So I was on my MacBook and all of a sudden the screen gets some weird lines on it and then freezes. I turn it off and turn it back on and I get a black screen and 3 short beeps and it keeps going. Well I called apple and they said it is a hardware issue. I goggled it and found it is a memory issue (maybe).

My Macbook Pro mid 2009 beeps three times after having change the ram from 2x2(4 Gigs) to 2x4(8Gigs) of RAM. Both new RAM modules do not work either together or by themselves. They do however work with an old RAM module, originally to have been found in my MacBook. What I need to do to make both new RAM modules work?!

Just replaced the logicboard on a 01' Powerbook G4 Titanium Onyx and I'm getting the no video/beeping sound after the chimes upon power up.
3 beeps
3 lights (1 long + 3 quick flashes)
I don't THINK it's the RAM though, I thought these cards were good before the computer fried. I've swapped the two 256MB cards with each other, also plugged just one RAM card in both slots one at a time--still no turn on and I get the 3 beeps. Unfortunately I don't have any extra 144-pin 133 Mhz SDRAM chips laying around or i'd just test them. It seems unlikely that both RAM cards would be broken, in addition to the logicboard frying, unless the two events happened simultaneously. Previous install had the 667 Mhz upgraded processor and when I took the logic board out it was fried on the bottom with lots of corrosion/leakage on a good 5% of the surface area. Anyways, I replaced it with a 550 Mhz board. Could the beeping be from installing the different processor or is it more likely that I simultaneously fried both RAM chips plus the motherboard?
I recently acquired an eMac that was said to be working, but when I try to start it up, all I get is a beep or two, and nothing further. The machine is (I was told, I haven't been able to verify due to startup issues) OSX 10.4, 1.25 GHz. I put 256 mb RAM in, and I know that particular RAM stick works, b/c I used it successfully in my other 700 mhz eMac.
Shouldn't the machine start up without beeps once the RAM is in? I can't even get to the startup chime, so I can't do safe mode, FTM, or anything... When I push the power button, I hear the CRT firing up (but no picture displays), the fan comes on, and the white light on front comes on. After a few seconds, the machine beeps, and does nothing further... just that little white light mocking me.
I have a Powerbook G4 17 that I have been working on. I recently replaced the screen and verified that it worked prior to buttoning it back up. When buttoning the powerbook back up, I nicked two wires with screws. One was part of the LCD wire that comes from the LCD itself. The second was the airport wire that is wrapped around the screen. I wrapped them back up with a cover and preceeded to get using my comp again. Once finally put back together, I could not get it to turn on.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhave been repairing a 1.25 GHz eMac with the documented capacitor plague problem, and have managed to replace the capcitors within the logic board, however now when I attempt to boot up the eMac it gives 3 beeps and will not start, having looked up the condition I found it meant that it could detect no good RAM, so I purchased a 1GB DIMM from OWC and replaced the 2 x 512MB sticks in there previously, however the problem still persists and the machine won't boot.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy brother has a second gen, 800Mhz eMac (the one that could be overclocked to 1.33Ghz - the earlier PC133 ram model). Since about 1.5 mths ago, when he powers it on, sometimes it will not power on, and other times it will give three beeps (diagnostic pages say bad RAM) and a flashing power/sleep light in unison with the beeps. Did this vintage suffer bad caps? I recall that it was only the 1.25Ghz model that had bad caps, but I could be wrong.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
The computer I am having problems with is a Mac Dual 2.7 Ghz Power PC G5 with 3.75 GB DDR SDRAM. Moved premises at start of year - had to have a new ethernet adapter card fitted but no problems for about 4 months. Then it started having Kernel Panics. It got to the stage where at one time it was 3 to 4 times a day. Took it to a local repair shop who put it on test but said they couldn't find a problem. Within 10 minutes of my switching it on it went again. They changed a memory board. Still no change. Changed Ethernet adapter card. Still no change. I have a print out of the latest system & console logs I can email if that will help an expert.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^
Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.
I have posted a question on the Apple site, I would like to get some input from the people here as well.I wont bother typing out the whole thing, much simpler to let you go have a quick read at the questions and solutions I have tried.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a G3 iBook (900 MHz, 640 MB RAM, Combodrive, 40 GB HDD). I'm looking at a G4 iBook (1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Superdrive, 60 GB HDD).
How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. I have the tiger family pack, so I have a license for it. It only has a CD-ROM drive, so I am wondering if I can buy a 40 GB HD, and clone the one from my G4 onto it.

I got a Powerbook 190 from my grandfather. He didn't give me the cord to plug it in with. He gave me the cord that has the big box, that connects to the computer. It was missing the cord that goes from the box to the wall. I read that it said to ONLY use an apple cord.My step dad said "that's not how electricity works." and gave me a regular, random computer cord. I was unsure, but plugged him in anyway.
He worked perfectly for one night. No problem at all. Booted up right away. I played on him for a few hours. It was time to go to bed.
He hasn't woken up since. He's made the start up sound a few times, but never starts up. I've pushed the reset button on the back a thousand times. At least what I THINK is the reset button. They just say under the video out port, but I don't know what that looks like. What I'm pressing is a small, very flat, wide (but still very small) rectangle of a button. Nothing. I've held it down for 40 seconds, 4 or 5 times. I've taken the battery out, and then held the reset button. Nothing. I've tried everything I know to do, for about a month now.
I left him alone for a few weeks. I plugged him in today, and it made the start up sound, and then nothing.
Can I save him? How? Should I try an apple-specific computer cord? Do I need a new battery? If I did, wouldn't it start up with the battery out, but still plugged into the wall? Fried motherboard?
I even found a freaking airport card that'll work with it, and an external floppy disk for my new mac, so I can transfer files from one to the other. I was so excited about him. And my dreams were crushed.
So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt just came to my mind that at some storage place of mine, I have an old special edition (grey) iBook that i bought in 1999, if I remember correctly. Can't look it up right now, but I think it had one USB port, one ethernet port, a CD-ROM drive, and it was running OS9.
Is anyone of you still using old iBooks, and what for? Would a version (which?) of OS X run, or would you suggest staying with OS9? Kind of sad to have it just laying around - it was amazing, back in the days.
