OS X V10.7 Lion :: Edit Context Menu In Address Book?
Feb 24, 2012
If I open a Contact in Addres Book and click on "Home" r "Mobile", or "Work", or whatevere, a small context menu pops up, offering me several choices:Â "Show in Large Type", "Face Time", etc.Â
I recently experimented with a dialing program which I have since uninstalled, but it remains in this Context Menu. How can I edit it out?
Since I upgraded to Lion and moved to iCloud, I have not been able to edit the photos in my address book. I saw and tried lots of solutions in the discussions about this re: Snow Leopard, and none of those solutions worked -Â especially the solutions that involve going into [main hard drive]> Application Support>Address Book and so forth. There IS no folder in Application Support for Address Book. Repaired permissions and all that sort of thing.
I cannot edit contact pictures in my contacts, but only for one of my accounts.Â
I have 2 address book accounts. One private set up to sync via CardDAV to Lion Server, and one work account on Exchange 2010 SP1. Adding or editing contact photos works on my private account both on my iPhone/iPad and on my MAC. On my work account I can edit och change picture but not ADD a picture on my mac, but it works on my iPhone/iPad.Â
I'm looking for a tool that could allow me to resize (and for the full measure crop) images directly from the Finder context menu without using Automator?

my DELETE functionality within finder is not working consistently anymore. I am only seeing this issue on my new MAC BOOK AIR (used for work and received just last week), and not on my macmini (that is also running Lion and I've had for a year).Â
Basically, I am having problems deleting files using CMD + DELETE. I hit this command and get the typically apple "ping" sound for a something that isn't working, however I can right click and hit MOVE TO TRASH and it goes immediately, which means it's definitely not a file permission/in-use/lockout issue.Â
I feel like I did something stupid to cause this, but it only doesn't work occasionally. I have noticed it moreso right after I open or have used a file, but while CMD+DEL doesn't work, the MOVE TO TRASH does, so i'm lost.Â
extremely frustrated and I've been through my System Pref settings alot in case I turned something off.Â

I'm trying to edit my contacts in Address Book and all of the edit features are grayed out. New to the MAC world...kind of lost about fixing this problem.
I am trying to update my Address Book with a new email adress for one of my clents. I looks like I can't. I suspect iClould is the reason why I suddenly can't. I have been trying to do this symple task for like an hour! These computers are supposed to be simple to use.
Why can't I edit or delete Address Book cards on my Macs, now that I've migrated to iCloud? I can edit/delete if I go to iCloud, but the changes don't sync with my Macs.Just wait for Apple to fix a bug?
Address-book doesnt work after update from Snow Lepard to Lion 10.7.3 PB says your address-book is 5.0.3. PB says You have adressbook 10.5.3, yes, but now?
So with the whole Flashback/Flashfake thing I paniced (stupid on my part) ran a virus program called VirusBarrier Express and ran CCleaner (again, stupid me). Hoping I would clear off unused or harmful files I apparently in the process messed up my context menu. Items that were previously in the context menu are now gone. I did as much reading about possible fixes as I could and this is where everything stands.Â
Not every item in the image below was at the botton of the context menu, but iPack certainly was as well as various other menu items that have since dissapeared.Â
While searching the internet I came across a suggestion leading me to "library/Contextual Menu Items" and when I followed that directory for both my user and system I couldn't find a Contextual Menu Items folder. There wasn't any. I've had this "missing file/folder" problem before with preference files; just a side note.Â
I created the folder manually and restarted with no change at all.Â
Obviously I accidentally deleted something that shouldn't have been deleted. Is there any way to get back those missing items?Â
I have installed a software called appdelete but then decided to uninstall it. I did it in traditional ways but some configurations are still staying the same.
No i do not have appdelete in my comp but when i right click a file i always see AppDelete button and that is annoying.
How can i get rid off appdelete button in right click context menu ?
I have tried Onyx, CleanMyMac, clearing LaunchServices.plist and loads of other things (too many to list) but when I right click on any file, I get the same entries repeated in the open with menu. i.e. Right Click an .avi and get Open With-> VLC, Quicktime, Other... Vlc, Quicktime, Other... VLC, Quicktime, Other...
Since the installation of Yosemite, Mail context menus no longer work. Control-clicking on a hyperlink in a mail messages opens a context menu containing these items:
Selecting any of the first 3 has no effect. Just clicking on the hyperlink will switch to the browser (Safari) and open the link. Clicking on "Services" does display a list of Services, and "Open URL in Firefox" at least seems to work. However, "Open URLs in Safari Tabs" does not. This seems to indicate a possible disconnect between Mail and Safari in particular. Â

how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group. It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List." From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person. All well and good...Â
BUT...Â
Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

How would i achieve to create a context menu on a folder, just like dropbox. I tried using Services menu but it sets my menu system wide. I need to have my specific menu only for a specific folder? How to achive this functionalily?

When I select 'Enter time machine' from the context menu of the time machine icon in the menu bar at the top, nothing happens. Otherwise it works fine and does its regular updates. I can see the result on my backup drive. But how do I now restore something if I have to?
The Rename feature on the Finder Context menu has been very useful to me.Got an error message while trying to rename several folders. Now the Rename feature is missing from the Finder context menu.
OS 10.10 Yosemite, 27" iMacÂ
Just recently purchased at Thunderbolt hard drive enclosure (Akitio Thunder2 Quad enclosure) and the error happened while renaming files on the Thunderbolt drive. Now the rename feature is missing from all drives.Â
I've tried:
-rebooting -ejecting the Thunder2 quad and rebooting -power down the Thunder2 and rebooting

I must be missing something very obvious, but I can't seem to set Address Book to add all new contact info as "Work" entries. I have to edit every new entry and change all the fields from "other" to "work." This appears to happen when I "grab" phone or email info from an email message.

Control click stopped working and does not give me a contextual menu in the finder or any other program (including Stickies or Word) anymore.
I tried resetting Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences to default. I looked for Finder preference, or Finder preference file (it used to be "com.apple.finder.plist" according to an old 2005 forums.Macrumors post) but i could not find one.
I just reinstalled Leopard a couple of weeks ago, and do not want to go thru that again if i can avoid it.
I am running Address Book 5.0 on Snow Leopard on one machine, and want to share my contacts on another machine running OSX10.4.11, Address Book v4.0.....can this be done?
Address Book in Lion was working for me initially, but at some point within 10.7.2 and into 10.7.3 it began to malfunction. It shows all the addresses. If I search, it ignores this completely. If I single click on an entry, it does not show the details of that entry, but still displays the first entry details. If I double click the entry, a new windows pops up with the actual details for that entry. I have tried deleting the db and various pref files to no avail. Sync with iCloud is enabled.
My Address Book won't open on my IMAC- It worked this morning but I must have hit something to hide. I tried right click on icon and have tried - show all windows, Options, Hide and Quit. When I click "show all windows" the last address I was viewing pops-up, but once I click on the window, it immediatly disappears.
Version 6 of address book is difficult to work with and missing a few important features, especially a logical presentation in columns of groups, names and details. How can I get ver 5 back?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), I am keeping OSX 10.6.8 on my iMac
