PowerPC :: IBook G3 Not Recognizing Airport Password?

Oct 19, 2006

I have a iMac G5 with an Airport Extreme Card installed and an Airport Express Base Station. I have set a password on it and it is working fine on my G5.

I also have a G3 Clamshell iBook with OS 10.3 on it and an Airport card installed there. In my last home, it was able to connect to a default network without problem, but I have never been able to connect it to the same network as my G5. I enter the password and it says thet the password is not recognized. I have since moved into a new house and the only network that shows up is the one from my house (no default anymore and I can't get access to the internet.

I know the card is working since it picked up the default in my last place, but am wondering what I can do to get it to recognize the password. Should I reset the Airport Express. Do I need a more current version of OS X to run it than the OS 10.3 (I haven't updated the software as I just installed OS 10.3 from OS 10.2 last night and didn't have the connection to be able to do a software update - I could just plug it into the ethernet and do it if I need the update.

I don't want to leave it without a password. We are the only people right now in a new sub division but there will be people moving into the area soon that I don't want jacking my internet service.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 With AirPort Refuses Wireless Password

Jun 5, 2007

I connect two desktops and the subject ibook to an airport base station. The ibook is a 1.2MgH, 30GM hard drive, 256 RAM. The laptop has been in use approximately two years. The laptop has always automatically connected to the airport. Yesterday morning when I started the machine, it indicated it was not connected to a network. When I selected my network, it asked for the password. When I input the password, it told me it was invalid. Nothing I've been able to do with any utility or any other corrective action has changed the message "invalid password." And just so you know, I am entering the correct password for my network.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 1.42 Not Recognizing New Ram

Dec 26, 2006

I've already RMA'd the first 1gb stick back to Crucial, and now I'm on the second. Sometimes the system boots, sometimes it hangs at a blank screen until I hold the power button down long enough to turn it off. But when I CAN actually get up and running, "About This Mac" reports that I only have the onboard 512mb. System Profiler says my singular expansion slot as empty! Yes, I've tried re-seating it-- many times. To no avail. I'm also positive the module is as far into the slot as it can go. And I find it hard to believe that Crucial would send me two faulty sticks in a row. Unfortunately, due to my built-in 512mb, I can't boot off the Crucial ram alone.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Not Recognizing RAM

Jan 7, 2007

I pulled a 256mb stick out of the girlfriend's dead PC laptop and it fits in my 14" iBook G4 and when I originally put it in, "About this Mac" said I had 768mb, meaning it recognized the new RAM, now its about three weeks later and "About this Mac" says its 512mb again. So, I pulled the RAM out, put it back in, it recognized it for about a day and now its back to saying 512mb.I know when you buy RAM new, it comes with a CD(usually) to scan your computer, so is that the problem and if so, is there a download of the software online?

PowerPC :: IBook Not Recognizing USB Ports?

Aug 30, 2006

Well I have this problem on my iBook. At first I thought it was just my printer, but now I have it with my iPod. I plug anything in to the usb ports and it is connected by my ibook doesn't recognize anything I plugin. My iPod is sitting here on do not disconnect, but it doesn't show up on my desktop or in itunes. When I plug in my Epson printer and try to print, it wont connect to the printer, but the printer is on and the connection is good. They both work on any other computer in my house. I go into system profiler and when I click USB it just has the loading wheel going. That's all I get. The weird thing is that my mouse which is connected via the USB port does work.

PowerPC :: IBook G3 Dual USB Not Recognizing New RAM

I have an iBook G3 Dual USB with 256MB of RAM currently (128 on LB, and 128 in the user accessible slot under the keyboard). I bought a 512MB chip on eBay that meets the exact specs of the required RAM (512MB PC133 SDRAM SODIMM 3.3V) but when I insert it into the RAM slot and turn on the iBook, it says in About This Mac that I only have 128MB of RAM. what I can do, or is the chip possibly not compatible with Apple?

PowerPC :: Clamshell IBook Not Recognizing Battery

Jan 23, 2007

I have a 366 G3 graphite iBook that was working fine in OS9 a few months ago. I took it out of the closet yesterday and installed 10.3. I did all the updates etc., and now the computer will not recognize the battery! There is a battery icon on top, but when the light is amber on the machine (charging) it says it is calculating how long it will take to charge. Once the light is green (charged) it says there is no battery. I take out the plug and the machine turns off. On top of that, the clock has to be reset everytime I unplug the machine. I don't get it, the battery was like new back in September - it would go for hours. Now it's like it's not even there!

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Stops Recognizing RAM Slot

Initially it would intermittently not recognize the RAM that was in the 2nd slot (not the on-board ram). Now it does not recognize the 2nd RAM slot at all. I know it's not the stick, as we've put different sticks in to test.

