OS X V10.7 Lion :: Running A Buffalo Linkstation Successfully On A Network?

Jun 28, 2012

Having upgraded to OSX Lion some time ago, our Buffalo Linkstation had issues. Eventually found some well hidden Buffalo updates and patches and all was working well. Good news as it holds all of our music, photos and shared business documents. In the past coupe of weeks my wife and I have both been getting an increasing number of dialogue boxes appearing saying "Do you want the application NasNavigator2.app to accept incoming network connections?" Despite having allowed all Buffalo/NAS Navigator programmers in the firewall settings this is getting worse.I am currently getting this dialogue box pop up in batches of 5 every 15 seconds..This is making using the computer almost impossible.Having had lots of correspondence with Buffalo and none of their suggestions working, I have pinned it down to the firewall. If I turn it off (risky I know) the problem does not occur and we still have full access to the Linkstation. The issue is obviously with Lion's firewall and from the posts on the internet looks like it has been an issue with previous OSX back to 2010.

MacBook Air :: How To Connect Buffalo Linkstation And Air

May 3, 2009

I wanted to connect my Buffalo Linkstation to my Macbook Air via the Ethernet cable - as I wanted to do it direct to quickly transfer large files instead of over the network. So, I plugged in the ethernet cable from the Baffalo Linkstation into my Macbook Air using Apple's USB Ethernet Adapter cable. However, my Buffalo share drive is not showing on my desktop, and of course certainly not connecting.

OS X :: Accessing Printer Connected To Buffalo Linkstation?

Jun 29, 2010

However, there is one problem I cannot resolve, I have an HP printer connected to my Buffalo Linkstation Live NAS which works fine on my windows computers but for the life of me I cannot get my Mac to see it. It has a static IP and i've tried putting this into the printer and fax utility with no joy, also connected it directly via usb and installed the correct software and it works fine, but as soon as I try and access it over my network, no joy.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Set Login Policies For Network Users On A 2008 Mac Pro Running 10.7.3?

Feb 10, 2012

I am trying to set login policies for network users on a 2008 Mac Pro running 10.7.3 and failing miserably.  Let me start by saying that I am doing this successfully with 6 other laptops and another Mac Pro (2011 version) with absolutley zero issues. However no matter what I do I cannot seem to get this 2008 Mac Pro to work. The system in question is connected via WiFI (as are some of the other systems). I am using the mac address of the WiFI (as I am on the other systems) and have tried managing this system individually and in a group each of which fail.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Email Attachments Successfully From IMac To Pc

Apr 28, 2012

When I email a number of jpegs as attachments (from newly acquired iMac) to pc users they are unable to view them as attachments.

I have removed the auto signature and also changed to Palin Text as suggested in other threads but still no joy!

I also tried a solution suggested in another thread that involved typing something into Terminal which shows works at iMac end to show jpgs as individual attachments but there is no clip when it arrives in outlook on pc just a joined up line of thumbnails.

we regularly have to send emails with several images attached - I know you will suggest using the zip folder but many businesses block these from their systems and the folders are stripped from the email.

OS X :: Cannot Set Password For Buffalo Airstation Router

Aug 28, 2010

I reset my Buffalo Airstation WHR-G545 router (by holding the INIT button on he bottom). After plugging in the router and ethernet cable, I turned AirPort "on" on my MacBook Pro. I opened Safari and was taken to my university's Internet registration page--necessary to access the school's Internet hardwire network. I registered my account and then had signal from the router just fine, allowing me to access the Internet as usual.

HOWEVER, the network is unprotected. I have tried several times to change the name of the network from 0016014DFD1A to something else and to give it a WEP password. It never saves my modifications under the Network Profiles window.

How do I give this network a password and change its name?

OS X :: How To Find Linkstation (using IP Address) On MBA

Nov 27, 2010

I have just unpacked my new macbook air and after initially thinking I would put windows 7 on it, have decided to have a bash with the mac operating system first to see if I can get used to it. I have always used pc's so this is a big culture shock. I am 54 years old but consider myself quite techy minded, more so that my technophobe kids who always come to me when they have a problem. However I'm not sure you can teach an old dog new tricks, so to speak. I know it is frowned upon to compare with windows, and, as I said previously, I do not want my mac to be a pc, but might, at some points, refer to windows, so please be patient with me as that is all I know. I am going to trawl through all the guides at the top of the page as I'm sure they will be very informative.

I will be getting office for mac as learning a new OS is enough for me to tackle right now, and my air only has usb, no sd or dvd. I have a Buffalo linkstation with all my files etc., on and want to use it frequently for file transfer. I have downloaded NASnavigator and used 'finder' to look for it. (I am assuming 'finder' is similar to windows explorer, which is where the linkstation shows on my pc.) Should the linkstation show up automatically in the left hand menu, or do I need to click on something? Would it be under 'devices' or 'places'? (It is under neither at the mo.) I have searched and found info suggesting solutions for finding the linkstation using its IP address, but before doing this want to make sure I'm looking in the right place first.

