View 1 RepliesSafari on my iMac (10.7.4) has been acting up recently. Very slow to begin loading my opening Tabs and CPU intensive. Today it has just stopped working at all. It just sits there with high CPU use and nothing loads into my opening tabs. I've tried Google Chrome and it works fine with the same tabs. Tried downloading the latest Safari and installed it, but it didn't help. Don't know what to do next. I've seen all the warnings about not deleting Safari. Is there any alternative to reloading Lion? Can't I just delete Safari from Terminal and then reinstall from my Safari download and import my exported Bookmarks?

I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...
From one day to the next, the Safari pdf visualizer stopped working. Now when I open a pdf link, I only see the 'grey' safari windows, plus a strange gibberish when i scroll the Safari window. The pdf is there, because I can save it or open it with Preview. I do use occasionally Adobe Acrobat pro (9), which I know to be a potential source of the problem. However, the adobe pdf plugin (which is mentioned in previous threads) was never installed.
What I have already done, and did not work:
1. erase all internet plugins (in ~/Library, as well as in /Library/. As I mentioned, the Adobe plugin was not ther)
2. deinstall Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, just in case
3. reinstall Safari from scratch
4. remove the ~/Library/Safari folder so that it would be recreated
5. remove all Safari extensions

Does this work for anyone since upgrading to Safari 4: Try to save any email document from Mail.app as formatted text to your Desktop. No file ever appears for me... Is this a general bug or a quirk with my system ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am backing stuff up to an external drive (G-Raid 1TB, if that matters), and the process will randomly stop and not allow me to cancel out the copy process once it does so. I have had multiple problems with many drives (lacie and g-raid) in the past before, on different machines (G5 tower, mac pros, intel imacs, etc) so for some reason in my head I figure it as random. I'm guessing there's a hiccup somewhere.
They're all formatted correctly to handle large files, and I know it's not good, but if it hangs up and I pull power or shut down, it'll unfreeze and remount (about 80% of the time success rate, 20% of the time it wont even show up, not even in disk utility). This also occurs when I am going from external drive to external drive and internal drive to external drive. It seems very random. And finder seems to stall out too (like it is now) and when I try to relaunch it, it will not come back until one of the drives that is causing the problem is disconnected from the computer.
Quicklook has stopped workingon my MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8. Pressing the space bar on a file yields nothing. Is there a way to update or reset it so it starts working again?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been connecting wirelessly to the same router for about 4 months now, using DHCP, and having the settings on the automatic connection. I left the computer on, but closed, so sleeping, for about two days. When i opened it, the battery did not yet run out but the internet has not connected since.
I have full connection in internet connect to my network. Status says connected. If I have the IPv4 using DHCP, the status says that i am connected but my computer have a self-assigned IP adress. When I put in the IP manually, the Network setting give me a green light on airport and says that I am connected to the network thru airport. Needless to say, no browsers (Firefox, Safari, Netscape, or Internet Explorer) have been able to connect to the internet.
I have tried running Disk Utility for any errors, but there have been no changes.

Some program or process is opening Safari. It's not going to any pages in a window, it just opens and is on. I shut it down, and it comes back sometime later - I don't know the pattern though. how I can track this down? I'm on a 1 year old iMac 10.6.8?

Safari hangs on print process. Starts "preparing" but never stops preparing. Clicking cancel leads to a continuous "canceling" which never stops. Must force quit safari.

I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount. However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if anyone knows of a good osx based alternative to Process Explorer on windows - what I'd like to be able to do is graph CPU and memory for a specific process and ideally see what network connections a specific process has open. atMonitor seems to do this pretty well generally, but not for specific processes (this is for monitoring a multiplayer flash game).

I was installing X-Plane 9 on my fairly new Mac Pro when it stopped working. I switched disks and nothing happened, the drive just won't spin up. I have tried a number of different CDs and DVDs and none will spin up. I can verify that by looking at the position of the disk when I put it in and take it out, it never moves.I have tried the usual reboot and resetting the PRAM. (I did the command option o r and un-plugged with power button for 5 seconds)I tried calling Apple care 2 times and the message I get is, the call center is closed. That's it, they don't even tell what hours they *ARE* open.

View 1 Replies View Related a few days ago, (after reseting my computer with time machine) my Quick Look stoped working. all that hapens when i hit the space bar (or any other way of opinging quicklook) is the big grey box with nothing in it. I can still see the prevews of the items with coverflow.
When i checked console i got this message every time i trie to open a file " Finder[103]: [QL] Display bundle <QLGenericDisplayBundle: 0x11638e120> did not return a layer although it was required to because it did not return a view either."
My MBP's (October 2007) screen just stopped working. I don't know what's up. It's not the backlight, because I've turned my backlight off before and you can still see the screen faintly, but I can't see anything. I ran to Target to buy an external monitor - but they were out, so I bought a TV (Sylvania lc195slx) in hopes of that working. Well, it didn't work. I am currently using a newer MBP (September 2009) borrowed for a few minutes from a friend to write this and test the TV.
Her MBP was able to hook up to the TV just fine. So now I'm wondering if there is a video driver error or something. This is really bad timing, as I have to do a presentation on Tuesday for a final and I'm still working on finding the information. Anyway, if you can offer any advice to get the screen and/or tv working, that would be great! And I'm using my DVI to VGA adapter to plug my computer into the tv.
The i key has stopped working on my 2011 Macbook Pro. i've tried taking the key off and cleaning underneath, pressing it hard, pressing on the side, tried turning off text to speech...
All the other keys are working fine. Tried to book a genius bar appt but there are none available and i can't afford to pay for tech support!
Suddenly command-W has stopped working on my system (OS X 10.6.4, iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). Instead of closing the current window or browser tab, it takes me to the Finder. I have tried rebooting, but it did not fix it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a WD 2 TB My Book Home Edition external hard drive, I have had it for about a year... it worked fine I had a little over 1 TB of data on the hard drive and after coming home from vacation when I reconnected my hard drive it would not mount. The message was "Hard disk not recognized by this computer" so I properly disconnected the hard drive and replugged it in and reconnected to iMac and still same thing. I have tried everything in the book it feels like and nothing is working, and of course I did not have all the info backup with time machine (I REGRET and beat myself up for not) so I need to recover the data and I am not sure what to do. I did run Data Rescue 3 and it said that there was nothing on the hard drive to recover. Of course I am panicking and I have been told to send it off for Data recovery but that is going to cost up to 2,000 and I just want to make sure that this is my last resort or is it hopeless and should I just seek counseling for all the lost pictures of my kiddos...LOL I did try opening the case and inserting hard drive directly in a hard drive docking station

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a aluminum iMac, which has been working fine until now. A couple of hours ago I restarted it and went and did something else for a couple of hours. I then came back to find my keyboard and mouse not working, I double checked and they were both plugged in fine (I use the aluminum apple keyboard and a kensington mouse). I restarted my computer but it still did not fix the problem (I was still stuck at the login screen). I thought it might be the USB, so I plugged my iPod in, and it did not charge. While my iPod was still connected to my computer I restarted it again and as soon as the screen turned grey my iPod started charging and my mouse worked (the light turned on), but only until the grey apple logo appeared and it then stopped working again. I have tried every USB slot and none of them work. I'm pretty sure my computer was completely updated as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my 24" 2.8GHz iMac from November 2007 flawless until today, 1 of 3 usb ports on the back simply decided to stop working. my keyboard, when plugged in, does not work, however, I usually use this one port with my iPod, when I plug my iPod in, it turns on, says its connected, then ejects automatically, though in the other ports...it works fine in the other ports.
