On the old version of quicktime there was a option in the preferences to start the video playing straight away
In this new version on snow leopard, when you double click a video, quicktime loads it but you still need to press play.
I can't see a option anywhere to make it play vids straight away.
Can I organize the Quicktime player like the old version? With the play buttons / time line on the bottom, outside and away from the video?
E.g., I do not want the play buttons / time line to "float" over the video window. It's distracting for times when I need to pause and scroll over video to find certain spots. It is really in the way.

I just finished exporting a movie from FCPX as a .mov. From there, I shared it with iTunes. I've tried sharing it with iTunes 3 times and each time when it finishes, the movie won't play. It's just a black screen with no audio. The timeline moves but no video. I've done this many times before and all of my other videos play fine. This video is about an hour and a half and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. All of my other videos I've shared with iTunes, that play fine, are shorter. The longest is 25 minutes.

I am a new Mac user, and I bought a mac for the main purpose of video editing. However, all my files are MPEG2, and so far, I have had a very frustrating experience with trying to figure out how to play it back on Quicktime with Audio. I downloaded Pro, as well as the MPEG2 add on. It plays video fine, but can someone please tell me how to get it to play audio step by step?
Lastly, I have Final Cut and iTunes and audio won't play with the video there either. I am assuming once I have it fixed in quicktime, it will work in all other programs too?
I have an iMac G5. Running Leopard 10.5.2. It's working just swimmingly... except that it won't play back h264 video. I have the latest versions of both Quicktime and VLC. Each app handles the video files differently. Quicktime will give me this message: "The movie could not be opened. An invalid sample description was found in the movie." VLC will play the audio, but not the video. My computer can handle HD playback just fine (I watch most of my movies in 720p AVI files,) so that can't be the problem. This is just driving me insane. Does anyone have a solution for me?

I've been slowly but surely figuring out the FCE program. About 3 months ago I editied a video, exported it and when I clicked on the .MOV file it automatically converted it to a QuickTime compatible file, which I was then able to save and upload to YouTube with no issues. I have not updated or changed any settings or anything on my computer since then and now when I export a video it shows up as an .MOV file that QuickTime can't access. Also, when I click on the "more info" button, it sends me to a link with a list of compatible formats and at the very top of the list is .MOV! I really don't know what to do now.
I just want to be able to view the video I edited and post it to YouTube.

I have iMovie 08 on my Mac, and it is the most confusing piece of software I have come across in sometime now.
I am wondering if there is any way possible in downloading iMovie 06 for free? I have tried for an hour and still no luck in downloading, all I can download is updates. so if anyone knows a download link to iMovie 06 . Also, I have a Sony cam corder what records in .wmv format, iMovie doesn't like this, anyway I can download some 'updates' so that I can edit and render videos in iMovie instead of booting up Windows.
As many of you may or may not have realized, iTunes has an annoying habit of not letting one import any video files not in "iTunes friendly" formats. This confounded me as iTunes presumably used Quicktime for playing... so if Quicktime+Perian/Flip4Mac can play them, why can't iTunes? Sick and tired of having to convert AVIs and other downloaded video types for the sake of having them in iTunes, I sought out a way of fooling iTunes via tweaking the File Type / Creator settings on files so that iTunes would accept them.
Start out by choosing the app/utility of your choice. I use FileBuddy (search here for it) but any number of utilities are capable of doing the job.
I then open up File Buddy, drag the video file/s into the main window and then click "Get Info". In the resulting window, near the bottom right is a pull-down menu labelled "Type". Whatever it is currently set to (in my AVI case, it was "VfW"), change it to "MooV" and click "Save" (or "Change All" if you are dealing with multiple files). Voila! Drag the old files into iTunes and there you go!
I have several HD videos from my Sony NEX-3 camera that will not play very well from within iMovie. They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem quite a while now:When I open an .avi file it automatically opens using QuickTime. I'd like that because it's the best player for Apple. The problem is however that I can only hear the sound, there's no image/video.I use 10.7.2. (now updating to 10.7.3), but it already did this before I had OSX Lion installed. If I search for new updates it doesn't come up with an update for QuickTime.Any other player works (although VLC's the only one I tried so far).

I've moved everything from my PC to Mac with no problem....docs, photos, music, movies, etc. However, there are about a half dozen .MOV files that simply won't open. The message I receive is "The document “filename.MOV” could not be opened. The decoder required for this media cannot be found."
I took a look at other video files I brought over from my PC and there are quite a few .MOV files that are playing just fine. why some .MOV videos are playing just fine while others aren't? And more importantly, what do I need to do in order to get these videos to play?

If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?
