OS X V10.7 Lion :: Remove "Guest" Icon On Startup?
Mar 14, 2012
For some reason, the Lion startup screen has my Account Icon and the Guest Icon. It used to only show my Icon. I want to get rid of the Guest icon as it used to be.
I have gone to preferences/users and tried to disabled the Guest User, but it makes no difference.
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I7, 8GB, 750GB
When I turn on my computer, it shows that a guest could get onto the internet without a password. I don't want this to happen. I tried disabling the guest account from the settings but it still shows up.
lately when booting up my MacBook pro is now asking me to choose my login or guest login even though guest login is disabled. It use to only ask for my password on login
I've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....
I have 12 different icons in my toolbar. 11 of them are useful. Of course the one I don't want, is the only one I don't know how to turn off. Why must apple scatter the option for "show in toolbar" across the system prefrences labrynth? How do I get rid of the device sync icon?
I have a WD Passport. I installed the latest firmware, and smartware software, in the hope I could remove that dratted "VCD" icon from popping up each time I connect the smartware drive. The smartware software allowed me to change the settings so that I could disable the drive.
Now I no longer need the software, but the it seems to have installed a "quick view" icon on the task bar! (near the clock / date etc).
I looked in "Login Items", but it doesn't seem to start anyprogram on startup, and I can't drag it off the task bar.
How can I remove this? There doesn't seem to be any setting within Smartware to remove this. Curse you Smartware!
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Having difficulty removing my guest account. I've gone to system preferences and unchecked the guest account but it still appears upon computer boot up as an option. I want it completely off and not showing on the screen when turned on.
I am trying to remove a status icon for an application I uninstalled. When I try to drag it, nothing happens, so removing it by the "command"key & drag method isn't effective. Is there another way I can get rid of it?
When I upgraded to 10.5.2 a .Mac icon was placed in the menu bar. I don't use .Mac so I'd like to get rid of it but I can't figure out how. Every other icon in the menu bar can be removed/changed via System Preferences except for the .Mac one as far as I can tell.
I had to install RayV and now that I do not need it I would like to get rid of it. I removed it under system preferences at the bottom but I cannot seem to get rid of the icon on the menu bar. I cannot drag it out and am stumped at what to do. I even manually removed the plugins from the library.
I have on the top of the screen of my mac a sign from the previous Mobileme that indicates that "no devices syncing".
How can I remove this icon from there?
When I add or edit a contact on my macbook, it doesn't update it on my iphone. It does update my macbook when editing a contacts on my iphone. Where it need to be set?
I was playing around with a .mac trial account and got the iDisk icon on my desktop. When I try to drag it to the trash bin the trash bin changes and says eject, but nothing happens when I release the mouse. It seems that there is no way for me to delete this icon.
Is there anyway I can remove an application icon from the dock, even when the app is open? This particular app has an icon on the menu bar and I don't need it to be on both.
I am new to Mac and need some help. I just installed norton antivirus for my mac and the software accidentally created duplicate icons in the top right control panel. I am wanting to delete one of these but haven't been successful. I already tried the command and drag off but they don't move, they are stuck there. Any remedies to this? How can I get them off the top right control panel?
I recently installed iFlicks, which seemed to install some Scripts into Itunes and add this menu option. I have since removed iFlicks using appzapper, yet it has not been removed. I also looked in library/iTunes/ and found no folder with scripts or anything similar. My last attempt has been to install iFlicks again and uninstall, but to no avail.
I just installed Symantec Anti-Virus and it automatically puts an ugly icon in the menu bar. I already have a few things up there that i like/need and don't want the symantec button, but symantec doesn't give me the option to not display the button in the menu bar.
I would like to know if there is a way to override this? I would really appreciate being able to get rid of that little button.
