Newly installed osx lion 10.7.4the guest user on the login screen disappeared after fresh installation of osx, and an option "Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked" on "security & privacy" on preferences panel disappeared as well, its so strange!

(Aug. 21, 2014)I just updated to OS-X Maverick 10.9.4, and now I get a guest user option at login. I never saw this before and didn't change any settings.

unable to view user login in OS X Lion 10.7.3 startup. I had made some changes in icloud settings & by mistake must have checked some option related to username & password. Also when i turn my macbook pro on, i can see the grey background with apple logo, however it does not show my image & login password space. thus i'm unable login to my system.

I purchased App for MacBook. It is alternative to lock screen.
I set password etc followed instructions (no need of lecture me) and it has locked me out of my MacBook and the password I set up does not work...

I am relatively new to MAC OS X (Snow Leopard) and Unix. I need to run my remote control software upon system start-up before user login. I know how to set a program to run AFTER a user logs in but this doesn't do me any good. For example: Right now I am using LogMeIn Remote Control Software. When I boot OS X the LogMeIn software is already running in the background at the user login screen before any user has even logged in.
I want to stop using LogMeIn and switch to TeamViewer but the TeamViewer software only runs after I have logged in. I need it to run at the user login screen before I have actually logged in so that when I reboot my computer or switch back and forth from Windows XP I can login remotely, just like with LogMeIn. With LogMeIn after a re-boot I the user login & password screen is sitting there waiting for me (or any user) to login. Is what I want to do even possible?
When I turn on my computer, it shows that a guest could get onto the internet without a password. I don't want this to happen. I tried disabling the guest account from the settings but it still shows up.

I would like to be able to configure what applications start when it's logged on using the guest account. For normal accounts you would use the login items option in Users and Groups but this option is not available for the Guest user.
I saw this thread from 2010 - [URL] so downloaded the server admin tools for 10.7.2 but the guest account didn't appear in the user list so I presume this has been changed again since Snow Leopard.

I just noticed that on my login screen, "Guest" appears even though it is disabled. I have not tried to run it, but when I do click on it I get the message that the computer will reboot into the "Guest" mode. I stopped at that point. This can't be normal.

I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.
The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.
Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!
So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.
The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?

I would like to reformat my previously partitioned startup drive into a single partition. (G4 dual 533 running OS 10.4.11) I have carbon-cloned the startup drive contents to an external fire-wire drive which I hope to re-transfer back after reformatting my original drive into a single partition. I have designated the fire-wire drive to be the new startup disc.

Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

I just migrated my old MacBook running Snow Leopard to my new MacBook running Lion. After successfully migrating, I am presented with a login for "Guest" only. That is the only account available to me for some reason. When I try to enter every password I can think of, I am given the password hint "guest". Entering that does not work. I've tried the usual Apple public passwords too. What is going on here? What happened to my migrated user account? I went through the entire setup configuration of Lion and even entered and submitted my personal data to Apple for registration. I just say, not impressed with Lion so far ...
View 12 Replies View RelatedA machine we have has 4-5 user accounts on it. The login screen GUI just has one user visible and I can't figure out how to log with my user ID and password. There aren't many places to click & I've tried pretty much every thing I can think of to log in as a different user. Am I missing anything obvious? Is there a chance that only certain accounts are enabled for logging in after a reboot?
