my friend plugged in her ipod and at first it showed up on the desktop, but then it disapeared and it is not recognized on itunes, but the ipod still says do not disconnect, what should she do?
I hope I can get some help for a bizarre problem I'm having with my iBook G4 (1.2ghz). When I first got the machine (2004) I put in a 256mb Crucial stick and never had a problem. Recently (last 2 months?) I've noticed that a big slowdown so on a whim I checked my "About this Mac" and sure enough it only lists the stock 256mb. Is it possible for the added RAM to have just plopped out?
I'm attempting to upgrade a family member 800mhz iBook G3 from 10.2 to 10.4 using my old iPod as the install drive. (Restored a DMG, etc) Only problem is that (other than being an ancient computer, I guess) is that said iBook doesn't see the iPod until after OSX loads (white spinny guy).
Tried holding Alt at bootup (not listed), setting it as the default boot device (just skips it and goes right to the HD), and just running it from OSX (reboots, straight back to OSX desktop).
Is there something I'm missing? Does this model G3 not allow detecting boot devices at start up? I'm kind of at a brick wall here. Should I just bite the bullet and do a target disk install?
I used this iPod (new) previously on my husbands PC. I recently purchased a refurbished iBook G4 and it works great with the exception of not recognizing my iPod! When I plug it in, it give me the error message: Disc Insertion - The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer. What does this mean? It has been a while since I've used a mac. I've tried restarting my iPod both off and on the mac with no change. I'm worried I'll lose all my music. Have also tried repairing and verifying with no results.
My iBook G4 has 512 MB RAM1.07 GHz i want it because i cant do anything with the version i have rite now. I cant use iTunes for my iPod Touch, get Limewire, run a whole bunch of programs. I want to do alot of stuff with my ibook but i cant. The software is 10.3.9. I thought about getting 10.4 thinking it would be cheaper but its the same price...please help. How would you rate the 10.4 compared to 10.5?
I recently received a 15" Powerbook G4 with Leopard installed on it. I was trying to move some iTunes files when I realized that my 2nd Generation iPod Touch was not being recognized on the Desktop or Finder. The catch is that iTunes did know my iPod was hooked up. Anyone got any ideas on how i can make the iPod visible on desktop?
My brother reformatted my ipod in a windows computer and now it itunes won't recognize it on my macbook. In the finder window, the icon shows i inserted an external drive.
I bought Myst from the app store on my iPod last night, and when I plugged it into my computer, it attempted to sync Myst to it but it wouldn't make any progress. Was taking an impossible amount of time, so I canceled it. Now iTunes won't recognize it. I can't see it in Disk Utility either (although I'm not sure that is possible)
Anyway, I've tried restarting iTunes and the iPod and neither has resulted in success. Ideas?
So my friend gave me his ipod after he bought a new nano. Its a ipod video but it has a problem. whenever you turn it on it has a sad face. I even managed to get it into disk mode but itunes isn't recognizing it. anything else i can do?
i just bought a apple ibook g3 used..everything seems to work just fine except when we hooked the apple ipod to it and it doesnt detect it for some reason..i went into the preferences in itunes and went to the ipod tab..it says no ipod detected..
I recently installed 10.5 onto my iBook G4 (933Hz 640MB) using target mode from my Mac Mini. I couldn't use the Leopard DVD install disc as it has got stuck in the Disc drive of the iBook, even though the laptop was working fine with 10.4.
When I restart it I now get a flashing question mark, i.e. the iBook can't find the hard drive. I can't use Disk Warrior as I can't use the internal disc drive.
I recently received a 'phillips usb 2.0 200gig portable storage drive. I managed to get it be recognized by my ibook g4 once and so I reformatted it for mac. Now when I try to plug it in nothing happens and it isn't found when I try disk utility. The funny thing is. When I plug it into my sisters macbook pro it is instantly found, mounted on the desktop and works as it should.
I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
Right now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.
