I would like a little more information on create a split rar archive in OS X 10.4.11. At the moment I have downloaded winrar and copied the rar file to /bin/ and I can execute the command
Code:
rar a -v50000 testfile
to create a split archive, each part 50mb each.
But the only problem with this is that it will create files using the extension .part#.rar and I would like it to use .r00 .r01 .r02 etc.
I'm trying to batch-extract a large folder of *.rar archives which all have the same password without having to manually enter the password each time. To this end I have managed to install the popular extraction utility 'unrar' and use it via Terminal.
I think I've gotten a handle on using the switches etc, as I have managed to successfully extract one file, without creating a subdirectory, and without having to enter the password (apart from in the single command, obviously...). The next part, applying the 'unrar' command to all 578 files, is proving more difficult..
From a nonprofit that I help, I get a PDF each week that is 10 pages long. I would like to split that automatically into 10 separate pages for filing and posting reasons. Is there an easier way to do that then opening up the file, extracting a single page, saving that page, then repeating 9 times?
I have a huge dmg file of an application, that is 7 GB large. My disk burner is not letting my burn dual yer DVD's, so is it possible to split the file onto 2 DVD's ?
If so, how would you recompile them to load onto another Mac ??
Does anybody know a good program to split a pdf page in two? Not splitting a pdf into two pdf's, but one page into two pages within the pdf.
I have some articles at work that were photocopied 2 pages into 1. Now they are pdf's, but I want to split each of those pages in half. I have had terrible luck with PDF clerk pro, where I have to take 8 steps and it makes duplicates of all pages in the process.
I have documents with a large number of pages, so I'd prefer not to having to do it one page at a time.
I love the feature in windows 7 where you can take a window and put it to the side of the screen. I want to do tis in OSX. I tried Cinch, but I would love something that is free. I also Tried Two up but I want to Dag it to the side of my screen.
How do I split my existing iPhoto library? I wanna split my existing iphoto library by organizing iPhoto libraries by year, so if I create a new library, how can I transfer some of the photos on my existing iphoto library to the new iPhoto library I just created?
I have a huge box of records (probably about 50 or so) that i am recording in order to put on CD. I have about 10 of them done already, with each side of the record in its own garageband project. Now i need to go about splitting each side into separate tracks. Is there an app designed to streamline this process? I've tried splitting the tracks apart in garageband but it just takes forever.I recall hearing that Toast has an app designed to record vinyls, is that what im looking for?
So I want to get new MBA. But going from 500gb hdd MB, will need to set up wireless HDD for my pictures and music. Is it best to do all of it on one external hdd or can I mix n match say podcasts n my favorite pictures on internal hdd n the rest on the external?
I've been trying to figure out how to split the screen in final cut express 3.0, so I can have one video image on one side, and another on the other side of the screen. I can't find it under video filter, transitions or anything.
Tried a search but was tough to wade through the many threads - so forgive me if this is an oft-asked question:I record continuous DJ mixes straight from vinyl records -> mixer -> macbookpro running garageband. I do all of my mixes in one take and no post-processing or anything like that. So my technical production skills are lacking, to say the least. However, I can't stand the one and half hour long single track.
Is it possible to add track markers and track names within garageband - but do so in a way that no gaps are between songs - then export the whole thing as a file for download (or, rarely, burn to a CD)?This way, the listener can skip around to their favorite song, or listen to the whole thing with no gaps to ruin the "journey"
I have a .zip archive on my server that I need to extract. However, I can't just extract on my Mac and then upload what it dumps out to the server - the file needs to be unarchived on the server. However, I'm not quite sure how to do this. I currently use Cyberduck as my FTP client, but I'm willing to use anything else that can extract this if Cyberduck cannot.
I have tried to use the "camera archive functionality" for the first time and got a problem, I can't solve myself:
I plugged a SD-Card with content of my Panasonic SD 909 into my Mac and opened FCPX. Then I went to the "Import Media"-Window. The card is shown twice. I think, this is, because it contains different media. Some clips shot in Panasonics "iFrame"-Mode (which leads to h.264), some shots in the well-known AVCHD-mode. First is shown in the one camera-card, second in the other. Importing media from this card(s) into an FCPX event works without problems.
No I activated one of the two cards in the upper right panel and clicked on "create archive" (or similar, I use the german translation). A window pops up where I can choose the destination for the archive (I have chosen my desktop first). I did not activate the option "create favorite" for now and started processing.
It took a long while (about 18 GB of data), but then the archive was created and in the finder, I can see it on my desktop. Annotation: Selecting the first or second camera-card for archiving leads to the same result. In both cases a archive was generated which stores both contens (approved by examining the package size and content in the finder).
But now, the problem(s):When I go to the import window in FCPX again, the archive is not visible. It does not appear in the left panel of the import media-Window. Not as a camera, not as a device, not as an archive. Restarting FCPX and even my Mac does not solve this.I can navigate to the archive via choosing my harddisk/desktop in the left panel and can see it in the "choose media section" in the bottom of the window. It behaves like a folder there. When I open this folder, I only see the h.264-media, but no AVCHD-Clips. This happens, regardless which card I have choosen when generating the archive (tried it with both, and - as said - both ways result in the same archive).
What am I doing wrong? I know, in older versions of FCPX, archives had to be stored in a special folder inside the movie-folder of my user, but this has changed with 10.1.2 and the folder is not there any longer. Is there an other place for the archives? I thought, starting with 10.1.2 it's no matter, where to store them...
Or is this a bug in FCPX (10.1.3)?
If this is on interest, my OS is 10.9.4, the complete system nearly a "virgin" (fresh complete install).

