MacBook Pro :: Display Flickering With Red / Green Pixels?

Mar 29, 2010

Sometimes the LCD display goes into this mode where in some areas you see red and green pixels flashing. I have taken a few pictures, which obviously don't render the flashing effect, but give you an idea of what it looks like:

[URL]

This is a MacBook Pro pre-unibody The graphic card is an ATI Radeon X1600 I ran the TechTool Deluxe tool to test the video RAM (and everything else), but it didn't detect anything wrong I have never seen this when the laptop is connected to an external monitor This doesn't happen that often; say 1 times out of 10, usually after the laptop comes out from sleep. The issue stays for a few minutes and then goes away until next time, so I am unlikely to have the problem when I go to Apple Store for service.

MacBook Pro :: Purple And Green Pixels On Display

Jun 30, 2014

So I have this collection of pixels near the bottom of my screen but they're only visible over a dark grey area, like when you're in the login screen (I have an early 2013 MBPr 15 btw)

It's probably a problem with the screen itself and not the GPU (or maybe the connection between them?) since if I take a screenshot it's not visible and I've connected it to an external monitor and it doesn't have it.

I took a picture of said problem [URL] .....

I've had this for a few weeks now and I've tried those youtube videos (I just to have some image retention after leaving something to run for a long time) which have decreased the amount of pixels. They all dissapeared for a few hours and now they're back.

Software :: Corruption On MacBook Display - Random Green Pixels

Jan 7, 2009

I have had my MacBook for just over a year. A weeks ago, the display started go weird: - strange shapes started appearing on the desktop - a fluorescent green (like vertical strips of 5 or 6 pixels in a group), sometimes as a shadow of a previous open window, sometimes just random squares or lines. The blocks of green go if i run my mouse over them with the button pressed down. -a fluorescent green light sometimes shines around the programme tiles in the dock. -shadows behind open windows very accentuated and fluorescent green - sometimes text on web pages and documents look garbled - again this goes if i run my mouse over them, and either go or comes back in a different place. Some times i can go a few hours without experiences these problems, other times the issue is there on start up. I ran the quick hardware check, and no problems were reported, a week later i ran the extensive check, and again the system seemed fine.

Mac Pro :: Red And Green Pixels On Display

Dec 9, 2014

I have a Mac Pro 1,1. Tonight the display starting looking like the screen shot attached. Then it wouldn't come up at all. Black screen, with a few bands of green pixels.

My first thought is that the Graphics Card is going bad. Odd thing is, though, that I captured this via screen capture from another Mac. Could it still be a bad GPU if it looks this way remotely? I'm not sure how these early Mac Pros work. I have Mac minis that, when the display is off (or headless), the GPU is not used to render the GUI via screen sharing. So, I tried disconnecting the display from the Mac Pro, and I get the same screen shot.

I can boot the Mac Pro into Safe Mode, but that is it.

MacBook Pro :: Frozen With Pink And Green Pixels

Aug 25, 2014

I have a late 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. I've been using it today and it's been completely fine. that was up until I was uploading my recent holiday photos to iPhoto. I left it to upload and came to check on it after 5 minutes. I found the program had frozen and pink and green pixels were spotted all over the screen.

I turned the laptop off by the power button. When I started her up again I found the white screen with the pink and green pixels everywhere and apple logo appear. It starting booting and then just stopped. the screen froze and nothing was working. I've tried booting up in safe mode and again it just freezes. I've included a photo I've taken if the frozen screen.

OS X :: Vertical Bar On Display Showing Blurry Pixels - Gray Bar Of Pixels?

Feb 13, 2010

for the last week or so my MBA has been showing a ~3 inch bar running vertically along the middle-left of the display. Until today, the area looked just like blurry pixels (some things like graphics would still appear, so I don't believe the problem is with the pixels themselves). Now the area has become a gray bar of pixels.

