So from what I understand my 2 month old MBP is supposed to have a 10 hour battery which is a stretch! I would say 5 hour battery at best, which is great and I am not complaining but 10 hour eh? Is that while the computer is sleeping?
View 24 RepliesI was under the impression that starting with the mid 2009 macbook pros you were not supposed to calibrate the built in battery when you bought it. In fact I looked in the 2010 macbook pro manual and unlike the previous macbook pros it does not say to calibrate the battery.

I noticed the fan was running the whole time. I didn't realize watching a video online would cause the processor to heat up so much!!
I checked the CPU utilization, and definitely Safari was cranking it up there...
I know that the 13" MacBook Pro supposedly gets '7-hour battery' life, but does it really? If any of you have the 13" MBP, how much battery life do you get with yours?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy new MBP has 5 hours of battery when doing light web browsing at medium brightness. Only 2-3 hours when playing low res youtube clips, and 6:45 hours with all apps and wifi turned off and screen brightness at minimum.
When I first turned on the MBP I charged it to 100% and then discharged it down to 0. Is this battery life normal? What happened to 8-9 hours with wifi and web browsing? I can't even get 7 hours with everything off!
My Macbook air only works for 2 1/2 hour at the battery, should be at least 5 hours?

I haven't been able to find out an answer for this. I bought a MB467LL/A model Macbook (2.4ghz previous unibody version that became the Macbook pro). Local store had them on closeout and it was a hot deal. Anyway, it was brand new and had a 0% battery when I brought it home. It's been about 12 hours and still isn't quite charged fully. Almost though.
Is this normal for a brand new battery? I can't imagine it usually takes 12 hours to fully charge the battery. I've never had a computer ship with a dead battery before so I'm wondering if it was bad or simply that's how they come now a days.
Could you somehow put the 8-hour battery of recent macbook models, into the macbook book late 2008 model?

I contacted Apple, who got me to a 'battery specialist,' who asked me to send in my system profile. A new battery was authorized, based on the fact that my battery didn't seem to be reaching capacity (or something to that effect).

This morning I at 0745am, but now its 0831 and my battery is now at 53%; is there something wrong? I took a stopwatch and averaged it at about 53-55 seconds where the battery will drop 1%.
According to coconut battery, current battery capacity is 4670 and original battery capacity is 5090, and the system profiler says that I'm at 31 charge cycles. And YES, i've reset the PRAM, PMU/SMC, and calibrated my battery
My MacBook pro's battery life has really gone down hill. I bought a battery in September '09 and rarely used it. Recently I put it in because my original battery supposidly does not hold a charge. Now it only gets a hour when last week it got 4! What happened? What is wrong with my computer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my MBP 13" 2.26ghz worked up until the firmware update was installed, and then everything froze up and it took about 15 minutes to boot up, 5 minutes to shut down. So i called apple, and after a 1 hour phone call, they told me that i could get it replaced. I live an hours drive from the nearest apple store, and will have to drive up there to get it replaced, do you think i could ask for some kind of compensation for my problems, and having to drive 4 hours (2 to buy it the first time, 2 more to get it replace) to take care of the problem.
Do you think I could ask for the 2.53ghz model, or an apple/itunes gift card. or Should i even ask for anything, i mean i paid 1200 for this computer, and after 3 hours of owning it is not useable, and now i have to spend all this time trying to get it replaced.
I am seriously considering purchasing one of the new unibody MBP's with the new "7 hour" battery. Just a couple quick questions for you all: Do you get 7 hours when you turn wifi off, the screen down to 1/3 brightness, don't use the CD drive/etc, or does it actually last 6-7 hours in normal use (surfing web, screen really bright, backlit keyboard on)? Has anyone experienced a degradation in battery life after a bunch of cycles? I notice apple claims that the new battery will last 5 years, yet they don't warranty it for more than a year. That does not sound good to me. Opinions?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI am unable to access a medical website I go to for diabetes monitoring. I have had this problem before. When I access the site the java icon displays and is cycling, then times out. I checked for Macbook updates last evening and installed updates. I searched for Java for Mac 10.6 and installed that. Tonight I figured out how to clear my java cache. Still cannot access the site. I've spent probably 6 hours trying to figure this out - no luck. I had exact same issue in November and was able to fix it by reinstalling Java.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a periodic problem where my network will timeout. Once that happens, I'm unable to connect to the network again by choosing the network. When I run the diagnostic, only the Wi-fi light is green. If I use the assistance, it tells me the password is incorrect even when I know it's correct. I will always connect for a second or two before timing out or being told the password is incorrect. If I purposefully type the password wrong, I'm immediately told it's wrong without the hesitation of connecting for a second. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on? I eventually get connected but only after going through a laborious process of either created a new network or deleted all the Wi-fi information. Even then, the process is temporary.

