PowerPC :: Unable To Wakeup From Sleep Mode / Light Stops Blinking?

Tonight I came into my office and my PowerBook was sleeping. I have an external display and I usually turn my display on and wiggle the mouse (after I turn that on) and nothing happened. I looked and my display was still in standby mode, my wacom and eye tv had the same behavior. The powerbook light stopped blinking (I heard the drive wake) and then nothing. Nothing happened still. I opened the lid, hit the power button and still nothing. Held it down, and nothing. I ended up having to take the battery out and then I started the machine. Since then I've rebooted twice just for fun and since then the below screenshot shows that the "Jessica's Computer" window keeps popping up.
Two questions:
#1 What could have happened or what does it mean when the powerbook is sleeping, then wakes but never really wakes and just shuts off?
#2 What is up with that window opening as though this is some sort of start up program you'd find in windows?
Specs: Powerbook 1.67 ghz second to last rev...rev D I think. 1.5 gig ram. os 10.4.7
I have the new 2.4 GHz MacBook model since last Thursday, and something throws me off a little bit.
When I close the lid, putting the MacBook to sleep, I can still hear the inner workings (fan, maybe hdd) of the laptop for a while. And the light doesn't blink softly and slow like it did on the iBook.
As I come from the iBook, I was used to wait one to ten seconds to get it to sleep after the lid was closed, and the blinking light showed me it was asleep. But the MacBook's doesn't. Is that normal?
PS: I made two tests. It took 28 seconds until the light started pulsing, shortly after the fan stopped spinning and the hard drive reading/writing head (?) stopped in its safe position.
I have the older MacBook Pro with the sleep light on the front button that attaches the screen to the main computer. I noticed that the light no longer blinks when it is on sleep. I recently upgraded my internal HD and have no idea if that could have caused it or not. I guess, since my Mac is three years old, there is also the possibility that the light just got old and went out.
I have a macbook pro 13" and I'm running on Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.6. What happened is that I close the laptop while it was turned on. After a while I opened it and the screen wouldn't turn on. Other thing I noticed was that the sleep light was also turned off, instead of blinking.
my MBP has been asleep for quite some time, im ready to go to school or wherever, and as soon as I pick it up to put it in my backpack the "apple" on the lid illuminates and the blinking "sleep" light becomes solid...wtf? am i holding it wrong? I dont want to risk damaging my hdd.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me or if anyone is having the same problem as me... Since 16th Feb I have not been able to charge my ibook in sleep mode. Every time you put the ibook into sleep mode while the power cable is connected the ibook goes to sleep for a second or so and then wakes up again... If the screen is shut it just continuously keeps repeating the process...
I would be very grateful if anyone could advice me on what to do or recommend any diagnostic checks i should do to rectify the problem...
I have a G5 dual 1.8 power PC...Bought some ram put it in & booted up. Then a red light came on the logic board behind the power button. The machine wouldn't turn on....I called apple care & we rearranged the ram, now the red light is gone but my system still won't boot up. The white power light blinks every few seconds... the apple store told me sorry can't help because your machine is vintage. Even if my logic board is fried is there a place to buy one on the cheap?
I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week. I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.
My MacBook light no longer pulses gently when the computer goes into sleep mode after the cover is closed. This doesn't seem to be affecting battery life, so it is clearly going into sleep mode as always. It's not a huge problem, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen it.
I have a 27" iMac purchased in July 2011. I never had any issues with the trackpad before upgrading to Mavericks. I upgraded a few months ago and started having sporadic issues with the trackpad. When the iMac woke up, everything seemed fine at first. About once or twice a week, after it had been working for about a minute (just enough time to start web browsing), the trackpad would suddenly stop responding. It then progressed to being more consistent (every other day). The cursor was still visible and the keyboard still worked. The trackpad was still on but apparently not connected. I thought it was the batteries, but new batteries didn't work. I could get the trackpad to work again by using Spotlight to open the Bluetooth System Preferences. The trackpad worked immediately when Bluetooth preferences were opened (nothing needed to be changed; it would just start working).Â
However, it would stop responding after about ten minutes. It was interesting because even if I left the Bluetooth System Preferences open, it would still stop responding after about ten minutes. I could use the keyboard to make the preferences window active and it would immediately work again. It would then work again for a few minutes and then stop. I found that removing the trackpad and re-connecting it would cause the trackpad to start working again more consistently. It would only stop if the iMac went back to sleep for an extended period (overnight). Â
The useful keyboard shortcuts are cmd + spacebar to open Spotlight, type bluetooth, use the arrow keys to go to Bluetooth system preferences (hit enter), use the arrow keys to go down to the trackpad, press spacebar to unconnect, again to confirm, and then after the trackpad is automatically rediscovered, press spacebar again to pair it.Â
This went on for about a month, when I had what I suspect was an unrelated problem. The trackpad started acting as if it was being held down (left click was always being pressed). I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it was broken. At that point I had a brand new trackpad. Â
The issue had gone back to happening every other week or so. I thought it might be interference, but I've since physically moved apartments and all the objects around it. It's been a couple months now and it's back to happening every couple of days or so. Since the trackpad is brand new, I have to think this is a software issue. I've noticed the following consistently:Â
1) It only stops responding if I've put it to sleep (I usually do so with a hot corner, but I don't have any reason to believe that's related) and haven't used the computer for more than 12 hours.
2) It'll always work right when it wakes up. It'll stop fairly consistently 1 - 2 minutes after waking up.
3) Time Machine seems to be busy doing something when the trackpad stops (the little icon is spinning in a circle if I have a Finder window open). Uncertain if it's always doing something or if it's coincidence that I've noticed it more recently.
4) As mentioned above, opening the Bluetooth System Preferences will always get the trackpad to respond, but then it'll stop after a few minutes. Unpairing and reestablishing the pairing will fix the issue for awhile (at the very least until the next time the iMac sleeps).
5) I may be imagining this, but before upgrading to Mavericks, I think it used to show the message that the trackpad was connected when the iMac woke up. I no longer see that message unless I remove the connection and setup the pairing again.Â
I've seen lots of people with various issues with Bluetooth connectivity and Mavericks. I'm on 10.9.4.Â

