Google SketchUp uses a Safari web dialog window for the Dynamic Components feature. After installing the update that was pushed out around May 14-ish, the text boxes in the web dialogs have a black background, making them essentially unusable. There is text in the text boxes, but it's black too.

I'm seeing this weird Safari bug where when I "Open in new background tab" on a link, the new tab opens, but its graphic shows that it is selected. See screenshot attached. Anyone else experiencing this? The only thing I can think of that I did to my system is I installed SIMBL and GreaseKit, but I have since uninstalled them both, but the problem still persists. I'm on 10.6.2, Safari 4.0.4.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an MBA 2011 with 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1.7. I am very shortsighted and have struggled with the poor contrast levels between tabs and the rest of the Safari UI. My solution has been to switch off tabs, use windows instead. and configure my right option key as an App Expose shortcut. This works very nicely, but the only fly in the ointment is that when I click on a link I wish to open in a new window, it defaults to always opening in a new ACTIVE window, when I'd usually prefer it to open in the background as per tabs.Â
I have checked and unchecked the option in the 'tabs' preference pane with no luck- do I need to re login to make this stick? CMD-Click works to a point, but it's not reliable, and I find it finicky, even though I've routed it to a touchpad gesture through BetterTouchTool. Is there any other way to force safari to open new windows in the background - perhaps by adding a new item to the context menu? I'd really like to resolve this as I'd love to make the switch from Chrome to Safari, especially with ML coming very soon. Â

When I try to open a pdf online, I get a black screen with the address showing at the top of the window (where it should be). I can open pdfs on my iMac with no problem. I can also open the online pdfs with FireFox without a problem. I think this started happening after I installed the latest version of Adobe Reader. I'm running 10.6.8.

Is it possible to set the rather bright and empty/windows looking iTunes 9 background to black? If not, then I'm going back to version 8. However, I'd like to stick with the most up to date if possible.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm running OSX 10.5.8, installed adobe 9. Now while surfing using Safari some pages load automatically into adobe pdf, but background is totally black, with yellow text. Very annoying. Why can't I just use Apple's Preview as my pdf utility? When I save pdf files they now save into adobe 9 format, can I convert those to Apple's Preview format?

In flash sites and images that are transparent I get a background that is black instead of transparent. I don't know what to do to fix this, I tried everything but can't get it to work. I use safari - but when I open the sites in Chrome there is no problem, but I don't like chrome.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a desperate friend who created about an hour long slide show in iPhoto using "Vintage Prints" theme --it has a black background with photos getting dropped in. There are four segments she wants me to edit together for the whole show for her daughter's graduation party. Is there any way to get rid of that black background and replace it with a solid color background or texture? I have tons of animated textures and backgrounds but I can't figure out how to bring them to the rescue since the .mov is already created...I thought of keying but 'black' isn't the new chromakey blue or green thought of a garbage mask but the shapes of the photos and collages dropping in are not constant..
I didn't see a way in iPhoto to convert that black background to white or color either.

I have an iMac 21inch, Late 2009. I found after it was runing really slow that my hard drive was failing. It told me there were SMART errors on the drive. The computer is out of warranty and I'm in the middle of no where so i have no Mac store to take it to. I bought a new drive, same model, and installed it into the computer. It turns on fine, but after the Apple logo and spinning coge wheel the screen flashes, shows the blue back ground like its going to load the desktop and then goes black.Â
I've tried connecting an external monitor to it and shows up like an extended display. I've tried connecting it to another Mac, a Mini, and the Mini can boot off the iMacs hard drive just fine. If it Target Disk mode the Mini and boot the iMac I get the same flash of blue desktop then it goes black. Â
This is where it gets weird though, I'm sure your thinking, ok the screen is going bad... BUT, I boot off an Ubuntu CD, or the AHT disk and it loads fine and has no turning black. Its only when booting into the Mac OS or the installation disk. Â
One last note is that when its at the black screen and I'm sure its loaded the desktop, if I hold the power button down for about 3-4 seconds, till I hear a click. I then press the button again right away and the screen flashes on showing me the desktop and everything, for about 2 seconds... Â
When I open a PDF document in Safari the background shows as grey and white checks rather than white, how do I fix this

