Apr 5, 2012I have a Macbook Pro OSX Lion. Iphoto and garageband was preinstalled. When I will update it, there is a dialogue box that appears "We could not complete your purchase, product distribution file could not be verified." So I put it in the trash and went to appstore to reinstall again, but it won't. I don't have those two apps for now.

Jun 26, 2012Completed a clean install of Lion on 2009 IMac and thanks to some help from the Community was able to reinstall Aperture, Logic Express and Final Cut Express, which were supplied on DVD with the original purchase of the IMac (the computer came with these softwares pre-installed). But what do I do about iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie? Oddly, Lion doesn't include these, even though they were included with the initial computer purchase. The App Store wants to charge me for these, and my only option so far is to drag a copy (in this case GarageBand) from my backup drive, which generated a "Instrument Library in invalid!" error.

Apr 27, 2012I did the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion. I've been having random issues like it seems to go to sleep (all monitors go black) and when I close the lid; the light goes on (but doesn't blink like normal sleep). Or during wake-up from sleep, after everything appears, it does the same thing. The only thing I can do it hold down the power button, wait, and restart. Today I'm on my 4 1/2 crash/reboot. (.5 because during a reboot, it locked up again.) I was thinking that maybe a re-install might fix something, but I'm not sure. When I originally did the upgrade, I had a DisplayLink driver installed which Lion moved to the Unsupported folder; don't know if this is part of my problem or not.Â

OS X :: Startup Disk Full After ITunes Updates
Dec 31, 2010I have a problem with my macbook (OS X Snow Leopard) that just occurred today:
I ran a few itunes updates (amongst others a 1.6 GB navi software) and my startup disk turned out to be almost full. I tried to solve the problem by shifting movies and music to an external hard drive but suddenly my mac froze and I had to restart.
Since this moment, when logging in a am informed that I need to free disk space (Start up disk is full) but this is not possible because my dock is missing and all I get is a blank desktop (no clock, WLAN, Battery symbols in the upper right corner). All I can do is access safari and Qucktime over the recent items list and open preferences (They can still play movies and surf the web). The apple Logo in the upper left corner is still there, allowing access to the basic commands like shut down, log out, etc.
I tried rebooting with the OSX disc to access disk utility, ran disk restore and disk verify. Everything seems to be allright, I just can't erase data and free up space. The terminal commands don't work either, all I'm being given is this command line: -bash-3.2#. Any command I enter is "unknown".

Jun 16, 2012I keep getting error messages saying my startup disk is full, so I delete a bunch of things, look in about this Mac, it says I have multiple GB available and then over time they disappear and I get the error message again. earlier today I had 8 GB, they all disappeared, so I deleted a big iphoto album and got a new 13 GB, now 45 minutes later it is down to 10GB....

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Missing Disk Space And No Usb Startup
May 16, 2012I have a white macBook (10.7.3, 250g HD) which has begun to behave in an odd way and which I have so far failed to resolve.Â
First I got a message saying very little disk space left - only 420MB which is strange because I knew the HD to be far from full. The beach ball gave me very little access to the Finder but I was eventually able to empty safari cache which gave me 6Gb. Â
Checking the root disk folder sizes showed that only 130gb was listed in the various folders but the status bar showed that only 6gb out of 250gb was available. I tried to start up from an external USB disk (no Firewire on this machine, sadly) but the laptop refused to starup from it - tried cable in both USB ports, disk is GUID formatted. I shut down the computer - had to force shutdown with power key as unresponsive to Finder command.Â
On restarting I got a message about forced shutdown etc but status bar now says 40gb available (when there should be over 100gb). I was able to select external USB drive in Startup preferences but machine will not startup ffrom external drive.Â
Disk Utility reports no problems with internal drive. I want to use Disk Warrior but cannot find cd, hence attempt to startup from external drive. Cannot even check disk while running DW from internal disk as it says prefs file corrupted or write protected. Trashing it (as suggested) makes no difference as new prefs file still unusable.Â
I have a TM backup but don't really want to use it if it is likely to have the same corruption.Also, why is the USB disk not starting up the Machine? Only thing I can think of is to do an archive/install of Lion, but is the bloating in the system or are ther some hidden files somewhere which won't be changed?