PowerPC :: IBook Not Recognizing Charger - Not Getting Powered

Feb 3, 2009

I have an snow iBook G3 that I use everyday as my machine for doing schoolwork etc., so it is a very critical machine. The battery doesn't hold a charge anymore, so I just plug it in. No big deal. However, just a few hours ago the iBook started to not recognize it was plugged in. The prong has always been bent a bit, I think, and it always worked (before MagSafe type). The charger is beat up at the cord going into the power brick from the wall outlet, but it has always worked too and it seems to be a problem with the prong going into the computer. I have to hold it a very certain way for it to even detect power. So, the machine has NO way to get any power. I was thinking about taking it in to the Apple store to see if they could still get me a non-magsafe charger, but what if its something different then the charger?

The specs are as follows:
12 inch iBook
PowerPC G3
500 mhz
128 gb RAM

I have a Vista laptop I can use until its fixed, but I'd rather not use Windows. No speical prgrams or anything, I just really like Mac OSX. I have files on the iBook, too.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Not Recognizing IPod Previously Used On PC

Jun 16, 2009

I used this iPod (new) previously on my husbands PC. I recently purchased a refurbished iBook G4 and it works great with the exception of not recognizing my iPod! When I plug it in, it give me the error message: Disc Insertion - The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer. What does this mean? It has been a while since I've used a mac. I've tried restarting my iPod both off and on the mac with no change. I'm worried I'll lose all my music. Have also tried repairing and verifying with no results.

PowerPC :: Airport Or USB For An IBook G3?

Apr 3, 2007

So, I need wireless on my iBook G3.. Airport cards go from pretty much 55-80 USD, and are only 11mbps.. should I be worried? My connection I believe is 8mbps..

But the thing is, doesn't wireless work where just because it sends at 11mbps, doesn't mean you really get 11mbps.. With interference you could get 1mbps, compared to the potential 5 or so with 54mbps..

How is the signal strength with the original airport cards? I'm going to be pretty far away.. so want to make to sure i'm not going to disconnect and reconnect all the time..

So, the other option is USB.. most now go for about 40-50 with 54mbps.. now i've heard bad things about kernel panics, and just overall frustrations.. anyone have one that works well..

PowerPC :: Ibook 1.33 Airport Card Installation?

Jul 23, 2006

I need to reseat my Airport Extreme card and I don't know where it is or how to do it on this "mid-2005" model. Please point me to the appropriate URL that has diagrams. For some reason, the "mid 2005" g4 iBooks have a different Airport card removal and replacement procedure than the earlier models. Because, I suppose, airport cards were standard, i.e., not optional, with this model, the install process is not included in the manual. But you'd think that all I'd have to do is search the Apple site for "g4 ibook 1.33 airport card" or similar keywords and the instructions for removal and installation would be returned. Ha! and Double-Ha! Here are the official results of the above keywords:

This must be possible somehow. I cant afford an airport express right now.

PowerPC :: What To Do With Clamshell IBook (Airport Card)

Dec 28, 2006

I sort of, well, inadvertently bought an old Clamshell iBook on eBay on Christmas Day (when I'm bored, I make lowball bids on things - this was one of the rare cases where I won). The model I got is a 300 Mhz with 96 Megs of Ram - but it also has an Airport Card (which, really, was, itself, worth the price I paid for the thing - it was a really good price).

I've got an extra 256 Meg chip laying around - will the Clamshell recognize a PC133 chip? Or will it have the same problem as Lombard and only see half the memory? Also - am I better off putting, say, Panther on it, or should I do a clean install of OS 9.2? I never really used OS 9.2, what's the functionality like in terms of Airport - am I going to have trouble connecting to modern networks?

PowerPC :: IBook Airport Connects But Has No IP Address?

Jan 9, 2008

iBook G4 shows that the airport has full connectivity (full bars) yet it doesn't connect and states that there is no IP address. The iBook connects using its internal airport to a Netgear Router. There is a PC that runs windows that is connected to the cable modem. For a month or so both computers were able to access the internet simultaneously. All of a sudden the computers are unable to access the internet at the same time. When I attempt to connect at the same time my Mac gives me an error stating that another IP is in use and so I can't connect.

How can I give my iBook an IP address so that both computers can be online at the same time?

PowerPC :: Can't Get G3 IBook To Connect With AirPort Network?

May 15, 2008

I can't get our G3 iBook to connect to our AirPort network anymore. It's the last-gen AirPort Extreme base station (domey type with a modem) and I've successfully used our wireless security in the past. We use WPA/WPA2 Personal with a 40 character password. The iBook has worked before with this configuration, and it works when there is no security set up, but even though our town is filled with computer illiterates and there are only 2,000 of them, I'd like security.

PowerPC :: Airport Card Is Locking Up My IBook?

yes, I think my wireless card is locking my ibook up. I have tried this on 2 browsers, and still gets locked up. I am usually using tabs (only 2 or 3) with the window maximized. I turned it off and looked at the connection. Noticed that the cord connecting the card might be crimped, so unplugged it, re-positioned the cord so it wasn't touching the metal bracket holding the card in place, and still the issue persists.
