Dec 20, 2010Does anyone know if I can increase the track speed of a Magic Mouse any other way the the mouse settings page because even on the "Fast" tracking setting it feels brutally slow to me.

Feb 15, 2008Anyone else notice a 1000rpm CPU fan speed increase on their G5 after the last round of system updates? My CPU's used to idle at ~120*f with a fan speed of 500rpm. After the 10.5.2 update they idle at ~89*f and 1500rpm. There is no perceptible noise change and I didn't even notice the change until I saw the cold CPU temperatures. I'm not worried about it, I'm just wondering if I'm alone or this is one of the system level .2 changes not massively publicized.

Jan 15, 2010I have a base model June 09 13" Macbook Pro running 10.6.2, during normal use CPU temp. is fine, lower than my previous Macbook 07 edition. However, when I use handbrake, the temp spikes very quickly, I know this is normal as the processsors are being used at 100%. However, unlike my old Macbook, the fan takes a long time to spin up to counter the increase in CPU temp. I see 101 degrees centigrade and the fans are still at 2000rpm. After a few minutes they react and slowly increase to maximum. I am not comfortable with this temp, my old Macbok used to only get to 85 degrees centigrade. I have read about SMC fan control, is there a way to set this so that it increases the fan speed at lower temps without having a detrimental effect on battery life.

Feb 14, 2009I have an Apple Imac running OSX 10.4.11.I recently signed up to a satellite internet service and the speed and reliability are very poor.
It seems to take forever to download a website. When I use Google with Firefox, more often than not I get a blank screen. If I hit the reload button the page may or may not load. The ISP tech support point the finger at Apple; Apple support points the finger at the ISP.
The ISP tech support guy who installed the satellite service knew nothing about Apples but the service seemed to work fine when he tried his PC laptop.
MacBook Pro :: Will 16GB Of RAM Really Increase Speed
May 13, 2012I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM installed - I bought the Corsair memory from Amazon for under $50 and installed it myself. Amazon now has a 16GB kit fro Corsair for only $100 - the least expensive price I've found. The only RAM intensive app I really run is Photoshop CS6,but I do keep a lot of apps open at one time (Acrobat Pro X, Outlook, InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Word, Parallels running XP, iTunes at the moment) and I was wondering if the extra RAM would actually help me out. I'm looking for some advice from people who have already upgraded to 16 GB... can you actually tell a difference?

With that, she can't really view a video - let's say from Youtube. It just keeps hanging. She only has 256mg of RAM which can be boosted to 1G, and I was wondering if by doing so, it would have a significant impact on her Emac capacity to view such content.

Apr 28, 2012If I click on a icon then i have to wait several seconds until i can klick again to rename (that takes also several seconds until i can rename it) it or something else. since some days my trackpad always wants to open the file if i click on it. the other mysterious thing is, when I plug in an usb-mouse (not magic mouse) and click on a link in the safari app with the middle-button of the mouse, my macbook air opens the link in a new tab twice, instead of one single time. if there somewhere is an option to reset all the option of the input devices?

Aug 31, 2009Strange as it may seem, when I installed Snow Leopard, I immediately freed almost 40 gig on my Macbook pro (can't imagine why) and speed was increased by a factor of 2-3 times. One more thing is that parallels is now "almost" as fast as a native program, especially with Quicken for windows, which is the only reason that I use parallels.

Jun 26, 2010I rarely run Boot Camp but whenever I'm using Boot Camp on my 13" MBP [Summer 2009 model] it really heats up a lot. I generally use IE8 or Google Chrome, & the Zune software. Not much besides that to be honest, occasionally I used MediaMonkey as well.
Anyway, point is for some reason - regardless of programs running - the notebook appears to be getting extremely hot.
I want to increase the fan speed while in Boot Camp so it doesn't run so hot. Any ideas/recommendations as to do doing this?
In OS X [10.6] it works perfectly fine so definitely something related to Windows drivers but increasing the fan speed should remedy, no?

Oct 27, 2007I have a Power Mac 2.3Ghz (see spec in sig) with the standard 250GB Maxtor 6B25050 hard drive. I was wondering, how I could increase the speed of the computer? If I upgrade the hard drive to something like a Western Digital Raptor X 150GB 10kRPM SATA drive would this provide any performance increase over the standard disk? Memory-wise I never have any "page outs", so I understand that a memory upgrade will not increase the speed of my computer.

I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

Apr 10, 2009I have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.
