Is there a way to preview/display the runtime/duration of a video file in Finder? I noticed that if it is a .mov file, then you can choose to display the file's duration in Icon view if you edit "View Options," Column view and with the Command+I shortcut, but with a few other video file types I've looked at this data isn't available.

So I just finished my latest short film, and I exported it to Finder. However I don't like the preview Finder chose for my video, it simply chose a random frame from my video and made that the preview of the file. I have a custom poster I made for the video I would like to make the preview of the file. I've look at other websites and they all mistook "preview" for icons. I am not talking about the icon of the file, I am talking about the actual preview of the file. If you open the Info pane of an image or a video file, there will be a tab under "Open With" named "Preview" and shows the preview thumbnail for the file. Can anyone tell me how I can manually change the preview of a file? I thought about importing the video into iTunes, change the cover art and take it out again, however because the file is encoded with Apple ProRes 4444 iTunes won't accept it and even if it did it would have been converted to other format, which is something I am trying to avoid and I would like to keep it ProRes 4444.

I have seen some people talking about a new feature in Snow Leopard, where hovering over MP3s or PDFs allowed you to preview the file. I am not seeing this feature on my Snow Leopard machine. How do you enable it?
View 16 Replies View RelatedIs there is a way to open preview in a full screen directly after pressing a space bar? I mean without intermediate state, in which it leaves a lot of space around. I installed snow leopard and was pleased to see how preview is working in finder. The only problem with it is that it is not going to a full screen by default which I would prefer on my MacbookPro 15'' screen. Probably it will be preferable for most of laptops by the way. Unfortunately I didn't found such option.
I even ready to run some terminal thing that would give me that default behavior, as otherwise this preview is not very useful for me. I have Xee that works fantastically good for pictures, but preview is a preview isn't it? I mean if a preview doesn't give me more details, what kind of preview is that then? It can go to a fullscreen anyway, I just need it to go there directly....
In Windows Explorer you can choose what columns appear such as duration,dimensions, bit rate etc but I cannot see anywhere where I can do that.Is it possible in Finder to view this information?

I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I am having problems with Preview and Snow Leopard. I can use Quick View to view jpeg files, but when I open them with preview. It does not display the correct image. It just displays a gray block. The only way to resolves this is to delete the preview prefernce files, and then it works. But after a couple of restarts it goes back to not displaying the correct image.

For example, in Mac Word, I can use File > Properties > General and see the full file location but I can't see how to do this on Preview. Clicking on the name as shown below, does not show the file location, only the folder it's in (or the desktop) - i.e. the next level up. So if I have filexxx.pdf in folder1>folder2>folder3, clicking on the filename in Preview shows folder3.Â

Before, there was previews from the album cover and every time you click on it, the music was played in preview mode directly from the finder. Just a few minutes ago, I updated the version of my itunes to the currently newest one. That didn't give me a solution indeed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.6.2 on my Rev A 13" MBP and have noticed an oddity in Finder over the last couple of months (I'm not sure when it started). If I have Finder open in Column View, I used to be able to choose a jpg and it would show a small preview in the final column of Finder.
Now, it shows the word Preview with the triangle to open and close the preview, along with the file information, but no actual preview. It's the same in Get Info on the file in question. I've tried switching Icon Preview on and off in View Options, I've tried moving the Finder plist file to the desktop and restarting the machine.
A couple OS's ago I remember if you opened a finder window on your desktop and if the column view was open it would attempt to create a preview, making your system completely useless until that preview was generated. It seems that this has been mostly addressed in Leopard, but still exists somewhat. But I've now discovered sadly another place where it exists and it has just cost me an hour of uploading time. getting info on idisk. I was uploading a large photoshop file on my idisk, 2GB, and I had 2 minutes left.
I accidentally did command I on a file on my idisk directory thinking it was my local directory. The file I got info on was 1.4GB.. it's now stuck trying to generate a preview image for that damn photoshop file and my poor 2GB upload that was 2 minutes away has apparently decided it was less important to finish uploading and to generate this damn preview! Which probably entails downloading the whole thing first.
I love the new stacks in snow leopard but sometimes I find myself wanting to space bar to preview etc and I can't so I want to quickly launch the finder into that folder. Is there a way? ie a hotkey and a click etc.
Recently I noticed icons of mp3 files are no longer as used to be in finder. Previously I had a dark music note icon and when i hover my mouse there was a play button. Now I only see itunes icon in mp3 files. "Show Icon Preview" option is enabled, and i can preview image and pdf files in finder. But something happened to the mp3 files. get back the good old icon preview for mp3 files.

my old Powerbook G4 clicking on an image would "display" a jpg or other image file via "preview". On my brand new Blackbook it does not, "preview is launched" but no image is displayed. I can open the files via a browers etc...
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open preview the window never appears. The Preview menu is present. The four-finger swipe down will show me all the files I have opened previously. But when I select one, nothing happens. Every now and again, I can get a document to open but generally I give up. This has been going on for a while. I've tried menu file>open , option-click - file open with in finder, I've tried pdf documents etc. The other thing that has been bugging me is the inability to close files. When I do actually get a preview window to display, the side bar includes a variety of files I have opened previously. Actually, I think it has kept every last file I have ever opened in preview....disconcerting actually.

I have a little problem with ichat which i suspect is something relatively simple however i still can't get it sorted out. A friend of mine just purchased a macbook (with OS X 10.5 and I have 10.4.11) and we have been video ichatting without any problems. I picked up a macbook (10.5) for my gf and got ichat set up and running with out any problems, tested the video chat and all was good. Now all of a sudden when i try to video chat with either of them i can only see my preview window and can't see them. They however don't have any problems and can see me and their preview window. They have video chatted with each other with no problems so it only seems to be me. Is there any weird compatibility issues with ichat 3.1.9 and ichat 4? Like I said, initially there was no problems with my friend and I but now that I picked up the macbook for the gf things are all out of sorts.

I have found a couple of apps that do this, such as Screen Grabber and QiPo. How ever, none of these are suitable;
Screen Grabber under 10.6 doesn't work with WMV files. The output image file is full of black frames.
QiPo is the best out of all of them, how ever it doesn't allow you to select how many thumbnails to have in the one preview image file (it's pre set to 18).
I have emailed the developer of Screen Grabber regarding a OS X 10.6 fix, but am yet to hear back from him, so in the mean time i am still trying to find a Mac app that can serve my needs.
I want a game to play my favorite song when the game is supposed to be playing its own theme song. The theme song is in a sound file that is located on my computer's hard drive. The theme song sound file is in the same format as the sound file that contains my favorite song, so I don't need to convert any files. What is the easiest way to make the game think that the sound file I want the game to use is the sound file of the theme song?

How do I get Preview to display hyperlinks in a PDF document? I need to download a manual. When I click on the link in Safari, it only downloads the Table of Contents (1 p., 29KB). There are hyperlinks for each of the other 16 sections, but when I click on them, nothing happens, nothing further downloads, etc. How do I access the other sections?

However... and there is always an however.... when I first had it, I saw a battery life of 5.04 hours. However, after a few days, when I am now charging the battery, I am seeing only about 3.5 hours.
What are other people are getting.
I have let the MBA run totally flat before recharging, which i guess it probably important.
