MacBook :: Cannot Copy And Paste Using Keyboard Shortcuts?
My Macbook wont copy and paste anymore using the keyboard shortcuts or the menu options. When I go to copy something that is fine but when I paste it no matter how many characters I have pasted I get a one star character. For example if I copied this text. This is what I get below when I paste it. I don't think that i changed anything in my settings. My Macbook is only a little over a month old 2.4ghz 4 gigs ram OS 10.5.4.

MacBook Air :: Cannot Use Copy Paste Shortcuts?
I'm new in Lion. Why I can't use the copy and paste short cut if I use it from and to different application, for example from safari to Mac Office Word, from Word to dictionary. However it work if I copied it using the Edit menu and then copy it at the other application by using the Edit menu again. Info: MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Safari, MacOffice, dictionary

Snow Leopard :: Copy And Paste Shortcuts Not Working In Mail Editor?
The copy and paste shortcuts Command-C and Command-V do not work for me in the Mail editor (and other applications). Is this the way it should work or have I messed up some preference settings somewhere? Instead I have to use the right-mouse click menus to Copy and Paste. OS X :: Keyboard Shortcuts Stopped Working / Unable To Cut Paste From Mail Message
Everthing's been fine since I first setup my Mac Mini over a year ago....2 or 3 days ago I noticed when I tried to do a cut/paste from a mail message to a field (using Cmd-C Cmd-V) in a web page, it didn't work. It's alsways worked before but I chalked it up to the web form not taking "pasted" input. But then I tried from a text document to an email...same story. I highlight text with the mouse, do Cmd-C and get a "bong" sound, then go to where I want to paste, do a Cmd-V and nothing gets pasted. I take it the "bong" means some sort of error or invalid input occured? I restarted the Mini and it worked for a while (at least when I tried it right after logging in). Then yesterday I had to restart my Mini again and the shortcuts aren't working again. If I highlight text and then right-click the mouse and select copy, then move to where I want to paste and right-click and select paste it works fine....just the keyboard shortcuts don't work. I checked the sytem prefs, keyboard pane and saw nothing out of the ordinary.....any ideas out there?

OS X :: How Do I Copy And Paste Using A PC Keyboard?
My mom bought this mac G4 from a guy and he didn't include a keyboard, so i've been using one of the keyboards we use for our PCs. On a PC simply holding down ctrl + C will copy and holding ctrl + V will paste. I can't do that with a mac. Is there anyway to copy and paste on this mac? I don't know if it's important or not but this mac is considered "vintage" as the guy at the mac store called it, meaning they cant get parts for it and we have to get a Tiger disk to upgrade it any.

OS X Tiger :: Converting Mac Keyboard Shortcuts To Windows/PC Based Shortcuts?
Let me say, I have been using Mac based platforms since close to 1991 on and off. I used System 7 (and OS 8/9, but close enough to System 7) for many years up until I started to use Windows starting on the later 9x and XP platforms. As I start to drift away from Windows to more likely use Macs, however I would like to have a consistent keyboard shortcut system similar to Windows or Linux/UNIX (for that matter). I actually get confused very easily switching from Macs and Windows with keyboard commands often when I use Windows comp and when I am using the Mac. (Just switching from different kinds of keyboards confuse me from the razor thin keys to a regular keyboard, because going from another one confuses me because of different pressures to press the on.) I also believe this may have to do with a "workflow" process/scripting, if I am not mistaken. Is there a script I can download, that has close to the standard Windows/PC commands that I can import into the Mac, and can these scripts be edited to adapt my own commands as well? Is there a way to use most of the function keys (F1-12) for the standard commands for the different purposes? I also would like the Option (alt)-Tab to cycle the different apps and Option-Esc to cycle all windows opened. I would like to try to reduce all Option/Command/Control/Shift commands to just a couple of keystrokes or an F key. These modifier keys I think are becoming old, especially since it doesn't meet Apple's simplicity, giving there is up to three keystrokes to press at a given time for some commands. I had tried the way on the System Preferences, but it doesn't go globally through all applications - real problem lies on the Apple apps on some. I strongly believe this is possible to do, since it might be able to work via a scripting system. I hope this could work. Apple has come a long way to open up the system's architecture without really messing things up, or just opening up the OS without hex apps is great. I hope they can just keep this up so the users can decide how they want their mac to work, because they know what's right for their purposes. MacBook Pro :: Copy / Paste Not Working When Touching Trackpad?
When I want to copy and paste text in a document I select the text with my trackpad. Because I have to do it repetitive and quickly I use the apple c button while my finger is on the trackpad. I discovered it is not possible to have your finger on the trackpad and press the apple c button at the same time. It will not copy anything. A successful copy/paste action is only possible when your fingers are not at the trackpad. I then it goes slow and if you go to fast there is a great chance that the copy/paste action fails. Does anyone knows a solution for this? Information: Macbook Pro (newest model: late 2008/begin 2009) Mac OS X (10.5.6)

