I just got a G5 1.8 Dual and have an S-Video connector I would like to run to my 720p tv to view my itunes movies. I am using the s-video in on my HK receiver. The picture is pretty sharp, but it is in black and white. I am running 10.5.8, and I have the same problem when I connect my MBP running 10.6. ?
No worries. A direct connect to tv solves the problem.
When I go to front row, all my video content plays sound, but the picture is just a pure white screen (shows the slider to move chapters, etc., but the screen is just white).
Any ideas for solutions? I did google searches, etc., to no avail. I have a MP (not early 08), which I upgraded the graphics card to a 2600XT, and it's running Leopard.

my video card went out on one of my G4 towers. [URL] The card that was in it was an Nvidia GeForce 2 MX and it ran Leopard 10.5.8 pretty nicely. I figured I might as well get a better card and see if it runs smoother. Can I put an Nvidia GeForce 4 MX in, or do I even want to? I want a good video card, preferably with an ADC connector as I still use my original monitor.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI've had my Dual 2.7 G5 since early 2005. It has been a great computer for me over the years. Noisy as hell, but great. A month ago my screen started to distort every now and then (see pics below). The computer would freeze when the screen distorted. Then when I would reboot, the distortion and artifacting would occur even at the grey boot up screen and lock up. With enough reboots it would finally get back to the desktop and be fine for a few days. This no longer works anymore. I haven't successfully booted the computer in over 2 weeks. After the distorted grey boot screen it will go black and all you see is the artifacts, never getting to the desktop. Is this a dead video card? I'm running the stock AGP Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT. If this is a dead video card, do you have any suggestions for the best AGP replacement. I'm looking for something powerful. All I'm finding are very pricey 256mb cards. I'm willing to pay for a powerful card.

I tried playing a full-screen HD episode of "The Office" on Hulu.com and it was extremely choppy (like 0.5fps). The sound was fine. It's still quite choppy (~2fps) in a normal browser window (not full-screen)
Is this normal? Does this video card not support it? What is the most powerful card that can be installed in this machine? I'm not opposed to buying a PC card and flashing the ROM if need-be.
I often have 720p MKV video to watch, and I was wondering whether the current generation base model MacBook White is capable of playing them. I know that the MacBook White has the 9400m GPU which should be capable of doing it, but does it work in reality? What software do you need?
View 7 Replies View RelatedEarlier this year, I finished ripping nearly every single one of my DVDs and Blu-rays (I only have a handful of the latter) so that I can play them off of my Mac Mini instead of having to load the DVD player every time I want to see a different movie.
On the Mac Mini 1.83 gHz C2D with 2gb of RAM and GMA950 graphics, I had no issues with the 480p videos in Front Row, but the high-def rips from the Blu-rays were very jerky, even though I downconverted them to 720p. I just upgraded to a 2.0 gHz C2D with 2gb of RAM and the nVidia 9400M graphics. Most of the 720p videos play well now, but a couple of them (Iron Man, particularly) are still a bit jerky in places.
Would upgrading again to a 2.26 gHz or a 2.53 gHz Mac Mini fix this issue? Do I just need more RAM? Does anyone have any advice?
Which one better handles HD video, the dedicated Intel HD or the nVidia 330M?
I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?
(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)

I have a MacBook Pro, mid-2010 with the standard-def iSight. I will not be using the iSight for the video capture. Rather, I will be using a 3rd-party USB HD webcam.
The camera works well with Skype and the like, but I would like to capture full 720p video using a standalone piece of software.
I've got a bunch of 1080p video files that I want to convert to 720 before I start working on them in iMovie. Does anyone have any suggestions for software that can do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 15" 2.4GHz unibody macbook pro with the Nvidia 9400 & 9600 GPU's. It works great, but i notice when playing 720p HD video in Quicktime X, the video is often kind of stuttery at first when i skip through the video, and sometimes beachballs. I am disappointed, because i often like to skip to certain parts in videos (especially TV Shows/Movies). It doesn't do this with smaller videos.
I only have 2GB of RAM. Do you think upgrading the RAM to atleast 4GB would help with this problem? I am on the 9600 with the "Higher Performance" option. Do you notice this at all?

I have a Powermac Dual G5 @2.0ghz, with 8gbs of ram, and 2 1tb drives running the latest version of 10.5. The problem I have is that I have 4 LCD monitors that I was using with my PC. I swapped that out with my mac, and while I am no novice, I didnt take into account that I cant just put any AGP and PCI video card into the system. What I need to know is if I can use two PCI video cards both with Dual Monitor outputs, and if so, which cards should I buy, and where? I found some video cards on ebay that are PCI, and it is quartz extreme compatible, but I am unable to use it with the AGP card already installed. The person selling the cards was unable to answer whether or not two of those cards could be used together. I only have about 75 per card to spend. Please help, I cant go on using this awesome machine with only one 19inch LCD. and I cant afford to buy new monitors

I'll start off with a screenshot.I'm specifically talking about the bar on the right hand side, that slides from the red I chose to black.Is there anyway I could have that same sliding-type bar, only sliding from red to white? Is there anyway I could have them both up at the same time? (So I'd have two different sliding bars, one going to the black and one going to the white) (Or actually, even if they could be combined... that would be sweet too. I don't want to have to count on my kids to switch every application to print in Greyscale (black and white). Where do I go to set this so that any printing they do from their account is in black and white by default? This is easy to do in Windows. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do it in OSX. This is shaping up to be a dealbreaker, unless I'm just missing something.

I have had my alum Macbook since its release, and have a personal preference issue about the black keys. Since 08 I have loved my slim IMac chicklet keyboard with the white keys, so much so that I purchased an apple bluetooth keyboard to type on for long typing excursions. I had the bluetooth keyboard right up against my Macbook and realized that the layout, size and shape of the keys were identical. I love the white keys simply for the contrast of the black letters on the white chicklets. I also hate how the keys are getting shiny black, just kinda feels cheap. I should try to swap the keys on these units? I would love the white keys on my macbook, but I am not sure if they attach the same. I don't have the backlit keys, so I wouldn't loose anything.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem
