View 1 RepliesI am currently building a RAID setup for storage of iTunes and other files. I have 4 hard drive spots to work with. I have been throwing around a few options. safest way of doing this would be great!
Option 1:
4 x 1.5TB (2x1.5TB RAID 0 + 2x1.5TB RAID 0 Clone) What would be the worst case scenario with this? if one hard drive fails I would just use the clone or vice versa.
Option 2:
4 x 1.5TB RAID 1 with no clone. Which of these is the better option? or is there an option 3?
Logged in as root, when I try to copy my TimeMachine backup to a new disk I get:

I would like to re-install OSX 10.7, how do I find the copy of the install disk? Can I just use a software process to re-install? Clean install, not a backup.

Why does Mac OX 10.6.8 keep making copies of a file anytime I download, copy, or move a file? It will copy, dowload or move the file, then begin making copies until I reboot. This makes it impossible to deal wit hfiles unless I want to spend a lot of time rebooting after every time, then deleting all the redundant copies.

I'm thinking about selling my MBP and before I do that I want to know which is the best way to reformat my MBP so all of my data is completely erased? I don't want the next owner to be able to see all my info and whatnot.

I need to move a bunch of files over, and perhaps some preferences and such. Should i create the new admin account, change the permissions on all of the files i want to transfer so that the new account has read/write on them, log in to the new account and transfer the files over?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in the midst of backing up an external drive (to another external drive) via Firewire 800, which works fine, but for some strange reason one specific file won't be copied. It's an iDVD file with a filesize of 12.98 GB. All other files have been copied without any problems.
When copying over to the backup drive all seems fine for a while, then (after having copied 4.01 GB) I hear some "clunking" sounds from the source drive followed by the error message shown below. I've tried copying the said file several times and to different backup drives, and in all instances the file copying stops at 4.01 GB.
I've checked both drives with Disk utility and they check out fine. And the iDVD file opens fine in iDVD.
Could it be that MacOSX needs some free "work space" on one or several of the drives in question, which isn't available?
Cureently, the source drive has only 10.63 GB free space, the destination drive has 582 GB available and the computer's (1.67GHz Powerbook G4) internal 80 GB drive has 23 GB free space.
I'm having an issue copying from one external to another (I just recently got 1TB for x-mas). Both of the drives are western digitals, so they're very good. The problem I'm having is every time it gets to my iTunes music, I get this error:
You can't copy some of these items because their names are the same as other items on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't distinguish between upper - and lowercase letters in filenames.
I want to rip my old svcd and vcds onto my harddrive, my mac however cannot copy the .mpg files and I wanted to use VCD Copy to rip them. The program works but says it's finished after just one second and the created file has no content.

Earlier i posted to ask how can i format using SL upgrade disk. I came across a problem. I have a work .ISO image which is about 9 GB and i tried copying that to my External HD with 20GB free Disc space. I am not able to copy it. I tried searching for a program which will make it into an archive and split it (like WinRAR in PC) but wasn't successful.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAn issue arose today with our new MacPro/FCPX/SNS EVO SAN combo.Â
When importing media from a portable drive using FCPX in “copy files” mode, with the Library’s media folder residing on the SAN, FCPX imports but does not copy the media. The clip appearing in the browser is still linked to the original file.Â
If the clip is of a codec that can be optimized and the option in the import window is ticked, only the optimized media is copied to the SAN volume.Â
Renders work, writing to a dedicated NAS volume, Exports work too, writing to another dedicated Exports NAS volume.Â
I am stumped. I have never seen FCPX behave this way. The strange thing is that at no time does it indicate any problem with the copying process not succeeding…Â
Because the optimized media is created on the volume I would imagine this is probably more of an OS/FCPX issue but I don’t know enough about the processes in the mac to be sure of that.Â
OBTW: Trashed the prefs, with both Pref Manager and alt+cmd at launch. Â

I once tried to delete the files but then when I played them on itunes they wouldnt work. I dont wanna have to do everything one by one.
Since we added 2 new Imacs to our network last week, anytime we double click on a file, it makes a copy...if you double click on the copy it opens up. If you drag file to the Quark icon, it opens OK, but you can only do 1 save, then you have to do Save as because you get "unexpected end of file encountered". We have a simple network that assigns IP addresses to those things on the network if that helps. Any ideas?? Oh yea, new imacs are running Leopard and we are still using Quark 6.5 on them...one has 7.1 loaded, but it has the same problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought an 8 gig memory stick - that was advertised as being PC & Mac compatible. I put it in and it loaded fine. But when I tried to copy a file to it - it told me that the file name was too long. The name wasn't that long so I renamed it '1.jpg' - but got the same response. I tried other files and go the same. So I launched 'Disk Utility' and reformatted it using the 'Mac OS Extended (journaled) option. This worked fine. But this time when I tries to copy any files, it told me that the operation could not be completed because I did not have sufficient privileges to do this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have OSX leopard as a disc image on my desktop. When I try to copy the .dmg file over to my external hard drive it copies for a while, then an error message says it can't copy it over and stops. I'm really confused as this sort of problem doesn't usually happen.
I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 and I want to install Leopard. The Leopard disc image is 6.66GB.
I can't burn it to a DVD either because the discs I have are 4.7GB & the .dmg is 6.66GB. Do I need to buy a bigger DVD blank disc?
Another question is how I should burn the disc. Should I simply burn the .dmg file straight onto a DVD (if I can get one that is big enough!) using Disc Utility?
I have copied a home made dvd onto my hard drive ,through system utilities etc, but when I go to my hard drive I can see it there but cannot seem to open the file to play it.

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my drive to another higher capacity drive. The cloning process went smoothly. Afterwards I noticed my file icons were all blank and setting the default application would not work. The default appears as some .ico file. I ran Disk Warrior through it and it found some problems that it was able to repair. Now, setting the default app works but my icons still appear blank. I can double click on a file and the correct app will launch but the file icons are still blank.