(I'm taking a punt as to this being the correct forum in the absence of any other guidance!) For some unknown reason I no longer seem to be able to save any pdf pages from the web as web archives on to my desktop - or anywhere else for that matter. I try File/Save as. but all I get is a pop-up which states "The document “title of page.pdf” could not be exported as “title of page.pdf". I have never experienced this before now and am sure I have successfully saved such pdfs since I upgraded to Lion.
What im trying to achieve is dowloading and saving a page of images as a web archive then going back and extracting the jpeg images from the folder where I have stored the web archives.Im not having much luck yet.

I have an Imac (late 2009) and I am connected to the internet through a provider and I have my own network which nobody else has the password to. I use WPA protection and it is a strong password. Nobody else uses my computer.
I use Kaspersky Internet Security and I started a quick scan and some how there are password protected archives that I have no access to.
I just realized looking at my iPhone that most of my notes have disappeared or were duplicated a number of times. So I checked my email on my Mac where I could usually find my notes and they are missing there too. Does iCloud include archives of back ups where I can recover the notes? If so, how do I recover them?
How can I configure OS X to not automatically unzip archive files when I double click on them, but instead simply open them in the default archive handler tool?
I know archives can be opened via the context menu, but I would prefer to just double click without causing the archive to unpack.

I have multiple older Time Machine archives from different Macs that I have been going through manually and picking files out and copying them to another drive file by file. I'm running into massive quantities of duplicate files and the biggest problem is muliple iphoto pictures including the same picture in different sizes.
I wanted to give up and just throw the whole Time Machine archive onto another disk so I could format the one it was on and use it for something else. But I got a message reading, "The backup can’t be copied because the backup volume doesn’t have ownership enabled." So I went to manually copy each "Macintosh HD" folder for each date into it's their own respective folders. It worked but required my password for each folder and each of the 19 folders were all ~75GB. Which is impossible because all of that data was on a 500GB drive.
I am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer). What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?
I have to make an A5 booklet for a college project. Pages lacks this feature. Aside from office for mac are there any other ways I can create and print an A5 booklet on my mac??
I am a student at the University of Miami and i need to run MatLab on my computer. They have the MatLab software available to me but only for Windows. They told me that they can install Windows for me but its going to take a week. IM NOT WILLING TO GIVE MY MACBOOK UP FOR A WEEK!!!! Specially becaus ei need it for school(and to browse this site lol). So i was wondering how much it would cost me$$$ to install Windows, is it available for free download? Is it complicated to Install? and if it simple enough can somebody give me a simple step by step?
I just have a quick question about Numbers (iWork '09). I need to graph some supply and demand graphs for school. How would I go about doing this? Whenever I create a graph based on a chart, it just plots each row as it's own line. I can only edit the values in the Y-axis, and obviously I need to be able to work with the X-axis as well.
Update: I played around with it more and figured it out. I guess you have to graph it as a scatter plot and then choose to connect the dots, and remove the dots, rather than choose the line graph, whose icon looks just like a graph of supply and demand.
I'm trying create 200 MB rar files out of a 700 + MB directory. When I check "split archive" and select "user defined" under the volume size dropdown and click create rar, it creates 500+ rar archives! Nowhere does it ask me how big I want the volume size for "user defined". Does anyone know how to use this app? I mean, I know how to alternatively archive into 200 mb parts (zip them, split & concat the zip file) but that requires the user to unarchive twice.