I have spaces enabled and most apps are set to a specific screen (iTunes in 2, Mail in 3, etc.) but when I'm in space 1 and I want to open itunes, I click the icon and it pulls me into space 2, as opposed to leaving me in space 1.
Is there any way to set the apps to just open in the background without becoming the active app, thus pulling me into a different screen.
is there a way to open new apps in the background?right now, when opening a new application, the system will automatically switch to the new app once it is loaded.i.e. i am woking on a word document, and while typing, i start excel from the dock.excel will take 30+ second to load/start. in the meantime i am still using word.after 30 sec, excel loads and automatically switch from word to excel even if i am in the middle of typing. is there any way to prevent the auto switch and load the new app in the background?

Mail is running in the background, but it won't quit or open. I need to reboot (i.e. hold down start for 10 seconds) to restart. Other applications are also very slow to respond during this, incl. Safari. I'm on a Late 2007 Macbook running 10.6.2, which I updated yesterday.

I have this problem on my new MBA (2012) and mac mini (2011), both running the latest update of LION (10.7.4). Basically, if I am using preview, it shows up on my dock no problem and I can close windows/hide/quite no problem. Usually a while later, a copy of Preview ends up showing up in my FORCE QUIT menu (if I happen to be there), but is not visibly open. (see pic).
Odd that it occurs on both. Only things that are non-apple installed on MBA (and mirror with MM) are:
- MS Office 2k11
- Firefox
- ClamXav virus scanner
- Diablo 3

When i watch movies with the lights in my room off, and the frame in the film is completely black, I can see areas around the inside edge of the screen that are lighter in color than the center of the screen almost like light from behind the screen is shining through a little.
Is this normal or was this screen not manufactured properly?

I've built a website in iweb - I've set all the page background and browser background colour to slightly off white - however when I view the website in safari there's a strip of white across the bottom of the page - then if I resize the browser window it updates to the off white colour I have selected... firefox works fine. does anyone else have a problem with browser background like this?
View 11 Replies View RelatedUpgraded to Safari 5 today. As a web developer working on projects, I should have known better, but I did discover a bug:
Safari 5 incorrectly displays some embedded Flash backgrounds.
This site uses SIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) for some text. For those of you that are unfamiliar, it is a JavaScript/Flash combo trick that allows you to show text in a font that is unavailable to the person viewing the site - using Flash. You still type the text out in HTML, but using Javascript, it hides the original text and displays a Flash plugin which dynamically grabs the text and displays it using a different font, often one that isn't commonly used. It's a good thing because if people don't have Flash, it displays the content in text/html, in a browser-friendly font; if they do, it allows the designer to use a wider variety of fonts and have them actually work.
The Bug
On every browser except Safari 5 (including previous versions of Safari), the Flash text is displayed properly with a transparent background. In Safari 5, the text is displayed with a black background.
I tested this on Safari 5, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6.3, Chrome 5.0.375.55, and IE8 for Windows 7.
I don't know yet if adding more variables to the Flash SWF file will allow the black background to go away, but I intend to find out.
Update
It's not just a small website, either. For those of you with Safari 5, check out Adobe's CS5 page. Notice anything weird about the headline text?
I was able to disable saving picture as background from Safari.

Also when I am in the dock section-->view-->background-->change color. I try changing the color but it doesn't change. Am I doing something wrong..or what?

However, when I changed my background via command in the terminal by switching the defaultdesktop.jpg with another picture in the CoreServices folder, My picture does not show up on the login screen instead it is just a plain blue screen. Is there anyway to restore the original login background settings?because I actually found a program "loginox" that easily changes the login picture however, it will not open because it says I have changed the original background photo.
