I restored the data on a replacement drive and gave the volume the same name as the broken one had. I made TimeMachine aware of the fact that this new drive corresponds to the old one by using the "tmutil -a associatedisk" command as described here: [URL]When TimeMachine started the next backup, it did not perform all full backup of the new drive, though still way more than it should. So far so god.Â
The problem is: if TimeMachine performs a backup while the new drive (the replacement of drive B) is not connected, it does not create the hard links for it. Drive A is not connected either, though hard links for it show up in the Backups.backupdb folder for this backup. If the replacement drive is connected the next time, TimeMachine will perform a full backup of it ... most likely because the previous backup does not contain any hard links.Â

I would like to create a Smart folder that only has applications & utilities in a sub-folder.Â
This will be similar to the default applications folder that shows in the dock, but without all the extra files & folders - just a list of applications.Â
I can do this by esily by just having a smart folder of applications showing only type=application.
However, I would still like to have utilities in a sub-folder.Â
If thats not possible, then it would be OK to have 2 seperate smart folders, 1 for apps excluding utilities & 1 for utilities only.Â
Is there some way in the smart folder options i can exclude a sub directory?
I must have done something to my installation of OS X. When I go to create a new folder, it automatically creates the folder with the name "untitled folder". The problem is, the name isn't selected. Normally, when you create a new folder, you can just type the name immediately. For me, I have to create the new folder, then click on the name to select the text and then type it. Also, when I do go to type in the new name, the text "untitled folder" doesn't disappear. I just type over it.Â

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.Â
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.Â
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an automator actions in Snow Leopard to convert a bunch of small groups of images that i have to single PDF files with multiple pages. What is want it to do exactly is take an input of several files, turn them into pages of a PDF, then give that PDF the name of the first file and then save it in the same folder as the first file, or something to that effect. Essentially I need the output to go to the same location as the source and to have the same name as any one of the files. It seems really simple, but I've googled and dug around Automator to no avail; I've managed to get every step except saving the output file where I want it.
The other ideal thing would be for it to run through a folder and go into all of its subfolders and combine each group of images into a different PDF file. In other worlds, if folders B and C are inside folder A, I can select folder A and it will go into folder B and make a PDF out of all of the images inside folder B and then go into folder C and create a PDF out of all of the images in folder C, etc.
When I download an attachment from an email, for e.g. an excel file, it goes to my downloads folder. All is good. Now, I also noticed it goes to a folder username/library/mail downloads/ excel file. I was not aware of this. Is this by default? Is there a way to not have files download to this folder? I only say this because I download a lot of large files that I send to home from home. They are already in my downloads folder when I save them. I don't want them also in the mail downloads folder creating double space.

When saving files to my folder on the desktop from the Mac Email, it does not replace same name files. Instead it makes a new file by adding (-1, -2, etc.) at the end of the file. Is there a setting somewhere that makes it so that this does not happen?

The logos and links on a website do not show on safari. For exampe, when I go on google the logo nor the search button shows. Also, on facebook non of the buttons at the top left (Friend requests, messages, and notifications) are visible but they work. HELP! When I save a file out of Mail to a local folder, it's not showing anymore! I make a new folder, save files to it out of Mail, and when I view the folder contents in the finder, it's not showing any files!
It's the same whether I save the mail as Rich text or Plain text. If I save as raw email, it saves it, but when I do a search, it only finds the file in Mail and not in that folder?
I can't seem to find the right preference order to make it so when I click on a link that should open a new tab, it instead keeps opening up a new window. I have the first and third option checked in the tabs preference but it doesn't seem to matter. I might be delirious from playing with leopard all day/night, but I just want to figure this one last option out before bed. I Would like to open links in new tab WITHOUT having to hold down the command key.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using Sarari 5.1.4 to send Email links, but after installing Google Chrome, Chrome asked me if I would like to send Email links using Chrome, I selected YES since I thought it would allow me to send Email links when using Chrome. Now, I cannot send Email links using Safari. I uninstalled Chrome, but I still cannot send Email links through Safari.
I get the following message when trying to send Email through Safari:
An Email message cannot be created to send the link becasue Safari can't find an Email application. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send email. To do so, you might need to install Mail using the Mac OS X Install discs. I tried the following without any luck:
In a Finder window select your home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari and try again.
I have reset Safari as well without any luck. Is there any other way to set Safari to send Email links "File> Email Link To This Page" so that it will send Emails

Periodically, all links on a page (any page including Apple) will stop working. Quitting Safari and the restarting works to clear the problem until the next time. The links fail to work with either the mouse or the trackpad.