Is it supposed to snap in as well as screw in when putting it back onto the computer? When I upgraded my HDD I thought I remembered seeing in a tutorial video that the back panel was supposed to snap shut before screwing it in. Am I missing something or am I totally wong here?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell for the last year I have been having problems with my DSL Internet, everyone once in a while (it accually happened when I was typing this post ), the internet will just go out, I will get no response and the internet light on my modem with go out, when it goes out it stays out for about 28 seconds, most of the time its about 28 seconds exactly but sometimes it can go out for 10 seconds and other times I can go out for a few mins.
I really don't know what to do, I got Verizon to send me a new modem, I replaced all my filters, and I replaced the phone line into the modem. I called Verizon but I can't recreate the problem for them so they won't send anyone out, last time I called them the girl on the line said it would be a good idea to send someone out then asked me if I had any other problems then hung up .
Do you guys have any ideas about what could be causing this?
On startup the WiFi connection symbol initially is full and black and then goes grey with in a few seconds. If I click the WiFi symbol the drop down menu shows my WiFi network which I click put in WEP code but then I get a message after a few seconds that the connection has timed out. All other Macs in the house connect to the WiFi fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a web designer, I got my first mac a few months ago and its a lot easier to get my work done now! I register my domain names via Godaddy.com and things have been fine until a few weeks ago, I started work on 2 new websites at 10am this morning, it is now 16:04 and I still have not managed to register the domains! The godaddy website keeps timing out, it works fine on my partners windows laptop, but it times out nearly every time on my Mac Mini, this is both on Firefox and safari.
Normally if I restart my mac and it will let me register the domains after a few refreshing of the pages. Or sometimes when it keeps timing out in firefox I try in safari and it works for a bit. But today neither of them are working, I got right to the payment page and it wont let me go any further, it just keeps timing out on me. I have cleared my cache a few times and that hasn't made a difference.
now having switched to Leopard, I bought an external hard drive in order to use time machine. Unfortunately, every time the hard disk is touched (once per hour for the backup and still once per hour for a reason I do not know -- and every time I turn my mac on --), the hard disk stays spinning noisily for 15 minutes. could change the hdd sleep timing settings. I would like to set it to 5 minutes or so.

2.) Save it to computer and then open it up in Photoshop
3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:
Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best
Using a stop watch / ps timer see how long it takes to apply this filter. I just want to see what mac systems can do, be it a powermac dual 2.7 or an older dual 1.8 or even an ibook. Please list your mac system, cpu details, amount of ram and the time it took for the test, just so we can get an idea of how different mac machines handle this task.
About every hour or two, my Macbook Air freezes. It will slow to a crawl, where the cursor moves very slow, then it will freeze.

I have a D-link router with cable internet, two MacBooks that are constantly running up against the wifi dropping out (>< * and at the most inconvenient times!). A couple months ago I managed to limit the router to one channel and it seemed to fix the problem to a degree. Its become increasingly problematic recently and I folded the last pair of Kings because of a crappy wifi link up. After looking around a bit I think I may be able to finally put to use the Airport Express I bought back in 2005 as one writer commented that the installation of that would fix the drop outs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I burned a bunch of DVDs back in 2007 on my old Windows Laptop. Now I need these files again and I started copying the files form the DVD to my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it tells me it takes about an hour to copy the 4.7GB on to the Hard Disk. Is that normal? I checked several DVDs that I burned back in 2007 and they all say it takes at least an hour. I tried to stream a 700MB movie from the DVD... didn't work... too slow. I just turned on my old Windows laptop where I burned the DVDs from and there it works without a problem. Movies streams straight away and if I copy all the files it takes about 10-20 minutes. So what's the deal with the built in DVD drive of my MacBook Pro? I need to copy content of 10 DVDs onto my MacBook and I don't really feel like waiting 10 hours
