I just started my iBook g4 up and after the initial grey screen with the spinning thing and apple logo, it just stays at the blue screen straight after that. I have left it for ages and it is still there and I have tried several times now. Does anyone know what the problem is and how I could fix it?
View 4 RepliesMy IBook G3 will not start up. I can get the gray apple screen with pinwheel and then after a really long time it will go to a blank blue screen. A couple times it went to the login screen instead but in the user id it says "other" and when I try to enter my username and password it won't recognize me. I am a college student and one of the Apple geniuses here did a check of my hard drive and it checked out okay. We were not able to get it to start up in safe mode; it seemed like it was starting in safe mode but then it came to the login screen and would not allow me to login with my usual information. I was able to start up in single user mode and run fsck which found a couple things and after another fsck it said everthing was fine. But, it still gets hung up at startup. When I try to boot from the OS X installation CD it doesn't seem to be booting up with it, it only goes to the screen to install OS X. According to the directions on the Apple support site when I insert the CD and start up holding down the "c" key it should start up and then I should be able to repair permissions but I can't get that far.
View 5 Replies View Relatedjust installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook.She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.
I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect.
I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.
The LCD display on my ibook will get a intermittent blue tint. I have no idea what could be causing it. The LCD seems to be in good shape.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter installing an app ('Detour') I was asked to (or it was suggested that I should) restart my computer. I did so, and now my 1.33GHz iBook G4 turns on - but it will not go any further than a blank blue screen (after the initial grey screen that appears.) Thankfully, all my data is on an external drive. I keep my music and footage which I have shot on there amongst other things. I also have a backup on my external via Time Machine of all my data which I keep on the iBook drive, so nothing should be lost.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was given an ibook g4 a1133 but when i boot it all i get is the blue screen with acursor on it which i can move and nothing else.It gets past the loading osx then thats when i see the blue screen, have tried ti install linux but do not seem to be able to boot from the cd using the c key nothing happens .As I am new to macs I need some help if that is possible, so any advice would be appreciated I have no discs with it so am unable see what os version is installed or any information at all, that so far I have been able to get.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverytime I turn it on I get a black box asking to shut down or restart the mac. I have managed to get it to turn on to powersave and managed to update the software. Thought it might help but just made it worse - it won't boot up at all now past an apple symbol with a little swirly thingy underneath (I apologise now for my lack of intelligence when it comes to computers/knowledge/names of things!) The first time I managed to boot the computer up it came up with the grey screen and a little folder flashing between a face and a question mark which I assume meant it couldn't find anything but that appears to have gone away now. I bought this computer new from Apple about 2 - 3 years ago and no disks were provided with it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was on the internet with my iBook G4 the system froze for over 10 minutes so i did a hard shutdown of the system (held the power button) When I attempted to turn the computer back on, the start up chime played then showed the grey apple screen, attempted to start up then went to a blue screen and now stays that way. I have attempted to change the PRAM and PMU to no avail, I also restarted in safe mode but all i got there was a different blue screen with no desktop icons.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I press the power button on my eMac, it takes extra long on the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning gif, then takes about two minutes on the blue screen with just the spinning gif, then goes to a solid blue background, with a functional cursor, but no OSX. I've tried trying to eject the CD tray at all points in the startup process to put in the Mac OSX re-install discs, but it doesn't respond. What should I try before sending it in to an Apple store or Cupertino?
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday i powered up my iBook G4, after a long time of waiting for the blue bar on the start up screen to reach the end, it became stuck once it had reached the end, i left it for a hour or so on this screen, and it hasn't got past it, i did a hardware test, and everything is fine, although it took about 8 minutes to complete the 'memory' test, so i'm thinking it could be a RAM problem ?, what do you guys think ?
EDIT: Just used disk utility and apparently there is a problem with the disk, that it can't fix, so i'm gonna have to reinstall OSX
I have had my g4 for about two years and all of a sudden the thing decided that it's not going to turn on anymore. Power is getting to the machine and a certain amount of whirring is heard but not the signature! as it starts. The screen remains blank and would stay like that all night if I let it. The only thing I did differently before this appeared was to take it to work in a different bag a few times. Rucksack before, Side bag (more vibration).
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have an ibook g4, and was using it just fine the other night, then when i came back to it a few minutes later it had shut off completely. now when i boot up, the computer freezes at the spinning gear startup screen or at the blank blue screen immediately after the spinning gear. it will boot in single user mode, but it won't boot up with my os x install disc. does anyone know any unix i could try to use to get my mac up and running again, or has anyone had this same problem and knows a fix for it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine brought over his 14" iBook G4, 1.33GHz, 60GB HDD and 1.25 GB RAM. The problem with it is that upon start-up, the grey screen with the apple/turning gear comes up, then after a few moments a blue screen will appear, though no box showing the start-up process. I've run a few basic diagnostics on this, including the lovely disk utility (which did nothing), I've run fsck, zapped the PRAM, etc, no success as of yet. At one point, I received a screen with alternating folders, one showing the smiley mac face, the other folder with a flashing "?". I cannot replicate this for the life of me. I have attempted to acquire files via TDM, though am not able to see the hard drive despite using 2 different laptops. Possibly the firewire cable itself is spent, though it's brand new! Here is where I become increasingly frustrated: I ask my friend for the boot disks as the ones for my own 12" iBook don't work (for whatever reason). He tells me that he loaded Leopard this summer (currently running 10.5.2, no updates loaded since), then proceeds to bring over boot discs for a MacBook...:headdesk: To begin with, it seemed like the HDD was fried, however, after running disk utility (and not hearing any negative sounds), it does appear that the HDD is fine. I'm thinking a kernel panic, though not sure how to resolve these.

