I tried playing a video through Quicktime but there was no audio and the program said it needed a codec. Quicktime suggested that I download another progran (DivX player). I downloaded DivX but then the video still does not have any audio output. What will I do?

When I try to play a video on QuickTime I can hear the sound and the bar at the bottom moves across but there's no picture. I have Windows, not a Mac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI work for a law firm and we received a CD which contains a .mov file. When we try to play it in Quick Time, it plays the audio, but NO video. We are trying to play it is Quick Time (version 7.7.1) on a Windows XP Pro PC. When Quick Time first opened, it gave a message saying "Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from the Quick Time Components page." I clicked Continue and it took me to the Components page, but it lists like 10 different components and I have no idea what we need. Is it a CODEC? I have tried converting it to a different format usinig two different softwares and have gotten errors.

How does one play mts format video done with video camera?

On the old version of quicktime there was a option in the preferences to start the video playing straight away
In this new version on snow leopard, when you double click a video, quicktime loads it but you still need to press play.
I can't see a option anywhere to make it play vids straight away.
Can I organize the Quicktime player like the old version? With the play buttons / time line on the bottom, outside and away from the video?Â
E.g., I do not want the play buttons / time line to "float" over the video window. It's distracting for times when I need to pause and scroll over video to find certain spots. It is really in the way.Â

I just finished exporting a movie from FCPX as a .mov. From there, I shared it with iTunes. I've tried sharing it with iTunes 3 times and each time when it finishes, the movie won't play. It's just a black screen with no audio. The timeline moves but no video. I've done this many times before and all of my other videos play fine. This video is about an hour and a half and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. All of my other videos I've shared with iTunes, that play fine, are shorter. The longest is 25 minutes.

I am a new Mac user, and I bought a mac for the main purpose of video editing. However, all my files are MPEG2, and so far, I have had a very frustrating experience with trying to figure out how to play it back on Quicktime with Audio. I downloaded Pro, as well as the MPEG2 add on. It plays video fine, but can someone please tell me how to get it to play audio step by step?
Lastly, I have Final Cut and iTunes and audio won't play with the video there either. I am assuming once I have it fixed in quicktime, it will work in all other programs too?
I have an iMac G5. Running Leopard 10.5.2. It's working just swimmingly... except that it won't play back h264 video. I have the latest versions of both Quicktime and VLC. Each app handles the video files differently. Quicktime will give me this message: "The movie could not be opened. An invalid sample description was found in the movie." VLC will play the audio, but not the video. My computer can handle HD playback just fine (I watch most of my movies in 720p AVI files,) so that can't be the problem. This is just driving me insane. Does anyone have a solution for me?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to play a video in the web browser, the video won't load. It stays blank and sound plays ok.After posting this here, I was told to erase my quicktime preferences file. It works and the problem is solved - but only temporarily. Minutes later, it happens again. I'm sick of erasing this file all the time. What can I do?!

I just had a minor catastrophe when my Mac crashed whilst optimizing after a software update. Disk Warrior run from a network drive highlighted many overwritten files and ultimately I had to bin the HDD and fitted another. Fortunately, all my personal files seem to have been recovered and it was mostly applications and their components which suffered. I've gradually been re-installing things but have noticed that when I view mpg's in Safari, all I get is the progress bar and controls and all white, no image. I've updated QT to 7.3 and am running 10.4.11 as my ancient G3 PB won't run Leo.

When I try to open the file, I get the following error: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file. Following others' advice on a similar thread in this forum, I downloaded the Perian plug-in for Quicktime, and bought the upgrade to Quicktime Pro and the additional QuicktimeMPEG2 upgrade (though I think my file is just an mpeg). But I'm still getting the same error message. I have been able to play the video with VLC, so I don't think the file is the problem. The reason I'm not just using VLC is that I need to be able to go forward and backward frame-by-frame because I'm using still images for a publication. Also, if there's an alternative program to Quicktime and VLC that allows moving forward and backwards frame by frame and taking snapshots, that would also solve the problem.

I purchased a new MacBook Pro. Reinstalled all my applications from my MacBook. But for MPEG Streamclip, it is asking for The Apple QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which I bought back in 2009. The Apple Store isn't letting me download it again so I need to find the .dmg on my old MacBook. What is the filename?Â

Anyone else having trouble opening MPEG files in QuickTime? I was able to fine until installing Leopard. The file is not corrupt or anything. I tried several MPEG files and none of them open. I get the following message.
View 23 Replies View RelatedMy OSX is Lion, (10.7.4) but the Quicktime support for MPEG-2 format is missing. When I look in the Quicktime system library there is QuicktimeMPEG.component & QuicktimeMPEG4.component, but no QuicktimeMPEG2.component. So, I presume its not there. How do I fix this? Do I have to re-install something? I had Quicktime 10.1 on my system, but have now also installed Quicktime 7.6.6. I need to work with some MPEG-2 videos & convert them to MPEG-4 format. I gather I can do this with MPEG Streamclip, but not if MPEG-2 support is missing!

I'm converting from a PC to a iMac and am having trouble with movies playing that I've transferred. My MPEG movies show on the Mac as File Type "MPEG Movie" and my WMV files show as File Type "Plain Text". When I click either of these on it gives me an error that says the files are not movie files and they cannot be played.
What do I have to do to get these movies to play on the Mac?
I have an .mpeg file that says it is 29.97 frames per second, but when ever I press play, it plays at about 23.976 frames per second. I'm trying to convert the file to an .mov file that is 23.976 fps and plays at 23.976 fps, but every time I try the result looks choppy. Does anyone know how I can convert a strange file like this to a proper, 23.976 fps file, preferably an .mov?
