View 2 RepliesI would like to create a Smart folder that only has applications & utilities in a sub-folder.Â
This will be similar to the default applications folder that shows in the dock, but without all the extra files & folders - just a list of applications.Â
I can do this by esily by just having a smart folder of applications showing only type=application.
However, I would still like to have utilities in a sub-folder.Â
If thats not possible, then it would be OK to have 2 seperate smart folders, 1 for apps excluding utilities & 1 for utilities only.Â
Is there some way in the smart folder options i can exclude a sub directory?
I am wanting to create a Folder inside a Folder { Sub Folder } in Bookmarks.
How do I do this. I had started a Discussion about this here: [URL]
I must have done something to my installation of OS X. When I go to create a new folder, it automatically creates the folder with the name "untitled folder". The problem is, the name isn't selected. Normally, when you create a new folder, you can just type the name immediately. For me, I have to create the new folder, then click on the name to select the text and then type it. Also, when I do go to type in the new name, the text "untitled folder" doesn't disappear. I just type over it.Â

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.Â
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.Â
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
For some reason my downloads folder is missing! How do I create a new one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Apple Mail and what not. So I'm going to refer to what I used to do on my PC to handle some important email's that I received. This was while I was using the built in Windows Mail program. What I want to do and use to do is. While in the mail program I created an "Important" folder for the mail program and I would move important emails that I did not want lingering in my inbox and that I didn't want to delete or anything. Is there some way to create folders in Apple Mail to save some important emails like this? I have 3 email accounts in Apple Mail [Gmail, MobileMe, & Comcast POP].

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just started using an eSata cradle to start doing my backup and archiving (I'm a photographer). Once I fill up the drive I'll be putting them in a safe but I'd like to have a printout bundled with them that lists all the jobs that are on the drive (the jobs are separated and named by folder on the drive)
I could go through and write them all down manually but I'd love to have a program that could automate it for me.
I'm working on a macpro that is running OSX 10.4
Starting out on iPhoto 09. At the moment all my photos are organised in folders, eg Holiday July 08, New year 07, Childs 4th B_day, Funfair March 05 etc I would like to keep them in this order if possible, and start using iPhoto to tag, and organise them all. Reason I want them still in folders is that I also have a Windows PC, Xbox 360, and want to be able to sort them on here to, which wont have iPhoto's organisation and so need the folder structure.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt seems that every time I open iPhoto, it creates a new folder named "Library recovered Photos 1, ...2, ...3, etc". This folders are filled with unix files with very long names in alphanumeric characters. I first notice this when my HD was getting filled to capacity and I was barely adding any files to it. I found this folders in the Pictures folder (I imagine it's the root level for iPhoto folders and associated files) and went ahead and deleted all 180 GB of them. Got back my HD space and iPhoto works fine without them...but I have noticed that every time iPhoto is opened it creates a new folder with this files in them. None of my other machines have this files created in them. What can be causing this? I've check Preferences and there's no option to turn this on/off.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a longtime PC user who just got a macbook. I copied all my picture files to my macbook and opened up iPhoto. I used the "Import to Library" option to load all my pictures. I noticed that iPhoto copied all my photos to a Photo Library file under the Pictures folder.
Why does iPhoto make copies of the pictures and store them in a separate "file"? This makes it confusing because I have all the pictures that I originally copied but then when I'm in iPhoto, the program is actually accessing the pictures from this separate location.
- Is iPhoto not able to just read files from a normal folder structure?
- How do I manage/organize individual picture files if I'm not within iPhoto?
- How do I burn picture files to a CD/DVD if I can't see the individual pictures when not in iPhoto?
How do I create a new folder within another folder? When I click the new folder icon at the top of Finder, it always puts the new folder at the bottom of a VERY long list.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Lion, I can no longer move program icons from my applications folder to a sub folder. When I do, it makes a copy and leave the original in the applications folder. When I then try to delete the icon in the applications folder it tells me it's required by the OS and won't let me delete. I'm forced to keep certan applications such as Time Machine and Stickies in the application folder.

I'm new to ApplesScripting. I've found this script that I'd like to change: --This script will make a new folder on the desktop with current date and dialog box--format the date to 2010-11-19tell (current date) to get day & (it's month as integer) & (it's year as integer)set TheDateFormat to the result as text -- asks for folder name with date as default answerset TheFolderName to text returned of (display dialog "Name the folder" default answer TheDateFormat) --make folder with date & user entered texttell application "Finder" make new folder with properties {name:TheFolderName}end tell The desired changes:- Date format should be: 150412 + a letter (a, b, c) if the folder to be created already exists.- Place the cursor at the start of name dialog, no selection active.- The new folders should be created in /Users/Hans/Dropbox/Jobs/Another question is related to execution of the script:- How can I start the script easily with a shortcut key or a Dock icon?- Is it possible to select client name from a plain text file containing client names in separate lines?- Is it possible to have zip files automatically unzipped to subfolder names with the zip package name?- Regarding the Dock icon I could even imagine that I drag a zip or other file from an email or the Desktop to the icon and that I only have to type the clients name to have the file moved to a new folder. user entered texttell application