I woke up this morning and my Macbook Pro won't turn on. The sleep mode light is just constantly on but there is nothing on the screen. I've tried shutting down and booting back up. Removing the battery and putting it back on and rebooting. I've tried rebooting without the battery and plugged into the power adapter. I've reset the PRAM. I've took the battery out and held down the power button for 5 seconds. Nothing seems to work.
Also, the last week the battery said "replace soon" and then the other day it said "replace now". I've checked the battery level and it seems to be fine. And wouldn't it just start up from the power cord? I would love for it to just be a battery issue. But it not starting up with the power cord and the sleep mode light being constantly on makes me thing otherwise.
i have a little problem with the sleep light... i don't know when this started, but i notice today, that when i put my macbook pro to sleep, the light just stays on and not "pulsing" like it used to do... is that normal?

13" macbook screen goes to sleep but won't wakeup reliably. I can see a faint dark screen and I hear the computer working but can't see anything. If I press the screen light keys it will flash a view and almost seems to fix the problem. Closing / opening clamshell a number of times eventually causes it to work. The sleep light on the front sometimes stays solid instead of throbbing. I can even plug a remote monitor in and it will display on the remote. Using 10.6.8
I had an iBook, now I have a powerbook. Both have the feature when I shut the computers and they are in sleep mode, the light goes from dim to bright to dim to bright..... It drives me nuts. I have to put my computer in a drawer or cover it up at night. Does anyone know how to turn the light off? or have it be constant? Is there a download that fixes it?
my mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina laptop is having Retina screen problems at startup, bootup and wakeup modes. The main failure mode is, during reboot or wakeup the laptop's Retina display screen does not work, a blank Retina screen results, and the keyboard does not light up. Also, at random times the laptop will just crash and self reboot, but then during reboot the Retina screen does not work but the computer reboots. Additionally, this laptop, compared to my work's PC laptops is lightly used, mostly for web browsing, photo viewing and email. At first this problem was only intermittent, but now the Retina displace screen failure mode has become a chronic repeating failure mode and is happening almost everyday and stays in this Retina display failure mode for a longer period of time. Additionally, this 2012 Macbook Pro Retina laptop had a failed graphics card within its first 4 months of light use, the failed graphics card had to be replaced.

