OS X V10.7 Lion :: Get Preview To Only Initiate A Search After Have Fully Typed In The Word Or Phrase?

Jun 30, 2012

How can I get Preview to only initiate a search after I have fully typed in the word or phrase. It immediately jumps into a search when I have not fully typed in the word I am searching on.  This bogs down the search and stalls my ability to type the phrase into the search box.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: TextEdit Keep Loosing What I Typed

Jun 15, 2012

I just lost a whole hours worth of research. I was typing in text edit and then it started making me duplicate the file at every save and then I had to replace the orginal, and I did this several times until I finally decided to close it down (as it's done this before) and when I opened it up again a whole hours worth of research was missing. I clicked on the Restore button but it hadn't saved any of my research for over an hour.

Is there another way to get that restored?

Software :: Exporting Search Results From PDF In Preview?

Dec 4, 2009

My question is about "Preview". I have a very large PDF document that I am using preview to view. After doing a search for a specific word, preview has returned 1200 results. The results panel shows the page number the result is found on and the line of text on which the searched-for-word is found. My question is this: Is there a way to export this information from preview to something like an excel file? The end result would look like a table with two columns. One with the page numbers and one with the line of text in which the word appears.

OS X Mavericks :: Search Feature On Preview Disabled After Annotating

Jun 20, 2014

Running Preview 7.0, upon opening a PDF I am able to perfectly use the built-in search feature to search text made readable by OCR. After adding a text-box/annotating within the document, however, the search feature is messed up: the document will return matching hits for my term, but they aren't highlighted within the document body and I get the "funk" alert noise when clicking on results in left-hand results column.

Attempted fix: Printed the document as PDF.  Searching this document only will return results if text that I search was typed in one of the text boxes I added.

MacBook Pro :: Can Customize Phrase Like On Old Powerbooks

Dec 23, 2010

My first mac was the last version of Powerbooks that were made in 2005. On it, I was able to set a phrase that whispered "Sharina, you are now running on reserve battery power." I absolutely loved it and it always freaked people out. I have read that other people were setting custom phrases like this as well.I was wondering if my brand spanking shiny new Macbook Pro i7 purchased in last month can do the same thing.. New macbook is Snow Leopard while old powerbook was probably Tiger.

OS X :: External Hard Drive Is Asking To Initiate?

Apr 15, 2009

My mac has been acting very weird since i installed leopard and ilife 3 weeks ago.

1. Running slow (taking a long time to open programs)

2. Sometimes when i click on my external drive icon its empty.

3. Grey screeen comes on telling me to restart.

4. Starts making a loud fan noise when i leave it on for a over 24hrs.

Then this morning i turned it on to copy a file to my jumpdrive and i click on the external (seagate 250) drive and again its no icons or anything inside.

So i go to spotlight to see if i can type in the name of the file and no file is found. But i did notice that it said "indexing"

So i waited for 3 minutes. Then i did what i always do when it starts bugging out. "restart"

After the restart it ask me would i like to initiate the disk drive or something to that affect.

Please dont tell me my external is fried. I have tons and tons of work on it.

MacBook Air :: Boot Camp Won't Initiate Install?

Oct 18, 2009

Just got my first Mac last night, MBA 2.13/128SSD. So far it's been a questionable purchase, the two things I need it to do I cannot do with Mac OS X and Safari. Need to use a digital ID for law school which won't install in safari and can't watch Real Player lectures as I cannot enter log in info. Installed Vista Ultimate using Parallels (have not tried VM Fusion) and it works but the videos lag.

I partition 10G in Boot Camp and tried to install (1st) Vista Ultimate, (2nd) XP, (3rd) XP SP2, (4th) Windows 7b, none of them worked. After I set the partition and select to install, the Mac reboots and then the gray Apple screen appears with an Apple Logo and Folder. I've searched for hours on Google and I can't find a single article that answers my question as to why this is happening and how to avoid. I realize I cannot use XP, but Vista Ultimate and XP SP2 and possibly W7 should have done something..

MacBook Pro :: Do Magsafe Adapters Only Initiate Charging After Laptop Closed

Apr 18, 2012

I purchased a replacement magsafe 85w adapter for my MacBook Pro and was wondering if the new cable requires you to have your laptop closed to initiate the charge process on your computer.I notice that if I attach it with my laptop powered on and my computer open it will not initiate a charge (light up on the cable or show the charge icon on screen). If I power down my laptop and close the lid, disconnect and reconnect the magsafe cable the light on the cable will light up and initiate the charge. I tried this also on sleep mode with the laptop closed and the light on the cable started up without disconnecting. I was able to boot up my computer and continue working and the charge continued but I had to initiate it first with the lid closed either in an off or sleep mode. Just wondering if this is the new norm as I just moved from the old "T" style magsafe to the new "L" style magsafe.

App Store :: Sign In Sheet Does Not Appear / Or Does Not Accept Typed Text

May 16, 2012

I reported the problem to Apple Support via email. but their responses were unhelpful and had no new information. The suggestion for a fee based call to Apple technical support is insulting. Why would I pay for a call to fix a problem in your portal to sell me software? Also, it is in Apple's best interest to address this; as it stands I can not upgrade to OSX Lion because it is only delivered via the App Store! Am I to throw my Mac Pro out of the window? Is this how Apple provides support to their loyal customers? How long are Apple products supported these days? When I started to use Macs (1991), they had a great reputation, because everything was backward compatible.

The life cycle of Macs has become very short indeed for a very expensive product. After 21 years I may switch to PC (can't believe I am writing this). IF I can not get a Mac that can run processor and graphics intensive tasks anymore, then I have really no choice. I am not buying a two year old Mac Pro at exorbitant prices to run Autodesk Maya (for complex and very high res rendering) when I can run the software on a PC faster and at less than half the cost.Is Apple really abandoning the professional in favor of becoming a consumer electronics company?
