I'm in Disk Utility and I can see that the Leopard partition takes up about half of the total disk space. There is nothing else on the disk, the partition just isn't that big. I wanted to expand the partition to fill up the whole disk but I get an error that the partition map is too small or something.

I found my Bootcamp partition is too small and will need to be resized eventually (or, rather, games are much much larger than I realized ). But I really don't want to reinstall Windows to accomplish this.
I recently bought my mother a Macbook. It was a store display one but she had no problems with that. Anyways when we first boot it up I noticed that on the desktop there is a Time Machine disk. So I openMacintosh HD that there is only 17 gbs free out of 33 gb, so I check System Profiler to see if there is a smaller hd in there but the it says that the hd is 150 gb.
So I'm wondering how to delete the time machine partition and resize the Macintosh HD partition so I can give her the most space she can get.
Basically the user is running 10.6.5 and has removed their Boot Camp partition, but is unable to grow their partition into the newly empty space.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have 3 partitions - 50GB OS X (HFS+); 70GB Vista (NTFS); and the rest is in Data (HFS+). I want to shrink Vista's partition by 20GB and add that space to my Data drive. However, OS X can't seem to touch Vista's partition; and when I try to shrink Vista's partition within Vista, it puts the space after Vista's drive (but I need it before Vista's partition).

I have 32gb of unused space i have tried with different things. I have tried with the debug option in the disk utility by tipping "defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1" into terminal and mounting my recovery HD and resizing my macintosh hd but it didnt work I have IPartition 3.4.0 in Lion but i cant get it to work because my partitions are from where sytem boots.
ive tried making a start up pendrive but it's a literally never ending process and I also tried making a start up dvd with the 3 different options: when i hit the download template half way to finishing the download says an error has occured and tells me to try again, so i tried with instalation media but it keeps serching and serching without finding the templates. and when i hit the "use existing templates this happens:
i have restarted my mac but the problem remains. i dont know why this is happening because i have had up to 3 partitions with 3 different OS X running perfectly and when I erased the 2 OS X i didnt wanted I could resize my lion partition without any problem.  so what I would like to do is in first instance to resize my bootcamp partition and make it bigger cause I need to install more stuff. i have seen many posts in which the say to run the Recovery HD on the free space left but my partition is smaller than my lion one so i guess i wont be able to do that?
summing it up:
1) i would like to make my bootcamp partition bigger, in case of that no being possible i would like to
2) make my Lion partition (macintosh hd) bigger filling those 32 gb of free space?

My MacBook Air runs OS X 10.9.3. The HD storage is 256GB. I created windows 7 partition (150GB) by BootCamp when first use. So for OS X, there is 100GB left.Today I add a new partition of 30GB size from Macintosh HD to test installing OS X 10.10 Yosemite DP. The installation was successful, but the new look of OS, including Dock, Font, et al, is awful. I am disappointed and then erase the test partition in 10.9.3.
Naturally I wanted the 30GB back to 10.9.3, and used Disk Utility to resize the Macintosh HD back to 100GB.However, it simply doesn't work, the size of HD remains 70GB, no error message showed. I am sure I followed the support doument to resize partition.

I have a MBP 2.4 SR and windows XP 32bit is installed on Boot Camp... I would like to know if it's possible to resize the OSX partition to make it bigger... Or do I have to uninstall windows and install it again...? Because I really need the space...
Btw, is there a program that can tell me what optional leopard software (printer drivers etc.) are installed?
Originally I had 2 partitions on the internal 500gb hd in my MBP, one was 455gb the other was 10gb that I used to mess around on. I do not remember what format the small partition was in last, it may have been FAT32. I wanted to delete the small partition and consolidate into one partition. My OSX partition is formatted macos extended. I went to Disk Utility and deleted the small partition by selecting it and clicking "-." There was grey space where the partition used to be. No problems here. Most of the options in Disk Utility are greyed-out.
I cannot select a different partition scheme. When I try to resize the partition either by dragging it to cover the grey space or by manually typing in a larger size, there is no way to apply the changes. The "Apply" button is continually greyed-out (See Image). If I try to resize the partition and then close the window, Disk Utility alerts me that I have an operation in progress and that unsaved changes will be lost. Disk Utility is not letting me resize my main OSX Partition, it appears that I do not have appropriate permissions to make this change - I am the only user/admin of this machine.
Well when I bought my Mac I said "O I bet I'll still use Windows a TON for various tasks." So I made a 100GB Partition for Windows. Now I'm realizing how dumb that was because I only boot into Windows once a month now, and I have only used about 10GB of that Windows Partition. So I have about 90GB free on that partition. Back on the OSX disk I only have 3GB free, and I need space. So, can I make the Windows partition smaller, or do I have to completely wipe it?