SPECS ibook G3- 500 MHZ 192 MB RAM CD-ROM currently has 6 GB HD ibook G4- 1064 MHZ 1.25 GB RAM Combo drive 40 GB HD
This is ridiculous. After I went out and got a new screwdriver to install my 1GB stick of RAM, which I got off of Newegg, it is now not recognized by my computer. So now I'm running with 256MBs of RAM. Beautiful, thank you Apple.
[URL] This is what I ordered...Crucial Technology 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory - OEM
I thoroughly made sure this was the right RAM, and even people with my same type of computer have said it works on their posting thing.. 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 15". Anyone know how I can get this to work?
Alright I just picked one up on ebay as something to write on and get used to mac. But my question is can I hook my 5th gen ipod to it?? It's not important to be able to but it'd be nice to be able to charge it while I'm out. I still have my pc at home. Also it currently doesn't have an airport card. do I have to install one or will the belkin usb wireless card I have work?
So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?
i have a powermac g5 dual 1.8 tower. the dvd burner is a pioneer dvd-rw dvr-107d. according to the system profiler, this should be able to burn either - or +R discs and cds. also, the computer belonged to a friend who was using it to burn dvds up until the day she delivered it to me.
i switched out the harddrive and reinstalled everything fresh (in case that matters.)
now when i put in a blank dvd or cd (different brands, different formats) it comes up with an error message that says: This disc cannot be used because it is not recognized.
I own a PowerMac G5 but for my anniversary my girlfriend got me a G4 Cube because she knew how much I loved 'em. I just found out that you need USB speakers.
1. (Even though I don't have speakers) When I put an audio cd in the CUBE.. it recognizes it, but when I hit the play button on iTunes, the swirling beach-ball will just sit there. What's up with that? 2. Can I upgrade the processor and boost the memory up to 1GB?
I recently went through the very arduous process of replacing the harddrive in my aluminum G4 12" PowerBook. The process was a complete pain in the rear, and I ended up ripping a socket off the motherboard.
I have tried troubleshooting, searching this forum, & googling to no avail. I'm hoping someone smarter than me can figure this out.
Short Version:
Purchased this hard drive:

and purchased this external enclosure:

when I plug it into my macbook, PC, or a powerbook, the disk is not recgonized, I can not get Disk Utility to even recognize that the hard drive exists. I thought it may be a bad drive, so I sent it in to Seagate Warrenty, they sent me a new one and I'm still having the same problem. Does anyone know how I can format the drive or any way I can get it to be recognized?
Longer Version:
My powerbook crashed, so I purchased this HD to replace it. I installed the 1st seagate and when i went to install OSX and said select destination drive, there was none there to select. I was able to repair the original HD so I reinstalled it and went to install OSX and it DID show the drive to install it on, so I don't think that it is the computer/motherboard. Then I sent in for the 2nd seagate, tried getting it to work with the external enclosure and installing internally in the powerbook, etc. nothing seemed to work.
I am wanting to install the new drive in the powerbook as the old drive is on its last leg (but currently works). Every thread i have searched for that was similar, there was no solution that I could use.
My G5 PowerPC will not recognize any external drive, on the desktop or Disk Utility. One showed up briefly, but the computer locked up . I've tried each drive on my Imac and they all show up and work perfectly.
I've got a 1.5Ghz PB G4 (128MB Radeon 9700 model), and it would appear that the DVD burner is no longer being recognized. It's out of warranty. I've opened it up and verified that the cables are all connected. I know it is receiving power, because it spins up when I tell the computer to shut down. Symptoms: disc in the drive does not mount, eject key does nothing, Disc Burning in System Profiler says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly.", disc in drive is not seen by Disk Utility, ATA in System Profiler only shows my hard drive.
My WD firewire 800 drive has stopped working, I can hear it spinning when I plug it in but the light doesn't come on and my computer doesn't recognize it. I've tried both the firewire and usb connections.
