I store various frequently used items on my desktop. If I have many windows open, I would like to be able to click on my desktop and all the windows/apps, etc be moved out of the way. I assume this is an easy fix, but I can't figure out how to set it up.

If you're using SSD as boot drive what's your setup? Did you moved your user directory? Or maybe you just moved your Mail folders? Or perhaps you made no changes.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to re-partition (i removed the first one so i could make it bigger). When i try and make a 100gb partition through bootcamp, after working for an hour, it says this:

I have tried to install windows on my mac and bootcamp says files can't be moved, I haven't got a problem with reinstalling my mac provided someone can tell me if it's possible using a backup from time machine and the process needed please. I've no idea whether it will work and I want to be 99.99999% sure before I do anything as I have important work on my mac which I can't afford to loose.

However, when I tried to partition the disk (32 GB on Windows), a message came up, saying "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It states some directions underneath, but, as I am new to Boot Camp and Mac, I don't know what to do and how to do. Please help!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently updated by 2013 27" iMac to OS X 10.9.3 and since then, I have a weird problem when I switch from one user to another: I often have several user sessions opened for several account, and when I switch from one to the other, or go to the login screen and open an already open session, I find the windows I had left open resized and/or moved. They're often moved to the upper left corner, and resized as if the screen was much smaller than it actually is. It worked without any problem in OS X 10.9.2…

I tried to organize my Applications a little better, and created a sub called iLife '09. Moved my iPhoto there, and it runs just fine, but Software Update totally missed the 8.1 update and even manually downloaded I couldn't get it to update till I moved it back to the Applications root. So are we basically stuck with leaving things where they are or moving them around to get updated and back again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Finder is now in my Pictures folder and won't run at all. All I can see is the finder menubar, but it's not active. I've tried using Quicksilver to move it back into the Applications folder, but it gives me an error each time. I've also tried opening the Pictures folder in terminal like this: open ~/Pictures/ but it obviously can't open until I move the Finder app.

I have several hundred word processing files I prepared in MS WORD. I moved the folders containing this files from my old computer to my new iMac. Every time I try to open one of these files, I see a box on the screen saying the file cannot be opened.
This is true when I try to use MS WORD for mac, when I try Pages, and when I try other word processors.
I suspect some sort of permissions need to be set for the folders or the files. I hope it can be done in "bulk"
Because of hard disk space issues I've moved all my iTunes libraries (I'm using Libra for making several libraries and selecting them) over to a bigger external hard drive. However, iTunes still thinks my music is on the "old" drive. I could of course just give the "new" drive the same name as the "old" one, but I'd rather not. So is there a way I can modify an iTunes library with a new file path? The library structure and everything is the same. It's just on a differently named hard drive now.

Then I went into preferences and changed the iTunes Media Folder Location, and I also have Keep iTunes music folder organized. That worked fine all of the music, movies and TV shows opened up fine. Than after adding a new HDD to my drobo I opened my iTunes and all of a sudden it gives me the ! next to all my files and wants me to locate them, and the folder is still the same in the folder location. Is there anyway to fix this, or to automatically reconnect all my media instead of doing it 1 by 1.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi had my entire iTunes library, about 150GB of music files, stored on an external hard drive that was starting act wonky. so i bought a new hard drive and copied all the music folders onto that new hard drive. but now iTunes doesn't recognize all those files in the new location. how do i reconnect my iTunes library to this new hard drive?
unfortunately, i've already deleted the old music files from the old hard drive so hopefully i don't need to do something with that.
Yesterday when I wanted to boot Vista Ultimate 32-Bits on my 20" iMac (late 2006 model) it only gave me BSODs at startup and then rebooted my computer automatically. I tought: OK, let's just erase Windows. So I fired up Boot Camp-assistent and deleted the Windows partition. Today, I wanted to reinstall Windows Vista again, but when I tried to partition my drive with bootcamp, it gave me the error saying that my harddrive could not be partitioned because some files can't be moved. It says I'll have to format my hardrive to 1 partition using the Drive Utility. But I'm very afraid I do something wrong and that Mac OS can't boot anymore. I also don't have a drive to store a back-up of all my files on. Can I just ignore this screen and if I do, will I be able to start Mac OS X normally? I DO NOT want to install Windows after this anymore, guess I will buy a PC for games in a while or go to my friend's house to play Crysis and such.

I've been told it usually comes about by pressing/holding the "delete" key whilst windows is loading. However, I can't seem to get it to appear on the Macbook pro whilst I load. I need to disable hyperthreading in the BIOS to get something to work, and this seems to be the way to do it.

I currently own a Macbook I purchased in January 2009. A few days ago I installed Boot Camp Agent so I could use it to play certain games I could not run using Parallels. I downloaded Boot Camp following the directions it comes with. (Installed Windows XP Pro, then installed Mac OSX Leopard 10.5). Everything works fine except I cannot figure out how to use the wireless network established in my home.
On the Mac side, I can connect to the internet with the Airport fine, never have a problem on that side. When switched to the Windows side I have no wireless options. Though I can use the internet when using an ethernet cable connected directly to my router (Linksys WRT110). I have read soo many forum posts and nothing I have read has helped so far. When I go to Network Connections and Properties, I do not have a Wireless Network Connection tab.
I've just installed XP on my Macbook Pro (No BootCamp, just Windows XP), and I'm currently trying to figure out how to set up my network connection. I'm assuming that I will need to install drivers?

Is there anyway to make it always boot to the startup manager. Then maybe after 30 seconds or so it would default to os x. I'm constantly having to switch between OS's and it would be nice if I could make it so that it would auto pop up startup manager rather an me have to hold down the option key every time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Satallite dish system and two routers. I have router B plugged into Router A. Router b Everything is disabled, DNS, Gateway, **** like that, including DHCP. Router A has DHCP enabled, MAC Address Filtering, and DNS and Gateways for the dish system entered. I'm running this setup for my little out post in Iraq. The dish is plugged into the "uplink" port in back of the router, Both Linksys, btw. So I've got 30 people or so on this router, and some one, i fear is passing alot of crap and hogging all the network bandwidth. I suspect SpyWare/Adware of Virus problem on one or two machines. Is there anyway to setup my Mac or a Windows Machine to accept all the data through a network card, and then pass that data up to the satallite dish? I just need to see who's sending all this data and the Linksys logs are crap.

I got a error that said i needed to restore my system, i do not have a external hard drive and i couldn't do that. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed XP with bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. The big problem I'm having is that the internal speakers on my computer don't have sound coming out of them. (When I'm on windows) The volume control on my keyboard doesn't do anything, either. When I go to find my sound control, to make sure it's not muted or anything, I find that I can't even edit the sound controls. It says I don't have a device that can output sound, even though my internal speakers work fine on my mac desktop. It can't seem to find my internal speakers, when I try setting up a new device. I'm having a lot of trouble setting up internet on the XP as well, I just don't understand how to do it. (I've used mac all my life, I am really new to windows.) Basically, I have a wireless internet connection, I've got the router downstairs, and the information is handy. But I just don't know how to set it up, and I don't know what type of internet connection I want.

When I run Airport Utility, I can see the base station in the left panel, but both options to either run manual setup or "easy" setup give me the same error. Says that it cannot connect to the airport, error -4. Tried everything I could think of including multiple re-installs, wireless and wired, and disabling firewalls/antivirus.
