I have tried to download videos from Youtube, Putlocker and Facebook, trough the activity window, but every time, i try to download the relevant video, it opens up in a new tab with only the video and isn´t downloading it, like it usually do in the downloading window.Â
This really bugs me, because all the sites Youtube, putlocker (except for facebook) i tried before and at that time it worked. (Mac OS X version 10.7.3)
I have been using safari's activity window for downloading all sorts of media by using the activity window. However, the items in the activity window no longer show up. On youtube for example, the mb file is no longer showing up in the windows activity like it use to. In the past, when this problem occurred, refreshing the page would fix this problem but this method is no longer working. I have noticed that this problem is only happening to youtube. When i went to vimeo, the video file could still be viewed in the activity window whilst it was loading, e.g. 1.3 mb of 30mb. I am using a macbook pro running on mac os x with safari version 5.0.3.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!
so, not sure what I did, but recently these little windows pop up that tell me what certain applications are doing. Currently they show up when I change a song in itunes a last.fm window pops up to tell me the song changed, and it also pops up in skype it pops up telling me the other person is typing and when they send there message. It's probably something really dumb that I didn't realize I did, but I can't seem to figure it out.
They are all the last.fm windows covering the screen. They usually don't show up in that mass amount, but I just skipped through itunes so a bunch of them would show up and get the point across
I'm on OS 10.5.8. I just updated safari and java. Now when I open safari, I cannot get a browser window to even open. Not by trying to open a new window or going into my history and opening the Apple page. This is really frustrating since I hate Firefox (Way slower than safari has ever been for me) and now I can't even use Safari.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEver since upgrading to Lion, when I log into LogMeIn each computer I log into opens a new window. I have set the Safari prefs to open new windows as tabs, and it works for everything except LogMeIn. They claim it's a Lion issue. It also does this on Firefox.

View 2 Replies View Relateda colleague of mine has an older MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 4.x. She can use the Activity window in Safari to download a YouTube video, but after the download is finished (20MB or 6MB or ...), the downloaded file is called "videoplayback", without the .flv suffix. Even if she appends the .flv suffix, she can't play them back in VLC or SWF + FLV Player.
It's no biggie, as she can use KeepVid, but I was just curious, why it is that way. Does anyone know?
The left column of Apple Mail viewer window has a function at the bottom allows you to see pop up the "Mail Activity" but very little activity shows in there. Nothing like the separate Activity function which you can open from under the drop down "Window".Â
Is the Mail Activity in the viewer window not working properly or is it supposed to show only very limited Mail Activity? Â
Would be convenient to not have to use the separate window for viewing Activity.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks. I have Startup Items set to launch Activity Monitor and have the Hide checkbox checked, but the window keeps appear at login.
All of the other apps set in a similar manner work just fine (i.e., they start and their windows say hidden)Â ... Why Hide does not mean "Hide" for this one app?

for some reason when i double click a youtube file in the activity thing, it downloads fine and is a .flv i can play using vlc.
But when i try the same with a HD video, it doesnt work, it just loads the video in another webpage, how do i download them.
I am using safari 5.
When I typically save video which I find online the format is .flv and Safari brings the video I click on right to my downloads folder. With .mp4 it just opens the file itself in another window in Safari. Does anyone know how to save the video itself?

I've noticed myself putting up with Safari's minor inconveniences for too long, so I hesitantly downloaded Mozilla's new Firefox 3.0 today. After about 20 minutes of logging in to my bookmarked websites, and adjusting settings, I've got everything running very well actually. It's more elegant and (noticeably) quicker than Safari on my i(ntel)Mac 2.0GHz. But, I have to admit, I'm REALLY missing the "Activity" box (accessed from Window--->Activity). I really favored using it to downloaded buried files in websites (like YouTube .flv's, for example).

I call it "Safari Window Corner" or "Swic" for short. It's a tiny plug-in that does one simple thing. When you bring your mouse right over one of the top corner of a Safari window [it could have a preferences for the corner you prefer], most likely the top left corner, a little blue triangle appears, if you click it, Safari jumps right up into the the corner. This does one simple thing, saves you from having to drag it up to position it. If you're like me you like windows to stay in certain places. And if you are a big user of tabs and web browsing, you'll know windows like to move around a little. Safari Window Corner saves that little bit of time and annoyance [they add up] which I'd gladly pay for. $5 sounds reasonable.

Yes, I'm well aware of Command-click, right-click, etc. Those are not a good solution. It's the surprise new windows that bother me.
I'd like these surprise links to open as tabs rather than windows. However, I'd also like specifically-sized Javascript pop-up windows to open the way they were designed to: As pop-up windows.
I've used Saft in the past. It does a nice job with the first half of the problem, but does not accommodate the specifically-sized Javascript pop-up windows.

Am I imagining it, or did Cmd-W use to close the active tab only? Now when I want to close a tab,I hit Cmd-W and suddenly my entire Safari window closes.I notice in the File Menu that Cmd-W is set to close window and there is now no keyboard shortcut to close a tab.When did this change and why? Before safari 4, I used firefox and loved the download status bar extension.
Is there a way to suppress the window so that it doesn't pop up when you download a file.
Recently when I have been opening up images in new tabs that are larger than the actual window in Safari I haven't had to option for them to shrink and fit on screen by clicking the mouse on the image. So basically the little magnifying glass doesn't replace the cursor for me to scale down any image anymore.
Is there any option to enable or preference file to edit?
Ok, so I love the ability to move a tab to its own separate window in Safari, but is there a way to move a window back into a tab? If not, this would be a nice little addition to the next version of Safari.

At some point recently (I don't recall precisely when) on two different computers under my control (both iMacs: work 10.6.8 and home 10.7.3) I now find that when I open Safari the new Safari window has no keyboard focus. I must tab twice to get keyboard focus on the address bar. However on a third machine I use (MacBook Air 10.7.3) when I open a new Safari window the keyboard focus is in the address bar (as I expect and as it has always been). I've poked around in the Preferences in Safari and System Preferences: Keyboard and Universal Access Keyboard but can't find any kind of setting that might control this behavior (lack of keyboard focus on new window).why this is occuring and how to restore keyboard focus to the address bar on opening a new Safari window?

This is not a crash, as I get no message. Every time I am done browsing, I close the window, and when I want to reopen a window, I have to relaunch Safari. Usually, the screensaver has started when I come back to my computer, but it has happened while my computer was active also.

I'd set up Safari for my son under his own profile and it was working great with Parental Controls. When I went in one day to update his allowed sites, Safari launched but wouldn't open a window. I could access preferences, reset, etc., but it wouldn't open a new window and when I tried to open a tab, it loaded at the bottom of the screen for a split second and then crashed. I've deleted all the safari files, re-installed, downgraded - the downgrade worked but the Parental Controls didnt work. Now what? None of the other Parental Control apps I've tried work as well as Safari's.  Date/Time: 2012-04-29 13:32:29.593 -0700OS Version: 10.4.11 (Build 8S165)
