MacBook Pro :: 1 Hour Phone Call, 2 Hour Drive To Store?

Jul 11, 2009

So my MBP 13" 2.26ghz worked up until the firmware update was installed, and then everything froze up and it took about 15 minutes to boot up, 5 minutes to shut down. So i called apple, and after a 1 hour phone call, they told me that i could get it replaced. I live an hours drive from the nearest apple store, and will have to drive up there to get it replaced, do you think i could ask for some kind of compensation for my problems, and having to drive 4 hours (2 to buy it the first time, 2 more to get it replace) to take care of the problem.

Do you think I could ask for the 2.53ghz model, or an apple/itunes gift card. or Should i even ask for anything, i mean i paid 1200 for this computer, and after 3 hours of owning it is not useable, and now i have to spend all this time trying to get it replaced.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Boots Into Wrong HD

May 26, 2012

I have my Mac Pro set up to boot at a certain time every morning using the energy saver schedule feature. I have  also set a disk I've named "Lion HD" as my startup disk. I also have a disk named "Lion HD back up" which is an exact bootable clone created with "super duper". Every now & then the computer boots into the Lion backup rather than the Lion HD. Any ideas why this happens & what I can do to fix it?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mac Pro Always Boots To Recovery Partition?

May 15, 2012

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with 6 GB RAM and a 1 TB HD. After installing Lion, every reboot fails to work properly. Instead of simply booting the machine, it goes into the Recovery Partition and runs Disk Tools. Once in Disk Tools, I Quit, select my HD as the boot drive, and reboot again. THEN it runs the normal System off the HD. It seems a flag of some sort was left turned on that makes the machine thinks it's mid-install.

Intel Mac :: Restore Lion OS From Lion Server Time Machine Backup?

May 3, 2012

I am running a Intel Imac 2008 clean install SL then Lion upgrade, followed by Lion Server install.I have multiple home macs, and intnded the server as a way to monitor and restrict kids internet use.In short, it has changes/screwed up multiple programs, and complicated home sharing issues considerably. Mail on the server machine has permission problems (cannot send mail, unable to sign), Spotlight in mail is non-functioning, finder spotlight searches are inconsistent, etc.I want to revert to plain old Lion.

I have done disk utility/verify disk and verified/repaired permissions, and have 'fiddled' (i'm not an expert) in the keychain/certificates areas, but I think the best solution is a clean install of Lion. When I backup to TIme Machine, is there a way to pull a 'Lion' version of my disk image back, and just not upgrade to Server? I understand I can disable Server and turn off applications in Server, but it doesn't fix my buggy machine. My options are to back up my 250GB of music, 100GB of photos, 100GB of movies, etc on to external drives, and clean install and then reimport everything, but even that will probably mean I cant reinstall my single user licesnse of MS office, VMware fusion, etc that I didn't buy on the App store.

MacBook Pro :: 55% Battery Goes To 0% In 1 Hour - Is It Normal

Dec 9, 2009

All I was doing was watching Brothers & Sisters on ABC's web site... So, yes, I was using the wi-fi. I had screen brightness dimmed to about 50%, and I turned the backlight off on the keyboard... So is 1 hour normal?

I noticed the fan was running the whole time. I didn't realize watching a video online would cause the processor to heat up so much!!

I checked the CPU utilization, and definitely Safari was cranking it up there...

MacBook Pro :: One Hour To Copy 4.7 GB Files From DVD

Jun 3, 2010

So I burned a bunch of DVDs back in 2007 on my old Windows Laptop. Now I need these files again and I started copying the files form the DVD to my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it tells me it takes about an hour to copy the 4.7GB on to the Hard Disk. Is that normal? I checked several DVDs that I burned back in 2007 and they all say it takes at least an hour. I tried to stream a 700MB movie from the DVD... didn't work... too slow. I just turned on my old Windows laptop where I burned the DVDs from and there it works without a problem. Movies streams straight away and if I copy all the files it takes about 10-20 minutes. So what's the deal with the built in DVD drive of my MacBook Pro? I need to copy content of 10 DVDs onto my MacBook and I don't really feel like waiting 10 hours

MacBook Pro :: Yosemite Hangs After An Hour

Dec 11, 2014

URL....I had a troublesome upgrade to Yosemite on my 2010 MBP with a custom 128 GB SSD installed. I had to abort installation and then recovered from that by reinstalling OSX via recovery mode. Now everything works fine except for the fact that the system freezes (spinning beach ball, can move windows, cannot access force quit or change focus) consistently one hour after boot. Even after several hours nothing happens and the only option is to hard reset. Booting in safe mode has the same effect.

any problems in the system logs, and after a forced restart, no crash report is generated. I don't know what happened for the user in the linked thread, but our issues seem quite similar - what could this be? Some kind of daemon blocking after one hour?

I entered it and I seen the blue desktop screen, than back to the password box. I entered my password 3-4 times.. it did the same thing. I pressed and hold the power button. Turned it off then back on. Again my outlook file under windows xp in parallels is corrupt.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Pro Fully Charges In An Hour?

Jul 14, 2009

I upgraded from my old 13" Uni macbook to the 13" pro and I have not been impressed with the battery power. I get about 4 hours with half brightness, wifi on and light web browsing. Yes, i have checked activity monitor, CPU hangs at like 5% the whole time...Does this sound right? Furthermore, the battery will charge from 5%-10% to fully charged in little more than hour, like 1:15..that seems like an awfully short time to fully charge such a big battery...

Coco Battery reports only 1-2% wear with just a few cycles. I have conditioned the battery to no effect.

Applications :: Numbers - Formula To Calculate Pay Per Hour / Day

Mar 23, 2010

I'm an independent contractor and keep track of my hours worked & amount paid for the year in numbers, and thus far its working Great! However, I'm attempting to figure out how much my "pay per hour, per day" is, and need am wondering if there is an easier way to do this.

My spreadsheet is setup like the following:
Rows = Days worked
Column F = Time worked
Column G = Amount paid.

So to figure out how much I made "per hour per day", I simply take Column G divided by Column F for each day. However, I'm currently manually entering this script into each row, and given that I worked over 200 days last year(i.e. I manually enter in row 1 =SUM(G1)/(F1); row 2 =SUM(G2)/(F2), etc.

Is there an easier way to do this? Is there a way to sequentially apply scripts, so instead of manually entering G2/F2, it will automatically apply the =Sum G / F's of that row? I'm on numbers 08

MacBook Pro :: 5 Hour Battery Time Is Normal ?

When I first turned on the MBP I charged it to 100% and then discharged it down to 0. Is this battery life normal? What happened to 8-9 hours with wifi and web browsing? I can't even get 7 hours with everything off!

Intel Mac :: Connection To The Internet Drops Every Hour?

Apr 14, 2012

My iMac is connected to the internet wirelessly.

Every hour (or even more often), I get the message "Safari cannot connect to the Internet", followed by a prompt to run diagnostics. I run the diagnostics, re-select my network (provided via BT Hub) and pronto - the issue is fixed, by why does the connection drop so often. Surely this can't be right - I can't be doing that every time I want to go online.

Interestingly, my iPad (which uses the same network and Safari) never drops the connection, so it is something to do with the iMac.