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video..or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom. sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. I've played with the sleep settings
As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
My Power Mac G5 does not go to sleep automatically. I had it set to go to sleep after 5 minutes of no activity. At least 5 minutes past but the computer failed to go into sleep mode. What could be preventing from going to sleep after the specified time?

My iMac G5 (rev A) shuts down immediately after i put it to sleep mode after just starting up the computer. The longer the computer has been on before I put it to sleep, the longer it takes for the computer to shut down while in sleep mode. I already did the hardware test and it said there were no problems.
So I tried closing all my apps and everything, and even set the Energy Saver preferences down to go into sleep mode after 1 minute of inactivity. But it still won't go to sleep! The screen will, but that's all. It's a mid-2007 MacBook running 10.5.8, for the record.
I have a little problem with my last generation 12" Powerbook G4. Sometimes, after I wake it up from sleep mode, the screen has a kind of blue tinge to it, as if there was some blue transparent plastic stuck to it. After I reboot, it's just fine.
Just picked a second hand g5 up which runs like a dream! One thing I have noticed recently after putting the machine on sleep is that it takes forever to respond after been woken. The display and desktop come on instantly but when I click a program all I get is the beachball, the hdd doesn't appear to spin up. Then about 5 minutes later you hear the hdd spin up and away we go back to normal. It doesn't do this all the time though!
I put it on Craig's list so wanted to wipe the drive and figure I'd play around with OS 9 a little just for fun. While in OS 9 it prompted me to upgrade the firmware on the DVD-ROM drive. I thought that sounded like a good idea since it makes some terrible noises when a disc is in... anyway, I did the firmware upgrade and everything went fine. That's the only real change I can think of that might have contributed to this new issue.Anyway, after that I put 10.3 on it again (I had 10.4 on it before) and it wouldn't sleep correctly. Everything looks like its going to sleep ok, then the hard drive spins up, then back down, over and over again endlessly.
The cd drive is making a revving noise in around 5 second intervals when I close the ibook's lid. Here is a video I shot of the noise; it keeps repeating in short intervals (not shown in video
I have a new MacBook, 2.4GHz, 2 GB DDR, that has replaced my iBook G3 after the HD went out. May it RIP. Sometimes when I close the lid at work and put it in the computerbag it will be quite warm when I get it out. Sometimes it won't come out of sleep and I have to do a hard boot. What causes this and whats the remedy?
I've been having some issues with one of my Airport Express units, the one the modem's connected to. I've been on the phone with Apple a few times, and have had my MacBook (brand new) checked out for antenna issues by a Genius. All is well. I've tried resets of all sorts on the Express, and what happens is that in the mornings the main Express is blinking yellow. This morning nothing--not any kind of reset--would change that. is it time for a new Express?
I shall describe the sequence of events as accurately as i can.
1) I havent used my mac pro for a couple of weeks 2) I switch it on 5 mins ago and it boots fine, I log in and launch safari from the dock. 3) Computer freezes, mouse doesn't move, complete unresponsive. 4) I push power button for a few seconds to force a shut down. 5) I power up. 6) boots fine, after surfing the web for a few mins, MP just reboots, no warning, screen just goes black and the fans and chime kick in. 7) doesn't get to log in screen, instead it reboots itself, fans and chimes kick in 8) doesn't like it, computer shuts down, front panel light blinking at 1/2 second intervals.
Is there a way to prevent the PB from going to sleep after the wall charger is unplugged when using the clamshell mode? I'm going to use my PB as a carputer and want it to run for awhile after I turn off the car..I know the PB will go to sleep when it loses power in clamshell mode..