Turns out the error was Kernal protection failures with apps like iTunes (latest version), Grab, Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper. One recent report of a failure is at the bottom of this post. Thinking my 10.6.1 install had become corrupted (I had done an upgrade to SL), I decided to partition my 320 gig drive and do a erase and install on the new partition. My current install takes up 130gigs. I have tried using Disk Utility to make a new partition of 130, then 120 then 110 then 100 gigs but it fails each time at resizing the current partition.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI having trouble resizing an external harddrive of mine. It is a 500gb Lacie drive, and inside it has two partitions: time machine (250gb) and my stuff (250gb). I want to make time machine 150gb and make My Stuff occupy the remaining space. However, when I enter Disk utility, there is no dot between the partitions that I can drag. When I pull the corner, the disk gets smaller, but after resizing there is still a blue rectangle outlining where the old disk was. The partition "time machine" is used for time machine backups, but I have deactivated backups in Preferences, and Time Machine is currently "off". I have included an image for clarification. How can I resize the partitions the way I want them?

I made a partition on my macbook pro (128gb SSD) and I made it a bit too small. I went into disk utility and when I click on the main HD it will not let me resize it by dragging the corner up. I am down to 3gb of Bootcamp space. I could not afford the 256gb SSD so it is what it is.

Running Win 7 Ultimate 64-Bit and OS X 10.6.5. Winclone version is 2.2. I attempted to enlarge my Bootcamp Windows partition (deleted, resized to full, and then resized again with Bootcamp Assistant). I've made several attempts without any success. I have two Winclone images (11/2010 & 1/2011). The latest image doesn't even get started good before I get an error about 2 bad sectors and the one from last year runs all the way through and gives an error at the end. I ran disk repair on the complete partition before rezizing back to bootcamp and it still didn't work. I managed to get a win 7 repair disk to run one time and ran chkdsk on the bootcamp partition that returned no errors. I thought I might be able to install Win 7 fresh and then do a restore from a Windows system image that I have, but I can't get my Windows 7 disk to work when using the Bootcamp Assistant (I get a boot screen with two options (1. & 2. with nothing else visible) at the install point of the process and can't go past there).

I have bought another drive for extra storage space and would like to re-partition my 500GB drive so that Time Machine has the whole drive. So basically I need to delete the data partition and resize the Time Machine partition to use the whole drive. I did look at iPartition but apparently it doesn't work with Leopard.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is not as simple as the question implies, I had created a partition because of my account/hard drive/whatever screwing up (its a long story). In the end, I have a partition so that I have 2 half sized drives. But I deleted the old, damaged partition and now I just have my current one with half taken up by 'free space'. Here is a screenshot of what I'm presented with: [URL]. My issue is that I cant resize my hard drive partition even though there's loads of space. So my 500GB drive has a 250GB partition and then 250GB of free space that I cant use!

The picture above is evidence of my self-corrupting OS. Those 3 problems are the same every single time I boot my computer. I have done countless re-installs of OS X Lion, even bought a new hard drive and did a clean install. Because of the self-corruption, I cant resize or partition my drive for Windows, with Boot Camp giving me a generic "An error has occurred. Format your disk and re-install Mac OS X" (Partitioning failed so I never wiped).

