Software :: Can't Transfer QuickTime Files
Jul 27, 2009I've got an older Mac (iMac from around 2006) that uses iLife and an older version of Quicktime. Recently I bought a MacBook with Mac OS X and the newest version of Quicktime. I have a camera that connects into my older mac computer but not my laptop so I thought I could put all the video from my camera onto iMovie on my computer and transfer it into Quicktime. I did that easily, so now I have one 10-minute movie clip on Quicktime. I put that clip onto a USB to transfer onto my Macbook but for some reason I can't open the clip. When I try to open it, it doesn't say anything. QuickTime pops up as in use, but the window doesn't open and nothing plays. Why won't this play? And how can I transfer that clip onto my laptop?

May 18, 2012Just paid for a movie on iTunes, (The Great Escape), but it won't play on my iMac or transfer to my iPad... what gives? When I try to play the movie I get error: "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."When I try to move it to my iPad I get the error: "The Great Escape (1963)" was not copied to the iPad (My iPad) because it cannot be played on this iPad." I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) 64-bit on a brand new iMac 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5 with OSX 10.7.4. I'm a little ticked that I can't see a movie I just paid $9.99 for.Â

Sep 8, 2014None of my mp4 files play on iTunes or QuickTime, both of which are up to date. I have OS X 10.7.5. The mp4 files have all been added to iTunes movies. But when I click 'play', the window is all black / blank although the title of the video is shown in the header, and even the timer . Same with QuickTime.

ITunes :: Transfer Playlist Files To USB Disk?
May 22, 2012I have a nice playlist full of 8 GB of music, now I want to transfer those files (in no particular order) onto my mini USB thumb drive to use in my car. What is the best way to do this in an organized way? I was thinking of right clicking on every album and "reveal in finder", then manually transfer that album's folder to keep it all organized in the USB drive. I'm trying to setup a few USB drives to function like an old multi-CD changer would.

May 6, 2012I have imported a number of Caf del Mar CD's to iTunes, and iTunes keeps scattering the tunes into several different folders in iTunes Media. It also has trouble finding album information, unless it has been downloaded from iTunes Store. Previous versions of iTunes I have tried didn't have this problem.I've tried to tidy the files manually in iTunes Media, but that usually results in duplicates, so I stopped messing with it. I actually wouldn't mind iTunes blowing up my albums into a nightmare file structure of hyper categorization in iTunes Media (Album, Album Artist, Artist, etc.) if only it recognised its own mess when I transfer the library from one iTunes library into another.
An example: I downloaded Cafe del Mar - Essential Elements featuring 13 tunes, two of these can be found in the files Cafe del Mar/Cafe del Mar Essential Elements, iTunes also created the folder Cafe del Mar/Cafe del_Mar Essential Elements containing 0 tunes!?! and the rest of the tunes are found under Rue de Soleil in the root folder, indicating ONE of the artists as the criteria for creating a folder of tunes!?!
I am trying with every fiber NOT to hate this program, and would appreciate it if someone could explain to me how I can move an iTunes Media library of aprox 54 gb from my desktop via an external harddisk onto my laptop. I have tried 4 times, and everytime the result varies. Sometime I transfer 3000 files, other times 4000. Which files follow and don't is random. I lose files tranferring to the external harddisk and lose even more files from the external disk to the new library on my Lap. Do I have to transfer song for song or can this genius program actually transfer a larger amount of files without losing half the files and duplicating the rest?
Is there a limit of size or amount of files?

Dec 29, 2009I wanted to transfer his iTunes library and few pics and files but I had the wrong firewire cable so I went ahead and setup his MBP for him. I now have the correct cable and need to use migration asst. to transfer the iTunes library and files. I tried once but ran into problems. I am transferring from an iMac running Leopard that has 4 user accts. The problem I had is that it tried to transfer all accounts! All I want is the iTunes library from his account and a few folders from his desktop. What do I select when prompted during the migration? Would it be easier to erase the hard drive and reinstall SNL from the cd and use migration asst. from the beginning? I have installed MS Office 08 and I can reinstall that as well.

Feb 29, 2012I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

MacBook Pro :: Transferring Files Over WiFi - Fails To Transfer All Files?
Feb 16, 2010I'm banging my head against the wall with this problem. I have a new MBP 13", 4GB Ram, etc etc. When I transfer files across my network (or the office network), it will consistently fail to transfer a few of the files. For instance, I just tried to copy 50 photos to an SMB share on our server here at the office. The transfer window show the progress of 50 files, but when I look at the folder, there are only 48 files. Sometimes I get less, sometimes I get all 50. The same goes for my home network to an SMB share. I've confirmed this failure over N and G networks. The AP at home and the office are different models and I went as far as purchasing a new one for home since I thought it was the problem. Same results. Is there some hardware error going on here with my wifi card? Is there any way to test it? Are the SMB shares the problem?

Dec 18, 2008When I open one of the files a dialog box comes up that says, "Additional software is required for quicktime to playback this media" with a link to the quicktime components page.
If I just play the file anyway the sound is all garbled and there's no video at all, it just stays black. Also, the same exact thing happens with realplayer. does this mean there's a problem with the files or something?

May 15, 2012In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files. Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files. The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work. I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2. These are all files that used to work just fine with QT. Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

Bad Files Out Of QuickTime Broadcaster
Jun 7, 2012I am using QuickTime Broadcaster (1.5.3, running on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) to stream a monthly sales meeting to our employees. The stream is also saved for later viewing. It's this saved stream I'm having issues with.The resulting QuickTime files are very difficult to deal with. QTB automatically closes a file when it gets to 2GB and starts a new one (a little more than four hours of stream, given my present settings). The first of these files will not end cleanly, but instead has a single frame repeated numerous times. Fortunately, QT Pro understands that the video actually ends at the place where these repeated frames begin, so that part is easy enough to edit out.
It's the subsequent files that have the bigger issue. There seems to be some kind of time code problem. When I try to stitch the files together in any app, including MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, or iMovie, things go haywire. For instance, if I copy the entirety of the second file to the clipboard in QT Pro, then paste it onto the end of the first file, QT Pro refuses to update the view in the viewer. Audio plays, but video doesn't. If I try to save this resulting file, I get "The movie contains an incorrect time value."Often, I can cut out the first few seconds of the second file and it pastes OK. However, this does not always work. Anyway, I do not want to lose any time from the presentation.This seems to happen irrespective of the video format that I've selected for streaming. Does anyone have any experience working with these files?
