View 2 RepliesMy brother has a second gen, 800Mhz eMac (the one that could be overclocked to 1.33Ghz - the earlier PC133 ram model). Since about 1.5 mths ago, when he powers it on, sometimes it will not power on, and other times it will give three beeps (diagnostic pages say bad RAM) and a flashing power/sleep light in unison with the beeps. Did this vintage suffer bad caps? I recall that it was only the 1.25Ghz model that had bad caps, but I could be wrong.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently acquired an eMac that was said to be working, but when I try to start it up, all I get is a beep or two, and nothing further. The machine is (I was told, I haven't been able to verify due to startup issues) OSX 10.4, 1.25 GHz. I put 256 mb RAM in, and I know that particular RAM stick works, b/c I used it successfully in my other 700 mhz eMac.
Shouldn't the machine start up without beeps once the RAM is in? I can't even get to the startup chime, so I can't do safe mode, FTM, or anything... When I push the power button, I hear the CRT firing up (but no picture displays), the fan comes on, and the white light on front comes on. After a few seconds, the machine beeps, and does nothing further... just that little white light mocking me.
have been repairing a 1.25 GHz eMac with the documented capacitor plague problem, and have managed to replace the capcitors within the logic board, however now when I attempt to boot up the eMac it gives 3 beeps and will not start, having looked up the condition I found it meant that it could detect no good RAM, so I purchased a 1GB DIMM from OWC and replaced the 2 x 512MB sticks in there previously, however the problem still persists and the machine won't boot.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend's eMac stopped booting successfully a few days ago. I thing the next step might be to reformat her hard drive ad re-install OS X, but I'm hoping there's some less drastic solution out there. I at least want to make sure I've exhausted all other options. Here's what I know: System is a G4 eMac. 1Ghz I believe (not sure). OS 10.3.9. 256MB RAM. The computer has worked flawlessly for her and her son since she acquired it several years ago. The hard disk was far from being full (around 41% used). The computer "bongs" normally, then goes on the grey screen with the Apple logo ad spinning "gears", then just sits there indefinitely. Some hard disk activity is heard at first, then silence. I started up with OS X CDs and ran DiskUtility. It reports the volume "repaired" successfully, but subsequent "verifications" still show some problems.
Started with "Option" key to see there is some bizarre startup volume selection, but as expected, the only volume shown is "Macintosh HD." Tried to start up in "safe" mode, but never saw any kind of "Safe Mode" indication. Only got as far as it ever does (grey screen, Apple logo, spinning "gears"). I started up in "verbose" mode. The last console message listed is "IP firewall loaded", and the machine just sits there. I started ip in "single user" ode, and ran 'fsck'. The result was the same as when I ran "Disk Utility." We changed the PRAM battery and reset PRAM/PMU. No effect. The computer starts up fine in "Target Disk Mode" and it looks like I can see the files on that hard disk just fine from another computer. As I said, my next step may well be reformat/install, but I want to make sure I haven't missed anything.
Ok a g3/4 emac pc, boot it up, it makes the mac noise, screen turns on, you see the apple logo, then nothing, just doesn't load or anything, it just dies. I cant seem to hear any hard drive noise, but its impossible to know for sure, nut unless I take it all to bits.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy used eMac 1.42 ghz with 2gb ram, tiger 10.4.11 began to freeze a few months ago so I cleared the hard drive and reinstalled = worked ok for a while. Now, it is regularly freezing and even locking up when it has been running for a while - when it heats up. Until it cools off a while, on restart or after shutdown, it will hang at the grey screen or display a flashing folder with an alternating finder icon and a question mark - I assume it can't find the OS. After rebooting, I got the report function with this info
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy power cord comes unplugged. my battery is 100% charged, and yet whenever the magsafe comes unplugged the whole thing shuts down. I notice the sleep light blinks rapidly a few times then when my cord goes back in things restore? Edit: My macbookpro is a Unibody which is less then 6 months old. I received it as a replacement unit from apple (due to a lemon macbookpro i originally had) Which i figured means that the battery cant be bad, i take extremely good care of my computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz and my problem happend like this:Last night I stopped playing SC2 and closed my MBP, then this morning I noticed that while it was closed, it had not gone to sleep mode, or at least that's what I thought, because it was too hot and the fans spinning hard. I openned it and showed no video, but remained on. After a 5-sec power button restart, it flashed the sleep indicator once and did nothing else, except for the HD spinned for a sec.I took the battery off and gave the computer time to cool off, because I sensed it way too hot. After I reinstalled the battery, I was able to turn it on the normal way, it worked just fine, but later I closed it again and when I openned it, it showed no video again.I repeated the process of letting it cool down, but with no effect this time. The sleep indicator turns on once and it does nothing.I tried swapping the memories, resetting the SMC, tried booting pressing control + command + r + p, tried booting without the battery, tried booting without the magsafe, nothing has worked. Now what happens when I press the power button is I hear the HD try to spin for half a second and the sleep indicator turn on once.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently received a Power Mac G5 from work. They told me I could have it, but reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS was on me. So, I took it home, and plugged it in to turn it on, and the white light on the front blinks 3 times and then stays steady... and then blinks 3 times again... and so on and so on.
The RAM that came with it was bad, so I put in 2, 1 GB PC3200 sticks in it. Isn't it a RAM problem?
My imac does not turn on, not even make the noise when booting up. The only sign of life is the blinking light that tells you is on.

