May 15, 2012I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with 6 GB RAM and a 1 TB HD. After installing Lion, every reboot fails to work properly. Instead of simply booting the machine, it goes into the Recovery Partition and runs Disk Tools. Once in Disk Tools, I Quit, select my HD as the boot drive, and reboot again. THEN it runs the normal System off the HD. It seems a flag of some sort was left turned on that makes the machine thinks it's mid-install.Â

My connection is flaky, and keeping a connection for the number of hours the downloader indicates is pratically impossible. Everytime If restart the download, the installer throws away what I downloaded previously. How can the downloder be made to resume a previous download? (This is a pre-installed copy of Lion, so the App Store is not an option)

Mar 22, 2012I give up. I can't find the answer to this. So, I'll just ask and hope.I have a mid-2011 mini that was upgraded to Lion. However, it had a Bootcamp partition running Windows 7. Apparently, whoever upgraded my machine didn't create a recovery boot disk before upgrading. So, I have no recovery partition and apparently no ability to create a recovery boot usb without one.

Jun 3, 2012I was doing a routine maintenence and Disk Utility is telling me I have a few block counts askew. Everything seems to be working fine ( on the surface of things ) but like to be anal and would like to do a repair. However, I don't have a Recovery partition and the App store has decided that I haven't purchased Lion although I did, I can show you the bank statement. I installed a new hard disk not so long back ( I guess this is the reason why the App store decided I didn't purchase Lion!? ) and reinstalled from a Time Machine backup it wasn't seemless but I'm techy enough, to make it work, just not a big fan of spending my days learning terminal commands.I have a mid 2009 MPB so can't do internet recovery, the Recovery Disk Assistant won't let me create a Recovery Disk on an exernal drive since, yes you've guessed it, I don't have a Recovery Partition.
Am quite happy to reinstall as long as it doesn't compromise my data but can't find the 'restore my purchases' button on the app store else if there is a less than obtuse ( and none-sketchy ) method of creating the partition HD.

Is there any way to re-create a deleted recovery partition in Lion? I've read that you can download Lion from the App Store & write it to a USB using the Disk Utility.Â

My new MacBook Pro didn't come with any CDs. Apparently I need the recovery partition to reinstall Lion from the internet. "Recovery HD offers on-disk recovery tools, allows you to restore from Time Machine backups, reinstall OS X Lion over the Internet..." What process should I follow to restore my recovery partition and apply the current state of the machine from a backup? (The process should not involve anything I don't have, like USB memory sticks, Lion CDs, etc....) Supplementary questions which are only relevant if the answer is "you can't" (which would seem to be a major bug!) Or is there a clever method to install a recovery partition onto an existing disk (which clearly has space for it)?
I have searched for it but all the results I found have either not mentioned that it works without reinstalling but look like it's needed, or do say "reinstall". If I install Lion to an external disk, can I boot from that and use the recovery disk assistant tool to restore the partition to my internal disk? (Which I assume I'll need to do to get FileVault to work)?

Jun 13, 2012I accidently deleted some file on my computer that wouldn't let me start up my MacBook pro, 13 Inch, so I had to press Command- R at start up (brought me to Lion Recovery) and I choose reinstall lion and I started it yesterday morning and all day and over night. It's barely half way through and it says "148 Hours Left" which is crazy.. Should I just wait? is this normal? what do I do?

Mar 30, 2012I have not been able to connect to the AppStore. My internet connection may be too slow or there is some other problem. The Apple helpdesk is less than helpful. They do not assist with connection problems. Result: No AppStore for me. So How do I upgrade to Lion? (The problem started when the Lion USB stick was not yet available)Â One possible solution is to buy a new MacBook. I may have to, because the one I am using is falling apart.Â

All articles about Lion recovery assume that you have an internet connection. I have news: not every internet connection counts as an internet connection as far as Apple is concerned. Funny thing is, that all updates to Leopard and Snow Leopard went without problems.Â

The warning directs me here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649 It seems like it'll let me continue, but once it restarted it eventually said the installation failed. The point is I do have a Recovery HD and I don't know what to do about this. Apr 6, 2012I have landed up on the desktop with a temp file. Its been there for weeks, something to do with illustrator I think. I am confident I don't need it any more but I cannot delete it, says it cannot be deleted. Infact I cannot even move it, it just jumps straight back to its place.Â
I tried "sudo rm" in terminal but when I try to drag it onto the terminal window, it just moves back to the desktop and does not enter its location into terminal.