MacBook Pro :: Frozen Screen With Pink And Green Pixels

Aug 27, 2014

I have an early 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. During the process of uploading photos to iPhoto, the screen froze and pink and green pixels appeared. I shut down by the off button and upon on turning it back on found the screen as shown below. The apple appears and then the clock spins for a moment then freezes. I cannot get any further.

I've tried booting in Safe Mode and other options I've read when trying to boot but to no avail.

Someone said I need to run the AHT but as this was purchased from a friend, I don't have the installation CD's. I've found a DMG file of the AHT but am completely at a loss as to what to do with this.

There are random black horizontal lines, constantly on the screen. When I leave the setting of 1280x800 (default), the defects disappear, only small distortions, which makes me think that the error can be corrected via software update. As the Lion was on 10.7.3, I upgraded to 10.7.4 to see if improved. But the errors persists. At the end of the video, the lines are most striking, becoming impossible to work.

MacBook Pro :: Why Does Display Keep Flickering With Dots

Jun 4, 2014

It used to stay like that until either I'd move my mouse over the area, scroll the page up or down, or refresh. It only seemed to happen in browsers, not in Finder or anything. It's the worst when watching videos on YouTube or any kind of flash video. But works fine on Netflix. I say "used to" because the above screenshots are from July 2013. I sent my laptop away to Apple but they were "unable to reproduce the problem." I figure they just left the laptop open and waited. You have to use it like it's YOUR laptop and then it will happen. Anyways, now it's happening more often. Except it's just a flicker. Over and over again. I could record video of it, if necessary.

So, I'm running 10.9.3. I'm not sure what other information is needed. But my computer is up to date. I don't have warranty. I just want to know what is causing my computer to do this.

MacBook Air :: Slight Flickering Only On Dark Grey On External Display?

Sep 12, 2010

I have a 28" inch display attached to newest version of Air. Works ok except when I have a full screen on plain dark grey background, then I see a waviness or flickering effect. Like the dark grey in Iphoto background. Other than this, the other colors seems ok. Pictures are fine, even when dark. Maybe there's a slight flickering with dark blue. Any explanations for this.
using mini display port to dvi. Tried with a friends dual link display, was a little different, but still unstable looking in dark grey when it fills the screen.

Could it be just what it takes to make this color, or the Hertz, which is 60. Other than this, no problem with the screen.

MacBook Pro :: Brand New 17" Display Lines / Flickering / FAIL

Jun 30, 2009

I have a new 17" uMBP that I've owned for just a few days. I noticed yesterday that while I watching a video that i had strange green/red lines (horizontal) appear across the screen and flash/flicker. I freaked out and closed the lid, putting the unit into sleep, and opened it again and it all stopped. Today, I was using it again as usual, on firefox/etc. when it started happening again. Horizontal lines across the screen, the entire display flickering and screwing up and finally going black. I don't know what's going on, but I know this definitely isn't supposed to happen. I took a screenshot during the flickering/lines/etc but the screenshot came out perfectly fine unfortunately. I'll try and get it on camera next time.

I have all software updates installed. I tried resetting PRAM. The flickering I'm talking about isn't minor, it's actually absolutely horrendous and the computer is completely unusable when it's going on. It ultimately leads to a black screen. Anyway, this is all on the 9400, and I have no idea what's going on but I definitely know this isn't supposed to happen. UPDATE: I booted into Windows via bootcamp and it STILL happens. I also connected it to an external display(which works perfect), which leads me to believe that it's 100% a hardware issue. I'm taking it back to the apple store, enough said. This is my first Mac and I can say I'm definitely not happy to be having such issues with a $2500 machine.

MacBook Pro :: Flickering Display, Aluminum Clam Shell, Trackpad Not Working?

