since upgrading to Lion an embedded attachment in a e-mail, jpeg or pdf will cause a recieving outlook to stop displaying the e-mail content before the atachement-icon, no mail content after the icon is displayed anymore. Mail itself shows propper content of the e-mail.Â

I finally updated to new MBP (Retina display) from an old Powerbook running 10.5.3. I am finding that none of the PPC-based programs will run (but you already knew that), with the biggest problem being that I cannot import my mail. If I could get this to work, I believe I could work around everything else.
I was using Entourage 2004 (mainly because it could handle a huge Db -- which kept crashing Mail). I am really at a loss at what to do. Some of the potential fixes I've thought of is trying to download a newer version of Entourage on my old PB, import everything to that, and then move that over to the new MBP. But then again, many of the newer programs will not work on the 10.5.3 OS. I don't even have a problem using a different email client, or perhaps even web-based mail, but I need all of my "old" emails in one place that I can work from.

At "Apple's Snow Leopard Refined" site, you can find shortly after the middle the paragraph "The right service at the right time" with an illustration: A contextual menu (Service) of a selected text in Safari, "New Note With Selection". This automatic instantly produces a brand new and screaming yellow mail note containing the selected text, neatly filled out with subject (beginning of the text), sender, date and time. You can access services with a right click of your mouse or Control-click of your trackpad. Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to have this very practical contextual menue entry that should work with any program where you can select text: Open the app "Automator" and choose "Service". Select in the left column "Library" (should be by default), then "Copy to Clipboard" in the right column and move it into the empty main space. Then put the list entry "Run AppleScript" below the first item in the space....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am away from home, and the inbox of one of my mail accounts on my MBP (10.7.3) has lost all its information. When I get home I want to restore (most of) the lost data from my Time Machine backup.Â
However, I do not want to restore all the accounts and all the mailboxes, just the one that was lost.Â
How to I find the Inbox for that account, in order to use the older file in Time Machine to restore it with?Â

Everytime I modify a note in the 'Notes'mailbox iun Mail, an email appears in my inbox. Is there anyway to remove the email without removing the note from 'Notes'?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for a note taking app that does what I want, but I couldn't really find anything. Before you start to suggest Evernote, don't. I don't like it. What I need is a simple note taking app without all the fuzz, much like Mac OS X's built in notes (Mail) that syncs to my iPad and iPhone. I should be able to create multiple notes, and I need to attach pictures to the notes (or embed them).
That's really all I am asking for. The only reason I am not using Mac OS X's own notes app is that the notes have a size limit. As soon as I attach 2-3 pictures, the notes are being truncated on the iPhone and iPad (e.g. I only see part of the note, the rest is missing).
After being threatened to get hacked, I've decided to clear out all the emails on the mailserver (gmail's online mail client). But before I do, is there a way to download all the emails from my mail server from all time? I only set Leopard's Mail client up on March 8th, so I only have emails from March 8th and after on Leopard. I want to have email from since I registered my Gmail account years ago.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFollowing Apples instructions on backing up the mail data and restoring as well as what I have so far found on the various forums has allowed me to move 99% of my mail to my new computer pretty much spot on except for one thing - the outgoing SMTP server list. Is there somewhere else I need to be looking for that information?Â
I have quite a few email accounts and with that comes quite a few outbound SMTP servers, much to my dismay I discovered that all of that information did not restore when I put the mail data all back into place. Now I assumed that perhaps it was in my keychain, but that would just be the passwords for the servers and not the list itself and the attachment of the various mail accounts to their respective SMTP servers, right?Â
So, my question is two-fold: one, is there a way to get that list back and have it attached to my 20+ email accounts and if I can do that then two, where in the keychain do I look in order to also get all those passwords back as well? It's not the end of the world, but just a big pain the butt.Â
On a side note, but related, I've also noticed that about 1/3rd of the email accounts I restored just won't log in and get mail, they just "spin" and bomb out, generally saying the password is bad even though I've put it in correctly numerous times (my mobile me account is one that comes to mind). Is this a known side effect of restoring? My only solution so far has been to delete those accounts and re-create them.Â