Hardware :: Linkstation NAS Over LAN Connection

Jun 18, 2009

What I had on my iMac back at home was my iMac connecting to the internet through a wireless router. Then I had my Linkstation plugged up through the ethernet port in the back of my iMac and I could access the Share drive perfectly. Three days ago I brought my computer to the campus of Meredith college for a summer academics program. I connected to the internet here, it worked fine. But for some reason my Linkstation will not connect. When I use command k and type in the IP address of the ethernet it tells me "This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volume and files locally." The only trouble is that it does not show up under shared folders in Finder either!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Network - Can't Login To Network Macs As Registered User

Feb 20, 2012

Have recently done a clean install of Lion onto a Mac Pro that was running Snow Leopard. Upgradede to 10.7.3  The Lion Mac sits on an office network of several macs running Snow Leopard and a Network Shared HDD.  In order to gain quick full access to the other computers we have been using "connect as" then inputting the macs registerred user administrator details, we were able us access to the full Mac and it's currently mounted hard drives. Since installing Lion I can see and fully access the network share which only uses guest access, see the Other macs in finder, add to their drop boxes but not connect as a registerred user to access one of the snow Leopard machines.  I get a pop up. Spinning wheel, and eventually a timeout. Can't even cancel this action as it comes up greyed out. Oddly the other macs can still log into the Lion machine. No joy so far toggling network preferrences and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a setting I have missed, So far have had not joy looking online or playing in seeing why it would now not be able to connect as before.

OS X :: Malware/Network Activity Is Constantly Running Even Browser Closed?

Aug 15, 2010

I'm running an Intego X6 full scan right now, but something is amiss:
1. Activity Monitor shows 19 packets in/sec, 22 packets out/sec, currently at 26024 packets in and 24996 out since rebooting maybe 10 minutes ago)
2. iStat shows 4k in/out per sec
3. My router's activity light incessantly blinks
4. My router won't light up at the initial login, so the issue only happens with my current user account

When disabling all internet activity through Intego's firewall, my router also stops. Amusingly, Activity Monitor continues to show packets being sent and received. (I didn't see anything in Activity Monitor that would show me which process(es) are using the network as well...)

I can't seem to find any PID or process names out of the ordinary, but usually there should be no activity when there's no activity.

I do keep OS X updated as often as possible, but that doesn't mean something wicked this way comes...

Are there apps I can use that will tell me what process is sending these mystery packets?

Windows On Mac :: Connecting Vista (running Under VMware Fusion) To Xbox 360 On AE Network

Dec 15, 2008

I have an Airport Extreme network with an XBox 360 hooked up to it via ethernet. I would like to be able to use the XBox 360 as a media extender using the Windows Media Center running in Vista on my MacBook Pro. Vista Ultimate is running under VMware's Fusion and not as a bootcamp partition (not sure if this matters, but thought I'd mention it just in case). The MacBook Pro is using Wi-Fi (N) to connect to the Airport Extreme.

I followed the directions on the [URL] page, and all four things below that are required to be checked (given permission to run) or running as directed, yet I still get the message stating the Xbox could not be found. UPNP is indeed running.

What am I missing? Do I have to open ports on the Airport Extreme, even if the computer and xbox are on the same network? Do I have to open anything on the MacBook Pro on the Mac OS side?

OS X :: How To Successfully Remove SMC Fan Control

Aug 11, 2010

Just got back from the Apple store after an appointment at the genius bar. I went in cause my mid-2009 13in MBP's battery last less than 2 hours when running on battery. This is with the bluetooth and wifi off, brightness set halfway and only having Pages open to edit an essay. They noticed I use SmcFanControl and mentioned that that program messes with the firmware that apple sends out cause it overrides the fan control.....iono, but its what they told me. They said that its best to get rid of that program...

I currently have it running, at 2000RPM, the lowest setting I believe...with my MBP @ 127*F. Its not uncommon when on youTube, Hulu, or watching a movie in iTunes for the temp. to rise to 175*F plus...which is when the SMCFanControl speeds up the fans to 5000RPMs. Anywho, aside from being curious as to what other Mac users think about this. I'd also like to make sure I delete SMCFanControl as if it was never there. I know I can go the route of throwing SmcFanControl into AppCleaner or something but i'm hoping I don't leave any fan speed settings from FanControl even after deleting it.

PowerPC :: EMac G4 Stopped Booting Successfully

Jul 5, 2007

My girlfriend's eMac stopped booting successfully a few days ago. I thing the next step might be to reformat her hard drive ad re-install OS X, but I'm hoping there's some less drastic solution out there. I at least want to make sure I've exhausted all other options. Here's what I know: System is a G4 eMac. 1Ghz I believe (not sure). OS 10.3.9. 256MB RAM. The computer has worked flawlessly for her and her son since she acquired it several years ago. The hard disk was far from being full (around 41% used). The computer "bongs" normally, then goes on the grey screen with the Apple logo ad spinning "gears", then just sits there indefinitely. Some hard disk activity is heard at first, then silence. I started up with OS X CDs and ran DiskUtility. It reports the volume "repaired" successfully, but subsequent "verifications" still show some problems.

Started with "Option" key to see there is some bizarre startup volume selection, but as expected, the only volume shown is "Macintosh HD." Tried to start up in "safe" mode, but never saw any kind of "Safe Mode" indication. Only got as far as it ever does (grey screen, Apple logo, spinning "gears"). I started up in "verbose" mode. The last console message listed is "IP firewall loaded", and the machine just sits there. I started ip in "single user" ode, and ran 'fsck'. The result was the same as when I ran "Disk Utility." We changed the PRAM battery and reset PRAM/PMU. No effect. The computer starts up fine in "Target Disk Mode" and it looks like I can see the files on that hard disk just fine from another computer. As I said, my next step may well be reformat/install, but I want to make sure I haven't missed anything.