I checked my storage in the about this mac window. 49.72GB of my HD space is taken up by Other. Also in Disk Utility under the partition almost the entire rectangle is light blue. I am worried that my MacBook is to old to run the software. I use my machine to run Adobe CS4. The error turns up when I run Photoshop so I am unable to run the program at all.Â

Apr 17, 2012I have a new MacBook Air running Lion. Every time I use my backup software, it changes the permissions on my external drives, and I have to change them from read only to read & write, so I've gotten in that habit. At one point, I noticed that the permissions on my internal *startup disc* were read only, so I (foolishly, I now know) changed the permissions on the startup disc to read & write, with apply to all enclosed items checked. As I continued working, I got messages that a number of extensions could not be used and will be disabled (or something like that). I decided to reboot, so the computer could reset and hopefully correct things.
When I tried to boot, it hung up on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning clock/gear. I let it spin for a while, then forced power down and tried to boot in safe mode. The progress bar appeared as it's supposed to, but when the progress bar finished, it went back to the grey screen and hung up again. I let it spin for over 40 minutes before powering down, just in case it was doing diagnostics or something. I don't have access to the original OS DVD (nor do I have an optical drive to put it in). Any way for getting the computer to boot, at least in safe mode?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Expand The Size Of Startup Disk With A FW800 External Drive?
Jun 2, 2012I wasn't sure if it wouls be a bad idea if I wiped the interal hard drive while I'm booting from a recovery disk, then made a RAID 0 with the internal drive and my FW800 external drive. I'm nearing my max for the internal drive. I have a second FW400 drive backing up with Time Machine. I was hoping to just wipe, make the raid volume, and then restore from the Time Machine backup.Â
I guess even before that, my FW800 is not working in Lion. I reformatted while connected by USB, reset power management, and reset PRAM, but the firewire bus panics and takes out the Time Machine on FW400 as well. Is there a fix for this somewhere that I'm missing? I bought the FW800 drive for the above reason, only to run into a wall trying to make it work. I really don't want to do a RAID 0 with a USB connection.Â
I'm not going to try setting up the RAID 0 until I get the FW800 drive working reliably, but I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone.Â

OS X Mountain Lion :: Startup Disk Not There When Reinstalling (Early 2013 MBP Retina)
Sep 10, 2014I had reinstalled the OSX on my MBP a few times so I am not unfamiliar with the process of rebooting from the boot menu, formatting via the disk utility and then reinstalling either via a backup or from the internet backup (as the retina does not have a dvd drive). Doing it this time and I did nothing different, however upon entering the disk utility screen, the main disk image simply wasn't there. I was conducting a reinstall of OSX from the internet and had already downloaded the new software, as you have to do when installing from the internet.
I then came to the disk utility screen, ready to reformat the hard drive and it simply wasn't there at all. The only image there was the one I had just downloaded ready to install. Thinking this extremely strange, I reboot the computer and it takes ages, then comes to a screen with a continually flashing folder symbol with a question mark in it. I have left it like this for 30 mins with no change. So now, I cannot boot normally, and I cannot reinstall a downloaded image on the main SSD because it is not showing at all in the disk utility. I have plugged in an external hard drive and am currently installing a new image on this to try to check where the main hard drive is once it is up and running. As mentioned, it is an early 2013 MBP retina, the warranty is up so cannot take it back to apple.

Apr 9, 2012Moved all my movies audio etc and stored on external HDD, but as I have lion and time machine it saved a local back up so that when time machine was synced it didn't miss anything.Seems sensible, so next step was to sync time machine, expecting that the local back up would disappear when it shifted to TM. It didn't...why in gods green earth is the local back up there even though TM connected the whole time and up to date? Â I've restarted, loaded all updates and verified disk. How do I get to the "it just works" part without having to Delete this double up (32GB "backups") via terminal etc....