I saw a group named wheel and foolishly removed it from somewhere... I think it was the Macintosh HD... the Macbook stopped!Upon researching, I now know what the wheel group is, and that I should have left it the **** alone. At the time though, I thought it was someone in the house with access to my whole drive.I have tried repairing permissions in disc utility, but still get spinning wheel (ironic) upon restart.

Jul 6, 2012Since 10.7.4 (I'm guessing) my Safari extensions are removed whenever I login at my office location.
I recive an error stating:Â
"Safari can't use extension XYZ because the extension is no longer Valid"....The extension is then removed. Back home I can reinstall and use as normal.Â
As I mentioned this is a relative new "feature" My company uses proxy servers, to manage Internet access. My Computer is not managed by IT, they have no permissions or control over it.
This "feature" only occures when I'm in the office. All Extensions are removed!

Mar 26, 2009I bought a G3 iMac about a year ago as a spare computer, and had tried to remove a disk partition set by the previous user. Now when it boots after the apple logo the log in screen flashes for a second and then disappears, then the icon changes to the spinning beach ball and stays there forever...I assume it is trying to boot from the partitionthat i removed and is confused in somway, can I reset this? or will i need to boot from another device?Maybe i'll need to boot from an ext HD?

Feb 10, 2012So I was attracted and and etertained with the ad of the MacKeeper program because I saw comments that it removed a lot for their macbooks, so i downloaded it and used it. Unfortunately, it removed the Windows partition (not really the partition), which I really need now. It didn't remove the partition but it cleared the system cache. I discovered it when i downloaded a hybrid for my BlackBerry (sorry Apple,. I'm going to switch to an iPhone soon. ) and the file I downloaded can only be used on Windows. So i turned the mac off, (to switch to windows via holding the "alt/option", and to my surprise, it didn't show the Windows partition! So i was wondering, how can I get the Windows partition b ack without reformatting and installing again since i have all the important files there?Â

Mar 2, 2012I bought a new macbookpro and tried to move my large Iphoto library with migration assistent. The assistent created a new user account.It wasn't nessesary because I will be the only one to use this computer. The process of removing (not only the user, but also the 45gig home folder) takes forever... Now more than 24hours and I can't shut down system preferences.Can I interrupt this process, without affecting my admin account, and re-delete the user in the normal way? (Without the safe-option that overwrites 30 times the things I want to delete) And how? I know it's best to leave it alone, but time is a factor.

Windows On Mac :: Removed BootCamp Partition - Slow Startup Time
Sep 30, 2007After restoring my Mac disk to a single volume, and deleting the BootCamp Assistant, I am now having a couple of issues, possibly more still to be found. I initially partitioned my HD to 5GB, but never went on to install Windows. After a while of leaving my HD partitioned, I choose to de-partition it. To do so I opened BootCamp Assistant by double clicking it. Clicked to restore the startup disk to a single volume, followed this up by inputting my admin info (name/password), then my Mac restarted. Last night this successfully removed the partition (hopefully no steps were left out of my description). I then downloaded a Firmware EFI Update that was supposed to be for those who've recently removed Boot Camp.
I figured this whole process would leave me as if I never did the whole partition thing, but now startup has become quite a long process. It was always rather fast. At startup, I now get to see a blank white screen for too long before I see the grey Apple logo and Mac OSX start up. Besides that, I believe my battery life might now be going down faster than before. I've been searching for answers on this forum and [URL] and have found similar complaints regarding startup times, but no definite answer to my problem. Besides the slow startup time and what might be seeming as a shorter battery (although I really haven't clocked before and after), everything else seems to be running fine.
OS X :: Removed Bootcamp Partition - Left With Gray Unusable And Un Removable Space
May 24, 2009I remove the boot camp partition by using the disk utility. Removing the partition resulted in a gray space, that couldn't be used by the Macintosh HD partition. I tried to merge them together, but after working a while the disk utility keeps giving me an error message. I'm not very good at explaining, so take a look at the pictures below. First off i start up the disk utility: Then i rezise the Macintosh HD partition: And then i try to partionate, and after about 5 min an error message pops up: I have no clue how to solve this one.
