I have upgraded to Lion so that I can use iCloud.when I select a contact in the address book, I can't tell what account it is in,
and I can't change the contact to iCloud if it's not already in that account, so the
contact comes up on my other devices. This seems like a very basic function, yet if I want a contact to be on iCloud, it seems I have to create a new contact with iCloud selected in the preferences.
is there another way?

I have a contact for my mom which used to be her first name and last name which I later changed to just "Mom" in the first name box after getting an iPhone. At the same time I started syncing with MobileMe and have been having this problem for about 2 years. Every time I send her an email it changes her name from just Mom to Mom and then adds her last name back into the last name field.

When I right click and choose 'add contact to address book' from within Apple mail, it adds the contact to the 'On My Mac' address book file. I want it to add the contact to a different address book. Is there a way to designate a specific default address book?

I have 2 address book accounts. One private set up to sync via CardDAV to Lion Server, and one work account on Exchange 2010 SP1. Adding or editing contact photos works on my private account both on my iPhone/iPad and on my MAC. On my work account I can edit och change picture but not ADD a picture on my mac, but it works on my iPhone/iPad.Â

My sister has former eMail addresses which are no longer functional. They are NOT in the Address Book app. Yet one of them always comes up as the default. Yes, her current address is already in the Address Book app. I'd like some way to permanently delete her two non-functional addresses from system memory.Â

I have run into a similar problem before, when Address Book stopped accepting changes to contacts altogether. I followed advice I saw on the web and deleted the .plist files for Address Book in the Preferences file in my Library. That worked like a charm. Now, that doesn't work.
I have deleted the files, restarted my computer, verified and fixed permissions using Disk Utility, and let my computer rest overnight by leaving it off. Nothing works and I've tried several combinations of order. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on a first generation Intel MacBook Pro. All software is up to date

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I make a new contact on my iPhone, my iPhone recognizes it and it syncs and everything, but if I open Address Book on my laptop, it automatically deletes any new contacts I've made. Also, the "Delete Group" and "Delete Card" options in the Edit menu are always grayed out now. Â This has become quite a serious problem as my contacts are disappearing every couple days! Is there any way to reset address book to it's previous state (of WORKING) without losing all my contacts?

I use my Mac for business for years, and until now, I've kept a Windows box to print out mailing labels.I finally got off my butt and got my contacts moved over into address book so I could just use one computer. However, when I went to print a test sheet of labels, I saw that there was no option to print the the Position of my contacts on the label...which I need to do for business.I'd prefer not having to put the "Position" into another field to get it to print, because I like to keep things organized.I'm not afraid of jumping into the Terminal if that's what it takes to get this feature added to my copy.I just need to be able to do it somehow.

how to specify which of several email addresses should be used for a member of a group. It starts by selecting the menu item "Edit > Edit Distribution List." From there it explains how to select the desired address for a specific person. All well and good...Â
BUT...Â
Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

Upon the strong suggestion by the Apple website that I change my primary email address to match my AppleID, I did. However, there are no options to configure this email account, which exists nowhere in the universe. I tried sending mail to this new email address/AppleID account from my work account, only to have it bounce back as undeliverable. On the appleid.apple.com site, there are no options to reset the AppleID's primary email address. My AppleID is now connected to an email address that doesn't exist, I can't configure, etc. etc.Â