I could not find any direct reference to my question - believe me I searched everywhere before coming here.Â
Some details:
- OS X 10.7.4
- Mail 5.2 (1278)Â
Prior to my intervention, Mail was not really running at all; It was making entire system run slow and I could not send mail at all. I decided to backup my Mail folder and Export all the 'On My Mac' folders before making any changes.Â
After all was backed up, I rm -rf ~/Library/Mail ; I then reopened my Mail app. I re-added the old account. All my online stuff is fine obviously as it is delivered through IMAP. The 'On My Mac' stuff however is seemingly a different story. I attempted to import the exported 'On My Mac' folders, however after they were reimported, none of the subfolders were there, and 1 mailbox in particular did not report an import failure, but does not even import into the 'On My Mac' section.Â
I also attempted moving the old Mailbox .mbox package/folders to the same place they had been, but this does not seem to work either. I am just presented with an empty folder structure upon reopening Mac Mail.Â

When I try to purchase the Lion Server from the App Store it displays a message that OS X Lion is also required uand I have to purchase both even when I am logged in and next to the Server item the client version confirms that I have already purchased it with a "download" button - the app has been downloaded but cannot install it as it is waiting for the app store to download the server components... and what if I just want to use it as a client only? Any suggestions besides the obvious $80 purchase.

I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?
I've been using Mail.app for my gmail accounts for quite a while now - but it seems that Mail just isn't designed for gmail. For example - when I search for a message, each message will appear two or more times (located in Inbox & All Mail, not inc. any labels), archiving messages isn't exactly easy, and deleting messages doesn't quite.. delete messages.
Is there a way to make Mail.app more friendlier towards Gmail accounts or is there a better client for Mac for Gmail accounts?
I am having issues with My OS 10.5 default Mail client ver 3.0.
Issue : I have account on Microsoft exchange server OS windows 2008 IIS 7. I am able to recive emails in my Mail but not able to send mail's i did a check on network , it shows it was able to authi'cate with SMTP server but still mails are not going out.
For Microsoft Outlook there is a file "Personel Store (PST)" which consists of all the mails, contacts etc. Is there any such file for default Apple mail client so that I can take backup of my mail easily?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor various reasons I prefer to use Entourage as my default e-mail client, but although I have set Entourage to be my default email client in Preferences whenever another application tries to send an automated email (Such as iCal for an alarm) then it tries to open Mail which is not set up...
Does anyone know if its possible to change this? I don't like being forced to use Mail.
How to delete messages from mac mail client but not from server?
I want to delete mail from my mac mail client, but I want it to stay on the mail server.
Until recently, whenever I clicked a URL in a mail message (inside Thunderbird), the URL would open in a new Safari tab. Now it opens in a new Safari window.Â
I presume it's Safari that's controlling this. What preferences setting? Platform: Safari 5.1.4 under OS X 10.7.3

I have used POP mail accounts for many, many years. I am unfamiliar with IMAP. The one reason I have not switched to IMAP was because I like to keep local copies of email. My email archive dates back to about 1994 or so. So now with iCloud I do not have the option of using POP. But, with POP It has been very helpful to have these digital (and fully searchable!) records for things like ordering parts for the grill to legal issues. Â
My question: can IMAP be configured to keep a local copy of emails in a "folder" (mailbox) on the client which is NOT synced up with the server? i.e., when the email is deleted from the server it is NOT deleted from the client computer. Â
I have my mail accounts in both my Macbook and iPad. If I have opened the mail in my computer I DON`T want my iPad to pick them up too.Â
But if I first pick them up in the iPad, I still want the computer to pick them up.Â

View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Thunderbird as my preferred mail client. However, one thing I don't like is how when I am in the inbox, anytime I click on a message it always opens beneath. This is not that big of a deal, but what bugs me is that the message is then counted as a "read message." Therefore, like I'm sure many of you do as well, I constantly have to secondary click --- drag cursor down to "mark" --- then click "as read".
I have to do this in order to mark it as "unread" so I remember to reply to it later. If I single click (or tap) the cursor over and email in my inbox, it will either not open up beneath and not be marked as read, or still be opened up beneath (in the inbox) but not be marked as read? The second option would be preferred, but either would be better than the current default setting I have.
I'm a lurker around here who's normally able to find the answers I need on the forum, but this one keeps stumping me and whatever search terms I'm using hasn't helped.
So I moved my email account from a GoDaddy hosted account to a Google Apps email account. After doing so, I added the mail account to my iPad and my iPhone, but when I tried to add it to my Mail Client, it kept telling me it couldn't connect to imap.gmail.com, despite my ability to ping it.
I tried to setup my mobileme account to see if it was isolated, but mobileme, is having the exact same problem.
