Firs off all, sorry for bad english . Is there how-to or somethink for volume resize? what I need: My mac have 1 volume and there is running mac os x leopard on it. I wanth create more one volume without deleting operating system. is there a way to resize my current volume?
View 1 RepliesTrying to resize and existing volume using disk utility on Leopard. Have a 1TB internal Drive with 1 Partition (extended Journal), not a boot drive this is just for data, now want to add another partition (2 Volumes), in effect shrinking the size of the original so I have 2 equal sizes.
So Far I have used 450GB, so there should be enough room to do this right? Although when I go through the process, I get the message 'not enough space on drive'.
It will look also in other volumes I have. What is the right way to search only the current volume? I came up with this:find /Volumes/Lion/ -name foo which will return a result like /Volumes/Lion//foo.Is this the right way to do this with the result containing double slashes?

Is there a way to detect the current volume level using a similar command and a way to assign it to a variable? And just for good measure, are there similar commands for detecting and setting the current balance?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
View 6 Replies View Related I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :
"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"
So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this- it is a pita to adjust separate volume controls on everything. If I adjust the volume on the keyboard, the volume slider in itunes doe snot move. If I set the volume on itunes with a mouse, then come home and use the volume controls on my keyboard, I have to also manually adjust the slider in itunes. Anyway to link the two?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to increase the volume of my bootcamp disk, which I had done in the past using a method which ultimately made the disk unrecognizable. This time around I used Winclone to create an image of my bootcamp disk. I was not sure exactly how Winclone worked and to be safe I decided to keep the Bootcamp disk I had, and I created a third partition of a larger volume to which I restored the bootcamp image. Everything worked fine obviously, and the image was restored correctly to the new larger volume. The dilemma is I had two bootcamp disks, so I erased the smaller volume because I no longer needed it. Currently I am trying to restore this empty space within the main disk to the Macintosh HD. Disk util looks like:
I know I can just create a backup of the macintosh HD, another image of the bootcamp disk, and format the disk and start over, but I am hoping there is an easier way to go about this; considering there has been a method engineered such that I can just drag that corner of the mac HD and voila I have instantly more storage after applying, it seems viable that there is something that can be done rather than formatting my disk, unless the necessity for that of course was overlooked. I am not sure if this is a very common issue or topic but how do you adjust or modify your apple keyboard so that you can adjust screen brightness or volume? I am currently running Windows XP SP3, on a 2.4Ghz Unibody Macbook.
When I use the F11, 12 buttons, the pages go away or the dashboard comes up. I've tried to change the settings but that didn't work either

On Windows in paint all you do is paste the picture and then resize it by dragging the corners, is there a way to do this on macs? I can't seem to find a way to do this in preview. And in Seashore I don't know how to do this unless I manually put in the scale size I want. I simply want to drag the corner of the picture to make it the size I want, how can I do this?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy iTunes library is on an external drive, and I borrowed a macbook pro for this trip. The last time I opened iTunes was on my 24" iMac, so the window was pretty big. Now that I opened it on the macbook, with a 15" screen, the bottom is just not on the screen and I have no way to read the corner to scale it down. It stays like this even if I quit and restart.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI managed to make a window slightly bigger than the screen, and now I can't access the 'handle' in the lower right corner to return the window to normal size.
I was using screen sharing from another computer and some strange things were happening, and I ended up with my iTunes window a little bigger than the displayable area on the screen. If I move the window up as high as possible (so that it's up against the menu bar), the bottom edge is just hanging off the bottom of the screen, just far enough that I can't grab the resizing handle.
I could have sworn this was possible and I just can't remember how to do it. In Windows 7, the OS is able to resize the windows to where it splits the screen between the two open windows equally. I could have sworn OS X is able to do the same thing, but I can't remember. I have a lot of papers and careplans to right. Am I wrong or is this not possible?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was playing with the maximize button on a Finder window a few days ago and toggling it would yield a different size every time (guess I was amused by that). So it go into a state where the resize corner is out of reach always now. Clicking on the maximize button does not change the size at all and just remains there. I want to be able to resize Finder again. How do I do it? For reference, attached is the screenshot of my desktop with Finder window, so you can see what I mean. I am unable to find a way to get it to a stage where the full window can be shown and I can resize it.

I want to shrink Vista's partition by 20GB and add that space to my Data drive. However, OS X can't seem to touch Vista's partition; and when I try to shrink Vista's partition within Vista, it puts the space after Vista's drive (but I need it before Vista's partition).

I'm in Disk Utility and I can see that the Leopard partition takes up about half of the total disk space. There is nothing else on the disk, the partition just isn't that big. I wanted to expand the partition to fill up the whole disk but I get an error that the partition map is too small or something.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi had my hard drive partitioned in 2 partitions: my lion one and my bootcamp one like this:but as I started installing things in my bootcamp partition i realized i needed more space, so i tried to resize my macintosh hd to a smaller size to enlarge my bootcamp partition, but after i did that and realized I couldn't resize my bootcamp partition with disk utility so i though "well ill just resize my macintosh hd back and that will be it, like i did several times before" but the thing is that disk utility wont let me do so, so now it looks like this:
I have 32gb of unused space i have tried with different things. I have tried with the debug option in the disk utility by tipping "defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1" into terminal and mounting my recovery HD and resizing my macintosh hd but it didnt work I have IPartition 3.4.0 in Lion but i cant get it to work because my partitions are from where sytem boots.
ive tried making a start up pendrive but it's a literally never ending process and I also tried making a start up dvd with the 3 different options: when i hit the download template half way to finishing the download says an error has occured and tells me to try again, so i tried with instalation media but it keeps serching and serching without finding the templates. and when i hit the "use existing templates this happens:
i have restarted my mac but the problem remains. i dont know why this is happening because i have had up to 3 partitions with 3 different OS X running perfectly and when I erased the 2 OS X i didnt wanted I could resize my lion partition without any problem.  so what I would like to do is in first instance to resize my bootcamp partition and make it bigger cause I need to install more stuff. i have seen many posts in which the say to run the Recovery HD on the free space left but my partition is smaller than my lion one so i guess i wont be able to do that?
summing it up:
1) i would like to make my bootcamp partition bigger, in case of that no being possible i would like to
2) make my Lion partition (macintosh hd) bigger filling those 32 gb of free space?

My MacBook Air runs OS X 10.9.3. The HD storage is 256GB. I created windows 7 partition (150GB) by BootCamp when first use. So for OS X, there is 100GB left.Today I add a new partition of 30GB size from Macintosh HD to test installing OS X 10.10 Yosemite DP. The installation was successful, but the new look of OS, including Dock, Font, et al, is awful. I am disappointed and then erase the test partition in 10.9.3.
Naturally I wanted the 30GB back to 10.9.3, and used Disk Utility to resize the Macintosh HD back to 100GB.However, it simply doesn't work, the size of HD remains 70GB, no error message showed. I am sure I followed the support doument to resize partition.
