MacBook Pro :: Apple Replace Power Adapter?

Dec 26, 2009

I've had the computer for over a year. It is currently insured with the Applecare. It seems like the adapter's cord is starting to show some normal wear-and-tear. It still works (i.e., still charging my computer), but I'm afraid that it will either rip or cause a short sometime. I've never dinged the charger. It just seems like the coiling made it come apart. See the picture below. Will Apple replace this under the warranty, or will I have to rake out $80 for a new one if this one gives way? image: [URL] I just got off the phone with an Apple rep, and he will be shipping me a new adapter. I'll just have to send him back the damaged one.

PowerPC :: Video - Replace Power Supply Burned Out?

Feb 21, 2006

I have a first gen imac g5 (bought it in dec. 2004). So far I've had three major problems with it:

1. After 6 months of use, the power supply burned out and had to be replaced.
2. 3 months later the well known video problems due to faulty capacitors appeared. The midplane board was replaced.
3. I was out of the country for 6 months; after the midplane board was replaced in August my imac was sitting unused. Booted it up yesterday and the computer would just hang. Took it to the genius bar at the apple store today and was told the logic board has to be replaced. Luckily, though the computer is out of warranty, Apple has extended the warranty for this specific problem.

At this point, I am very frustrated. I am going to call Apple and request that they replace my imac with a new one. It is obvious reading the posts here and Apple's boards (btw, before Apple's board monitors started censoring and delting posts that address these problems - my post on the Apple board yesterday was deleted by the monitors) that many users have had lemons with the first gen imac g5. I consider three major problems in less than a year to be symptomatic of a "lemon". If Apple doesn't replace lemon imac g5's what are the alternatives...I wonder if they would buckle if enough people threaten a class action lawsuit. Something must be done to alert the general public about this problem.

Hardware :: Replace Power Cord (Aluminum Cinema Display)

Jun 14, 2009

So my dad is going to get one of the new LED displays soon, since his old aluminum one is out of warranty and needs a new power cord (I guess several years of rubbing against the corner of the desk has made it begin to fray - I haven't seen it yet, though, so I don't know how bad it is). Anyways, he says if I can fix it, it's mine. So I was just wondering how hard it is to replace the cord? This is the one that comes directly out of the back of the display and plugs into the power supply.

Mac Pro :: Best Way To Replace Boot Drive?

Aug 21, 2008

Over the last half hour or so, I've heard a couple intermittent click type sounds coming from my Mac Pro, when this happens, the apps I'm accessing start beach balling for maybe 10 seconds or so and then finally go back to normal. It certainly sounds like a hard drive noise, and the fact that it causes my apps to freeze up leads me to believe it's my boot drive (I have the standard 250GB drive that came with the system as my boot drive with all my apps installed, and then I have two 1TB drives in a mirrored RAID for my home directory)

The SMART status on all 3 drives check out fine, so I don't know of a decent way to pinpoint for sure which drive it is, but I want to nip this in the bud. Does anyone have any suggestions on if I can do anything else to check? It's only happened twice so far and it's been a while since the last time it happened, but I don't want to wait until it's too late. Also, what's the best way to replace my boot drive without having to do a reinstall of the OS? I've never had to do this before on a Mac...

MacBook Air :: Will It Be To Replace SSD Drive To 256 GB

Nov 16, 2008

I read news that Samsung is already coming out with 256 GB SSD drives. I'm imagining that Apple will start putting those into the Air mid next year, and wonder what are my chances of being able to replace the 128 GB SSD drive (this is assuming I purchase an Air in the next few weeks) myself when the new ones come out? I remember there have been some threads related to swapping drives on this forum in the past, but none dedicated to those new 256 GB SSD drives, as far as I can tell.

MacBook :: How To Replace Hard Drive

I got the flashing file folder a few days ago. Tried to reinstall my software but no disk for install showing. Tech said hard drive is shot and won't power up. So while I mourn the loss of my MacBook but most importantly ALL my stuff (no, I did not have a backup like I know I should've), is replacing the hard drive something I can do myself? And, how do I know what hard drive i can put in since I was running out of disk space anyways and would like more..

I plan on replacing my Boot Camp Drive (not partition, separate drive) in my Mac Pro (320GB with Vista 64, NTFS) with a 750 GB drive.

How do I do this? Do I put in the new drive and clone the Boot Camp partition using Disk Utility, and then take the 320gb out of it's slot and put in the 750gb, and Vista will boot fine? Is there anything special I need to do?

Or am I going to have to re-setup everything and reinstall windows?

MacBook Pro :: Replace Hard Drive On A Mid 2012?

Jun 18, 2012

I just bought a new MacBook Pro. I had a 2010 MBP and kept the hard drive (Hitachi 500gb 7200 rpm) from that computer. It ws running 10.7 and worked fine. It still boots up perfectly on my MacPro so I know it works.

I tried to boot the new MacBook Pro using the old drive but I get a circle with a line through it. I have tried to boot using Firewire and even installed it into the new MacBook Pro. I then tried to re-install OS 10.7. I just downloaded it from the App Store for my MacPro so I tried to use it to re-install. It will not work on this new Macbook Pro. I had to download a version specific to this computer (using the "recover" disk). I takes 1.5 hours to download and then it still didn't work. When the computer reboots after the download and restarts I get the same **** circle with a line through it. The new "manual" is a joke. There is no reference to upgrading drives or memory. Did Apple decide to make their new laptops inaccessible to the owner? I can't find any info online and at the Apple store today they told me they knew of no reason that the drive wouldn't work.

MacBook Pro :: Internal Hard Drive Died - Replace?

After 4 years of brave use, the internal HD on my Macbook Pro has died. I'm now looking for a new one to install it myself. It's a first generation Macbook Pro (1.83Ghz - A1150). From a first google search I found this option a pretty decent one: [URL:...] Any feedback on this particular item? Is the site reliable? Also, regarding the installation of the drive itsef: I've seen some guides on how to install it and they seem a little hard to accomplish. My experience with this kind of procedure so far is related to installing ram, which seems to be really easier. Is this something that a non-experienced user can install or shall I think twice before doing such adventures myself?

MacBook Pro :: 3 Beeps When Attempting To Replace Hard Drive?

Apr 25, 2012

I recently purchased a Patriot 16GB RAM upgrade (yes, spare me the Apple "Limited to 8GB" speech), and a new Seagate Hybrid drive because I'm out of space on my old one. I installed the 16GB RAM in my MBPro 15" (Early 2011...running 10.7.3) with no issue last night, and it was running fine and quite zippy.  After Time-Machining, I replaced the hard drive today, and tried to boot from a backup Lion disc (to format the new HDD and restore from Time-Machine) to no avail.  Then, when I switched to a Snow Leopard disc, I started to receive 3 Beeps...the infamous RAM beeps.  I figured that the RAM that I was sent was bad, so I switched to my previous OWC 8GB set to the same result. The issue I'm having is that I took the Snow Leopard disc out, replaced the new hard drive with my old one, and viola everything is working perfectly.  I'm even posting this on the same computer.
