MacBook Pro :: How To Completely Remove A Guest Account
Mar 19, 2012
Having difficulty removing my guest account. I've gone to system preferences and unchecked the guest account but it still appears upon computer boot up as an option. I want it completely off and not showing on the screen when turned on.
I went to the account tab in preferences but I don't see the guest account. did this change with Snow Leopard. I want to take the guest account off my laptop.
I've tried all the different methods I can find of deleting/mark as hidden but I keep getting annoying weekly updates come through. I don't like the game and will never play it but it seems without starting a new Apple ID and losing everything I have paid for on iPhone and Mac. I am stuck with a continual App Store badge icon for a game I don't want.

I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009..After my 2 year old had a tantrum and threw a toy at my Mac which unfortunately had a drink next to it-with a consequential spillage-my MacBook is rebelling.
Issue: keys Cap lock, R and 4 do not work and Mac boots only in safe mode. Account is pw protected-my pw begins with R and have no guest a/c active. Do i need a new keyboard or is there a cheaper way?
I've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....
I am considering having a roommate move in and letting them use my Mac. If I create them a guest account can I ensure that my e-mail and files will be secure by having this second account, or is there another way to accomplish this?
I just bought my first macbook pro 15" retina display, i already set up the speed of mouse under my acct now i am trying to do the same for the guest acct which I've done it but every time i log out and log back in the speed of the mouse under the guest acct goes back to the way it was before! how can i make it stay?
My question for the day: how to keep the setting for guest account, without download anything, & simple? I found this link, it's confusing, for woman [URL]
I already disabled the account in preferences. I don't want any of my message logs to be on my Mac and I do not know how to remove them. I tried this: Quit out of Messages for MacHit Command+Shift+G to bring up the “Go To Folder” windowEnter ~/Library/Messages/Select all files in the Messages directory and move to trash, files will be named chat.db, chat.db-shm, chat.db-wal, etcEmpty the Trash and relaunch iMessages This didn't work.
How can I completely remove an old non-functional McAfee virus protection app from my MacBook Pro? It seems that a ghost of it still appears at the top of the screen on the upper menu bar. I'm thinking that there may be other (hidden) components that could safely be removed too.
When I turn on my computer, it shows that a guest could get onto the internet without a password. I don't want this to happen. I tried disabling the guest account from the settings but it still shows up.
I've recently activated the default guest account in leopard. However even though when I check in the accounts.prefpane it says that it is on and its 'login only' and when I click on the account it says 'allow guests to login into this computer' and its on. However when I boot up my machine and click on the guest icon, it wont let me in as it shakes the menu (login failed).
So I'm using bootcamp to load up windows, but now I have run out of room on my Mac partition. I still have 30GB on my windows partition, and I haven't even used it ONCE! Honestly at this point I don't think I will ever need it....
But so my questions is, would there be any way to remove the windows partition completely without damaging my Mac side to allow for more storage? Or maybe just shrink the windows partition so that I can free up an extra 20GB or so?
I really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides. I just got my first Macbook Pro, about a year old running Leopard, part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ). I am getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.
Two questions however: 1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank. 2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles). Is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? For instance, I know it wipes everything on close. I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?. Or running the initial safari video).
I have a guest acc on leopard and I had parental control on it and earlier I saw the logs in parental control panel on system preferences I just wanna know how do u clear the logs? Where do I delete them? Can I delete them using the admin acc?
I recently restarted my imac from shut down and it went straight to the guest account. I've also noticed that the dock is empty except for Finder and two other folders. Did something happen during the shutdown process?
Although audio is present in the administrator's account, there is no audio in the guest account. There was guest account audio before today, but something has happened to remove audio.

After creating a guest account I noticed that anyone uses that account can use my (remembered) secured network connection. Normally, in my network settings, remembering used networks option is checked. When I look into the keychain, I see two entries for my network name. One is in my logins section and the other is in the system section. I suppose, the guest uses the entry which is in the system section. If I delete the entry which is in system section, it is been created again on next connection.
If I do not want any guest to use my network connection, I am having to cancel the remembering used network option and select disconnect on logging out option in airport advanced settings. But; if do this, I am having to select my network and type its password every time I login. I simply want if a guest uses the Guest Account, he wouldn't able to use my network connection without entering the correct password. Is it possible?
I have a MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.5.7 When i turned on my laptop, the guest account was active and i could login to it. However my own personal admin account was not found on the startup screen. Just the guess account. This occurred overnight. WHERE IS MY ACCOUNT!?
I am new to the Mac OS world as I only got a mac one week ago. I'm learning lots of new stuff everyday but can't seem to figure out how to make my applications show up at the Guest Account Dock or even at the Applications folder for that matter. I got Microsoft Office for Mac and it works fine and all on my User account (admin) but i cant make it show up at the applications folder or at the dock so when someone borrows my laptop for some office editing they have to be logged on my account. Is there a way to customize the applications that show up on Guest Accounts?
New Mac Mini 2009, Apps, user and settings imported from a G4 Cube running Leopard perfectly. When I go to System Prefs - Accounts - Guest and I mark the checkbox "Allow Guests connect to this computer" System Prefs freezes with rainbow pizza. Then, no matter if I kill the application or not, the system is death. If I launch new apps from the dock, they bounce a four five times and then stop but the applications don't launch. Not even I can restart. When all the applications closes the system starts a loop of spinning clock wheel - blue screen - clock wheel - blue screen forever. This is the second new Mac that has the same exact problem after importing all my data, and it's 100% reproducible. I returned the first one to Apple cause I thought it was a hardware failure. What I have done?
Repair permissions and diks Reinstall the system Create a test user and try from there Try from root user System log when I click the guest box: System log after checking Guest User Access:......................
I have to have someone use my macbook and I have created a guest account. I want to limit the documents that they can view. Basically I want to keep them out of my financial information.
Does anyone know if this recipe for customizing your Mac's Guest Account works under Snow Leopard? It would be great to have tips from people who have done this under Snow Leopard.