Jun 23, 2012

Our display flickers on one side and has multicolored vertical bars running down the left side at best, or the whole screen greys out over the top of the graphical display, is physically no longer fully attached on that side near the hinge (you can press it down quite a bit after it has been closed), and the aluminum clamshell seems like it's warped.  The bottom access panel has become no longer a smooth fit - it sticks up a few millimeters at the gap instead of being flat. We used to be able to hold the back left side and the screen would work, now we have been sitting it on a wooden structure with a back support and pushing it against that so we can see the screen for the past year or two.  Now the flickering vertical bars are getting worse and the wooden support doesn't always work, and as an added bonus, the trackpad recently stopped working (it no longer 'clicks' and acts like it's constantly pressed down, so we have to use an external mouse with it).  It's pretty frustrating because we've babied this thing (it's never been dropped or abused and has only left the house like twice, and one of those times was to take it in to see about this very problem!) and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect, but of course we never had AppleCare and this powerful expensive beast is now a desktop computer with a super hard to see screen.  I've been told we need to pay $400 to get a whole new clamshell.

MacBook Pro :: External Display Flickering Static When Connected Thru HDMI Splitter

Jun 25, 2014

I have a Late 2011 MBP, just recently I also go an Xbox and wanted to hook it up to my external display that I have been using for a long time with no issues. I went and bought this: URL....to be able to easily switch between the two inputs. The xbox works fine, however when I view my Macs input the screen flickers a static image very frequently.

I know what you're thinking, it's probably an issue with either a cable, or the device. But when I boot into Windows via Bootcamp with the same exact setup, there is no flicker at all. The display is a dell s2440L, the HDMI adapter is a rocket fish.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have tried: Resetting PRAM/SMCChanging out HDMI cables on both the Splitter output, and the inputs (I tried 3 different cables on both the inputs, and outputs.)Downgrading OSX to 10.7 (And then went back to 10.9)Lowering the resolution on the monitor (Lower resolutions flicker just as much, if not more.)Resetting the splitter by unplugging the HDMI cord powering it and plugging it back in.and of course, plugging my computer into the splitter input that the Xbox works fine on, as well as taking the xbox one out so the computer is the only input on the splitter.

Like I said, the Xbox works fine, and even the computer works fine in Windows, but whenever I boot into OSX my screen flickers with this static. I should add, the display works fine when not connected to the splitter on OSX.

MacBook Pro :: Difference Between DEAD Pixels And STUCK Pixels?

May 14, 2010

So after waiting 4 weeks my High-res Glossy MBP FINALLY arrived...I was so happy. Got home switched it on and WOW it really is a beautiful machine...After using it for about 30 mins however i noticed a small dot to the lower right half of the screen... I looked closer and realized it was either a dead or stuck pixel( I dont exactly know the difference). I did a few test on it, and its ONLY visible when a light color is on the screen (White, Gray etc) However when the screen is DARK blue, Dark green or black it cant be seen at all...

It kind of looks like a TINY speck of water or liquid the size of 1 pixel stuck under the glass... I noticed that it does get lighter and darker when i adjust the brightness of the screen. Can anybody give me some tips? Anything i can do to fix it? Is it in fact a dead or a stuck pixel? I tried the JSscreen fix which is basically a online tool that opens up a flashing screen...Ive had it on for about 30 mins...but no luck

Jun 22, 2009

I'm on my third LED Cinema Display (for various issues) but I've noticed all of them have DOZENS of very tiny specs of color that are only apparent on a black screen. Furthermore, they seem smaller than an actual pixel (have to be up very close) and they are only apparent at certain angles (and even sometime change color) as opposed to dead/stuck pixels. These always pass my initial dead pixel check over a full black or white screen but I find them once I get in real close.

It was not installed with compatible bootcamp because x64 operating systems are not supported yet. It has been running fine for months though? I also run a small dell 17" TFT off the same graphics card and no problems with that. It defaults to the main desktop on starting up vista, but only in vista. And I get this fast flashing light - about 2 every second or so - regularly. No amber lights and no groups of three.