This question concerns the new mid-2011 27" iMac I haven't used yet The internal HD's size is 1TB. Before I start using it, I'd like to:

I have a 10 GB encrypted disk image on my macbook (type OS Extended (journaled)). I've pretty much filled up the space so I want to resize. I go into disk utility with the disk unmounted and 'Resized' it to 20GB. Then I mount it and go into the Partition tab. I drag the corner all the way down to fill up the space and hit Apply. It goes through the motions without error but it does not actually extend the partition to the resize. On the right next it then says something to the effect that the disk is read only and cannot resize the partition. The write status is read/write until I click apple....then it switches to 'Unmounted, read-only'.

Many games launch in 800x600 resolution before they can be resized. To get around this I always minimize open application windows before I play, then click them out of the Dock when I've finished. Some apps come out of the Dock as they were before (Safari, Mail) while others expand as if they were in an 800x600 environment (iTunes). How can I get iTunes to behave the same way as Safari and Mail? Why is it expanding with a small window when I minimized it BEFORE launching the game in question?

Now that I've got all my required work software installed it's basically turning out that I really should have made it a lot larger. Is there a way to resize without having to reinstall everything? I remember back in my dual booting Windows and Linux days there was a program called Partition Magic that just sorta really magically, it seemed like, did whatever you wanted with partitions on the fly. Is there any way to do this with Leopard/Boot Camp?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several DVDs recorded on an LG DVD recorder that are the wrong aspect ratio (they play what should be 16:9 as 4:3, making everything look tall and narrow). I have tried everything in DVD Player to fix this, but only one thing works :Select Video ZoomDeselect "Lock aspect ratio"Select Manual mode and move "Width" slider until picture looks correct At this point, the adjustments have moved the left and right edges of the video out of the Viewer window. "Hey, no problem" I thought, "I'll just resize the Viewer window horizontally until the whole video is showing". Unfortunately, I can't. Dragging the bottom right of the Viewer window resizes it both horizontally and vertically DESPITE the "Lock aspect ratio" box being unchecked. In other words, it wants to preserve a 4:3 aspect even though I have adjusted the width slider manually. What I'm left with, is a window that shows the video undistorted, but with the left and right edges missing. What am I doing wrong, or this a bug in DVD Player?

I recently replaced Leopard 10.5 with a clean installation (not an upgrade) of Snow Leopard 10A432 (SL) on my Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook (aluminum, 2GB RAM). Under Leopard 10.5 I was able to use Disk Utility (DU) to dynamically re-size existing volumes on USB hard drives. But under SL I am unable to do so. While I am able to replace all existing partitions on a USB drive with a new set of partitions and resize them prior to their creation by dragging the slider bars, once created, DU will not let me dynamically resize the new partitions. Doing so was easy with DU under 10.5. For example, after I re-partitioned a USB drive with DU under SL and created 2 partitions, I was able to make the top partition smaller by dragging the bottom edge upward from the lower right corner, but there seems to be no way (and no slider bars) to adjust the size of the lower partition to use the space freed by having made the upper partition smaller. In fact, although the upper partition reports a smaller size, when clicked on, the border around the upper partition still includes the range defined by its initial, larger size. There also seems to be now way (no slider bars) at the top edge of partitions that would allow them to be expanded/contracted from the top down. Has anyone else encountered these issues? Any thoughts/suggestions as to how to resolve them? Are these known issues? I have searched but not come across it as yet.

I changed my HDD and try to install OSX snow leopard on the new one but I cannot find my new HDD in Disk Utility either. I look into System Profiler and couldn't find my HDD. Also Apple's Hardware test does not show any problem with my MBP and My new HDD is okay. What exactly is wrong with my MBP?

Can i Re-install Leopard and keep My Bootcamp Partition? Cause I think sumthing is up with my hard drive I repair permissions every day and the same tons of permission repairs come up every time i dont know what they are or why the permissions keep messing up everyday. Would reinstalling Leopard Fix this?
