After installing Lion on my mini, I no longer get a "recognition sound" when I plugin a usb device. Is this normal?

After upgrading to Lion (10.7.3) it started this anoying beep sound that is almost unbearable. Also, I upgraded to Lion so that my Mac could run faster, but I am more disappointed now!

10.7.4 frequently freezes with the translucent dialog to power down then power up. This is not isolated to any particular application. Started with the upgrade to 10.7.4. Bluetooth device Bose Wireless Sound-link will not play either but does show connection.

This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI frequently have to switch my sound output device from Line Out to Headphones. I know all about the Option-Click of the menubar icon, but what I really want is to assign a hotkey to cycle through them (similar to the alt tab program scroll) when I can't easily get up to cross the room for my mouse.
If it helps I use a Logitech DiNovo Mac edition keyboard. I've looked all through it's prefpane but it doesn't have an option to switch sound outputs. If there was an unknown keyboard shortcut to switch outputs then I could easily just assign it to an Fx key.
On my 2009 I've noticed now that after using bootcamp for a bit then booting back into os x that i have no sound available, there's no sound devices in preferences. This is using the line-out jack.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been searching the internet high and low over the last couple of days to try and find some sort of device to attach my new 5.1 surround sound to my MBP 13". The speakers have front, rear and center/subwoofer inputs, which are 3.5mm jacks. At the moment all i can get is the subwoofer and 2 other speakers working at once. I understand that some of the content of my laptop wont be in 5.1 surround sound, but I'd still like that to be played through all of the speakers not just 2. So basically here's a list of the features I really want:
*Firewire or USB connection
*Output to my speakers
*Possibly an audio input for a guitar (not very important)
*The ability to play stereo in all of my speakers
Do I need to change/download anything on my mac to be able to output 5.1 in for example a DVD that I am playing etc?

I'm getting message right now saying "selected device has no output controls", not allowing me to switch. I rebooted with the interface already turned on. I've run into theis before- can't figure out what causes this to happen. Sometimes it's OK. ?

I lost my macbook speakers sound after instalation, there is grey icon and I can't control volume. Please let me know all possible ways to resolve problem. Btw,after reboot I heard sound when mac loads, and its working when I using headphones. When I start iTunes, and plug out head phones there is a red light. When I close iTunes red light disapears. But no sound at all.

I've upgraded my old MacBook (MacBook1,1/Early 2006) with a new SSD, 2GB RAM and a fresh installation of Snow Leopard (Retail). Everything runs much smoother now, except that there is no more sound (no sound device found). I don't think it's a hardware problem, since the startup sound (chime) still works perfectly. Everything worked fine with OS X 10.4. I tried a SMC and PRAM reset, but didn't help. Some results on Google said that I should try to stick in some headphones and that should do the trick, but it didn't.

My problem is when I connect a usb device such as my iphone or camera there is no sound played signifying that it is connected. I am used to using windows where a noticeable tune it played everytime a device is connected or disconnected. I have tried looking in setting and such without much luck. The Sound Settings show no output device. When trying to adjust the sound a circle with a line through it appears. Cannot run the volume adjusted up or down either. Also the sound does not work with a headset either. Have tried PRAM and SMC rest as well as plugging and unplugging headset. Running 10.9.3. Was running fine yesterday - feels like it may be hardware problem?
I was recently on the alltel website trying to preview ringbacks for my phone and when I try to listen to the audio, a little box pops up saying that it "has content of MIME type �application/x-mplayer2�. Because you don�t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can�t be displayed."
I downloaded the flip4mac WMV to see if that would help and there's still no change. I then went into system preferences, under quicktime and in the advanced setting I made sure that streaming, video, audio, MPEG, MP3, and miscellaneous were all checked and enabled (this being under MIME settings). Still I'm not able to preview the ringback audio on alltel's website. Is there something else that I may not be doing right?
I have a 24" aluminum iMac G5. I have never had a problem with sound before, and feel like this problem is isolated to a certain DVD but the DVD works on EVERY other player I own. Everything pretty much plays DVDs, so that's many!
So here's my problem: There's parts of this movie that have very high pitched sounds, like electronic sounds that are just sound effects in the movie. Whenever I get to those parts in this movie (maybe even other movies for all I know, I don't play many) and the sound goes quiet, like the speakers can't handle that high pitched sound.
I feel there must be something I can do about it, right? I just use the regular default DVD player application that pops up when I put a DVD in. I tried playing with that equalizer but nothing changed. Any ideas...?

I went to MOTU's website and downloaded os x drivers, and installed them... but I still can't get the computer to see the device. Profile or whatever shows the firewire ... yet device doesn't show up

After updating my system to 10.7.4, the flash plugin crashes in both Safari and Firefox. Videos don;t so much as start. I reverted back to 10.7.3 with time machine and flash workes fine again. Reinstalled the update, and broken again. Safari and Firefox are all up to date as well as the flash plugin. All caches have been cleared. Based on info I have gotten from this and other forums, I have checked all the settings in the flash system preferences.Â

I am using a mid 2009 Macbook pro, and just updated to 10.7.4. Since doing this my Flash plugin crashes on both Safari and Firefox so I can't even load Youtube videos. Â I've got the most updated version of Firefox and Flash player, and after looking through forums have tried rebooting my Macbook several times. Each time I reboot Youtube videos load a little bit more without crashing, but I havn't got more than 5 seconds into a video yet.Â

I'm currently having is with the Quicktime 7.7.1 plugin for Firefox. I use Firefox 12, running on OS Lion, and this plugin has some sound issue with a particular site I like to visit. When playing audio midis, it sounds tinny and plunky / compressed.I did not have this problem before Lion, but the plugin does work fine on other sites. I tried to delete the Quicktime app. thinking it somehow became corrupted, but I may be wrong. I had my data transferred from my old mac to the new one I have now. I don't know if that could have affected the QT plugin somehow or what.

Getting errors when trying to update to 5.1 on iPhone 4s and iPad 1. Iv tried to update through the device and on iTunes and its not working. Both devices are NOT jailbroken. iTunes saying network connection can not be established. And trying through iPad's software update on the device says " Unable to check for update. I recently installed Vista 64 via Bootcamp 2.1 (OEM DVD that came with the machine) ... everything works fine (Video / Display / iSight / Trackpad / Keyboard) except .. there is NO SOUND!!! I downloaded the Realtek drivers from their website .. but still no avail! The Speaker Icon indicates that there is "No Audio Output Device Installed"