My ibook froze a couple of days ago, so I pressed the power button to do a hard turn off and then restarted it. It hasn't made through the blue screen since. It seems to load all way and then stops at the end, but stays on the blue screen. The mouse is not frozen though, I noticed that was a problem for some people. So I've already tried a lot of the suggestions I could find. I've tried resetting the PMU,Start your computer holding the ⌘ and S key on your keyboard. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook g4. It freezes at the blue screen with the apply on it. The little circle goes around and around but nothing happens. I took it to an apple technician yesterday who told me the hard drive is toast so I should just throw it away. (Actually, he offered to take the keyboard.) When you do the fsck -fy it says that the hard drive was repaired sucessfully. Is it possible to have a hard drive that is bad and a message which says it has been repaired successfully? I don't mind having the hard drive replaced if that is what is wrong. I do not have any of the install discs any longer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had a MacBook for about four months, completely standard version, no modifications, no nothing. It's been working perfectly. I've the latest version of Leopard and any other software update that comes with. Today I've been working on setting up a new user account entitled "Work" - for obvious purposes. I've copied my regular account's home folder as well as applications and such to make "Work" as much of a copy of my regular account as possible - let's call that account "Me".
And so I've mostly been browsing around "Work" trying to give it the same access to files as "Me" has - "Me" is an administrator, "Work" is standard - by changing access and privileges. I had some problems getting "Work" to save - when I would log out and then log in again, "Work" would have lost the preferences, e.g. Stacks and Dock settings. I also couldn't change the desktop picture for whatever reason.
So then I was going to log out "Work" to see if it still had the saving problem, and it lagged behind a lot, so I did the emergency-turn-off-by-holding-down-power-button-that-you're-not-supposed-to-do thing. And then when I tried to restart, it wouldn't............

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I restart my macbook it will take me to a blue screen and the mouse pointer will be in the top left hand corner of the screen. It will not start in safe mode. I've done the "fsck -f" I don't have a the snow leopard disk any longer, but I can of course obtain another if it is the only way to fix this problem. I'm at college, the disk is at home 8 hours away..and I want on my computer now. Sorry for my lack of intelligence concerning this issue as well as the OSX as a whole, this is my first Mac and I love it!

With out thinking I held down the start button and it shut off. I figured something was wrong, so I tried to start it up. It makes the start up noise and goes to the gray load up screen... then just shuts off.
Does anyone know whats going on?

My macbook air freezes on a blue screen on startup. I can see the cursor, but nothing else happens. Before this occured, the colourful "spinning wheel" used to come up with almost every application that I ran (for instance when writing documents).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to reformat an iBook for a friend. Everything was running, but, there was no chime on boot. I logged into the machine, and was checking files and folders when it locked up. It actyally locked up while trying to run Microsoft Word. It now boots to a grey screen the the little "spinning" thing, and then, instead of going to the login screen, it just turns blue. It will NOT boot into Safe Mode, it will NOT boot to the iBook Install CD, I just get the same blue screen using both methods. I used Command-Option-P-R without success. I booted to Open Firmware and typed reset-nvram without success. I don't know what else to try. I am copying her files right now by booting into Target Disk mode, but, once I get that done, I still won't be able to boot the install disc to get the system wiped and reinstalled. What else can I do to correct this?

I have a 3 yr. Old mbp running tiger 10.4.5 and suddenly I had problems. I had leopard on her and she started having strange distortions while in safari which didn't extend to the desktop. So I did a clean install with orginal tiger disks and then I got the blue screen on start up. All hardware utilties and did fsck and all say HD is okay. Reset pram, checked battery and reinstalled ram and only able to safe boot and get into Hd but now it says no airport card installed. It's not running right to say the least. I read somewhere to check log in items in pref. Under Accout and it doesn't show any. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Also since this problem the cursor appears within a horizontally striped rectangular box like a half inch in size.