MacBook Pro :: Can't Copy And Paste Or Drag And Drop
I've recently had memory issues (the mac, not me!) and had to get rid of a load of stuff as the memory was full. I've currently got 1GB free and want to transfer some downloaded heavy TV files onto a USB stick to free up the HD, but I have lost the ability to D & D and C & P. This goes for moving documents into folders, everything. P.S. Have got external HD coming but what good is that if I can't transfer anything? Information: Macbook pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

MacBook Pro :: Can't Copy And Paste Files Between The Two Partitions?
I am loving my new MBP to death but still grinding my teeth about some of the transitions to the Mac world... Two questions - I can click on my Bootcamp partition and see the files - why can't I copy and paste files between the two partitions? How do people do this? I am running OS X and Windows 7 in either partition - both 64 bit. Ok - simple file management here that is driving me crazy... Copying a big directory as an over-write to another directory - and it gives me the "do you want to replace this directory" message... I click no - and am amazed to discover that anything new in that directory is NOT copied over. Is there any way - other than just replacing EVERYTHING - to copy a directory over when you just want to add every new file no matter what directory it is in ??? This would be a non-issue in Win 7

MacBook :: Changing Wireless Keyboard Shortcuts Functions
I spilled alcohol on macbook keyboard, so I bought and just received a wireless keyboard which I paired with my computer, but the shortcuts at the top of my keyboard aren't doing what they should be doing. I went into system preferences and was able to change it so I can change the brightness, but from F7 to F12, where you are suppose to be able to change the song, play/pause, mute and turn the volume up and down, it does other things. I've tried adding an application to my keyboard shortcuts, added iTunes and then wrote "Volume Up" and set it to F12, and "Volume Down" and set it to F11, but it didn't work. Is there certain words I have to put for it to work?

MacBook Pro :: Expose - Spotlight - Spaces Not Responding To Keyboard Shortcuts
I glanced over the forums but didn't find any similar issues. Basically, Expose, Spotlight and spaces won't respond to any keyboard shortcuts (ie. Pressing F12 doesn't bring up the Dashboard, pressing Fn+F8, F9, F10 doesn't work, F11 won't hide all the windows, Command+Space bar won't invoke the Spotlight search bar, etc). what's really interesting about it is, all of these features are apparently working correctly (ie. Clicking directly on the Spotlight icon will bring up the search bar, using an active corner will perform its Expose function, etc).

MacBook Pro :: After Update Keyboard Shortcuts For Volume Control Not Working
I recently ran an update for my Macbook Pro. After the update, the volume keyboard shortcut does not work. I have the setting for the function keys to work like normal function keys so I have to press the fn key to change the volume. This does not work and changing the setting does not work. I cannot add a shortcut either. Whenever I push the shortcut, I get a grayed out screen with a symbol showing that I cannot change the volume. I can still make changes by clicking on the volume symbol at the top of my screen but I really need the shortcut back.

MacBook Pro :: JollysFastVnc, PASTE In VNC With ANSI Keyboard?
I have an ANSI (HP-RK713A) keyboard connected to my Mac. (I like the layout, the keys are big and I make fewer typing mistakes with it.) It has an "Fn" key, but it not mapped like the Mac "Fn"key. To PASTE in my VNC viewer window (to a xterm) (JollysFastVNC) I use the MAC "Fn"+Click to do the paste. That doesn't work on with the ANSI keyboard and I cannot find any combination of the 4 modifier keys (or pairs of them) which will accomplish a PASTE. I also tried all the funct keys and Ctrl, Shift, Alt versions as well. Does anyone know how to get this ANSI keyboard to do a "paste" like a Fn+Click on a MAC keyboard?Â

OS X :: Copy (and Paste) Does Not Work?
I have had my 15" macbook pro for about 6 months now. Amazing labtop... Now i have learned almost all of the keyboard shortcuts and use them very frequently. The main ones I use are obviously + C followed by + V . However, recently my + C refuses to work! To copy something I have to manually go into the edit menu and select copy. Yet, all of my other keyboard shortcuts, including + V continue to work! I don't understand. How do I fix this? Keep in mind, this has been going on for about a week so the computer has been turned on and off many times.

OS X :: Using Copy/Paste Functions
My question is about the copy and paste functionality of the Mac while using Safari. For some work I do, I need to copy and paste website content to word documents (for example, in PC, I would select all, copy, and paste into Word). I can do the same thing with Safari and Pages, yet when I am on a site with drop-down menus and have selected the item from the menu and try 'select all, copy and paste' with Safari & Pages, it copies ALL drop down menu options. I only want it to copy the one I've selected. Also, this site allows me to enter free-form text in text boxes, but the select all/copy/paste doesnt pick up the text I've entered either.

OS X :: Copy And Paste Without Formatting
Just a real stupid question. Is there a generic way to copy and paste between applications without copying the formatting? If I copy from a website in safari to Excel (for example). The cells in Excel will be formatted exactly the same as on the website including different fonts, and sizes. But often I just want the text, not the formatting. Is there an easy way to do this?