My Black Macbook will not boot up. Instead it rests at the gray screen and does 3 beeps. I have done research and it is supposed to indicate a RAM problem but my RAM [i believe] is fine, I even rechecked the slots and everything. This has happened before but I just rebooted and it worked fine but now it is not. I tried plugging in my Mac into different power outlets and even having it run without being plugged in but it fails to make a difference. I have scheduled a genius appointment and I know my macbook is older than a year so i'm wondering a few things: how can I get them to replace my Macbook, how can i get them to fix the problem [for free] even if my warranty has run out, if they don't replace it [which i heard they should do] what is my best option [buying a new one is outta the question for financial reasons]

I have a 2 year old macbook that has generally worked well. About 4 days ago, I put it to sleep and didn't touch it again until yesterday so the battery had obviously been drained. I've done this before in the past and whenever I plug the charger back in, the computer starts right up, no problem. This time however, the macbook won't start up, the charger is a solid amber color for about 3 seconds before switching to a blinking green. The screen blinks black (as in I don't even hear the chime and get the gray startup screen) and the little white light in the front blinks quite rapidly. I've tried resetting the PMU several times to no avail. I've taken the ram out and tried each one individually with no changes. I checked the ram carefully as well and they don't seem fried or anything. I've tried plugging the charger in with the battery and without the battery and the result is still the same.
I have another friend here with a macbook so I'm going to test it out with her charger this weekend as well as charge my battery in her laptop and then pop it back into mine and see if it works (although this is really a last ditch attempt on my part).
Any ideas on how to fix it or what the problem is? I don't live in the States so going to a Genius Bar isn't an option.
how are we supposed to boot an emac ppc from a cd to install linux?
Shutdown my MacBook pro last night turned it on this morning and I am not getting apple chime only a blank screen and a flashing sleep light?

Just replaced the logicboard on a 01' Powerbook G4 Titanium Onyx and I'm getting the no video/beeping sound after the chimes upon power up.
3 beeps
3 lights (1 long + 3 quick flashes)
I don't THINK it's the RAM though, I thought these cards were good before the computer fried. I've swapped the two 256MB cards with each other, also plugged just one RAM card in both slots one at a time--still no turn on and I get the 3 beeps. Unfortunately I don't have any extra 144-pin 133 Mhz SDRAM chips laying around or i'd just test them. It seems unlikely that both RAM cards would be broken, in addition to the logicboard frying, unless the two events happened simultaneously. Previous install had the 667 Mhz upgraded processor and when I took the logic board out it was fried on the bottom with lots of corrosion/leakage on a good 5% of the surface area. Anyways, I replaced it with a 550 Mhz board. Could the beeping be from installing the different processor or is it more likely that I simultaneously fried both RAM chips plus the motherboard?
For some reason my iBook froze up, so I held the power button til it went off, then started it back up and now it just beeps 3 times and nothing, what is wrong with it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook G4 17 that I have been working on. I recently replaced the screen and verified that it worked prior to buttoning it back up. When buttoning the powerbook back up, I nicked two wires with screws. One was part of the LCD wire that comes from the LCD itself. The second was the airport wire that is wrapped around the screen. I wrapped them back up with a cover and preceeded to get using my comp again. Once finally put back together, I could not get it to turn on.

Besides that my Questions pertain to Leopard and Time Machine. I Know that Leopard will run on this Mac, But what about performance? and I heard that the eMacs cant experience the i candy Time Machine offers.
How So? is it true? I really want the Ability to use Time Machine. (Right now i'm just using Genie Timeline for my Windows 7 PC)

I just got a USB 2.0 emac for nothing that was going to the recycler. The door specs are: 1.25 ghz/256/40GB/Combo "About this mac" shows that it has 512mb RAM installed in one slot, and it is running 10.4.11 Anyways, it seems to be working great so far. I was able to get one stick of 256mb supported RAM from the only other 1.25 ghz machine in the lot - the rest were 700 - 800mhz emacs. Is it OK to mix the 256 with the 512? I've read many places that it is fine, but will it actually boost the speed of apps and things, or should I just leave it as is? I read somewhere that it might slow down the speed between the two RAM capacities. I don't want to spend any money to buy more RAM.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an EMac g4-255mb(just got 2 (256mb chips) never put in yet)-60gig running 10.4 (just got it) and now just got iLife 06) and then I have an 80gig external hard drive. So its like 140gig of room. But I only have a cd burner and dvd drive. Would it be cheaper to install an new internal drive? Or pay more for the external(cause there is no hard installation). What drives would work? And I have a $200 dollar gift card to bestbuy or futureshop.

Everything is standard, but it has an Airport Card in it as well which is cool
However, standard also means only 256MB of DDR3200 Memory.
Tiger is installed and everything updated.
Now I am planning to move this thing to Leopard alongside my MacBook. How much RAM shall I get for it? 512MB or 1GB? (bringing it to 768/1.25 respectively) Also what do I need to look out for brand-wise or type wise?

1.if i get the raster problem that its known for.. will the image display fine on an lcd with the mini vga cable?
2.is an emac with these specs worth $100 shipped..700mhz""512mb""40gig""keyboard""mouse""cd-rw""geforce2mx..
