May 16, 2012I'm thinking about upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OX Lion, but before I would consider it, I need to know ahead of time which software programs won't run on Lion.Is there some means to scan and search out which software will no longer work on Lion if I upgrade? For example, I've heard MS Office 2004 will not work on Lion, but what about Quicken 2006? Soho Notes v.8.5?Photoshop Elements v.8? Epson Scan 2.73? MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.9? There is other software too of course, but these are the ones off the top of my head which could be considered somewhat 'old' and limited in the compatibility.

Apr 15, 2012I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro (early 2008). I installed Lion back earlier this year so I could use the iBooks application. Big mistake. Since then my wifi connection constantly drops out. I've roamed these forums and tried just about everything suggested. I would now like to go back to the Snow Leopard software I had installed before.
The problem is the last Time Machine update I ran was on Lion (I know *face palm*). If I were to completely erase my hard drive, install the Snow Leopard DVD, then install the Snow Leopard update, would I still be able to use some of the files from my Lion Time Machine back up? My biggest concerns are my music purchases on the iTunes store and Microsoft Word documents....

Apr 15, 2012Recently I have not been able to send email using my Verizon outgoing server on the Lion email client. I can receive OK, but the server keeps rejecting something and a window pops up asking me to select a different SMTP server. Before I called Verizon, I decided to see if there were any free eMail clients I could use as a test and the new Eudora showed up when I did a "Bing" search.Â
I just installed Eudora and after a very quick setup, I sent a message using the Verizon server without any problem, the mail coming into both the Eudora and Lion mailboxes.So the problem is not with Lion, but with the Lion eMail client. I know Verizon does not officially support Macs, but since Eudora works, I have localized the issue to the standard Lion email client. Â
Anyone else have a similar experience with Verizon or some other ISP in not being able to send eMail?Â
First, Eudora is an answer. Second - I would like to resolve the problem with the Lion eMail client - it must be some obscure server setting. I know that it used to work, but I am not sure whether it was with Lion or Snow Leopard. Usually when I send an eMail, I use Cloud and was using MobileMe so I did not notice whether or not Verizon's SMTP server was working.
I noticed it today when I could not reply to an eMail that came in on one of my Verizon accounts. Â

Feb 15, 2009Over on MacThemes, I found Rion's KISSme theme, which I installed, but wasn't really a fan of. So I deleted the SArtFile and Extras files and put the defaults back. However, the titlebar has just done dim and semi-transparent.

Feb 8, 2012I read here that scan software for the HP OfficeJet 4215 under OS 10.5 was being tested and almost ready for release. That was in October, 2009. I can't find it anywhere. The HP download site says that the scanner function of the 4215 is not supported under 10.5. Does anyone have suggeestions on how I can get the scanner to work? Everything I try says, "No Image Capture Device found."

May 15, 2012I used the setup assistant and migrated my macbook over to a new IMac.  Everything A-Ok except Adobe (of course!) and Time Machine.I started a backup and it ran for over 24 hours. Seems to just hang. The back up is "In Progress".I tried to delete it to start fresh but Time Machine simply locks up.Â
For the record I use Setup Assistant on the Migration. Running current lion, I updated after migration. I failed to mention that ITunes is not working, checking discussion board for that now.Â

Jun 15, 2012I have an old CanoScan LIDE N670U scanner which worked fine on a G5 iMac in Tiger (through Photoshop 7). I now have Leopard on a G4 Powerbook and cannot get the scanner to work through Photoshop CS. This is what I've tried :Â Downloaded the CanoScan Toolbox for Mac OS X - this launches VISE which begins the installation then tells me it has failed because "You do not have enough access privileges". I'm doing this in my admin account! Same thing happened after restarting Mac and redownloading the software.Downloaded the CanoScan driver for Mac OS X (the latest version - 7.0.1) which extracted to a folder of plugins etc, and an installer. Running the installer produced two error messages (regarding a .shlb file and a Button Manager) but completed and has installed the driver into Photoshop CS > Plugins > Import / Export.When I run Photoshop CS, the CanoScan appears to be there in the Import menu, but when I select it I get an error message saying the necessary file is missing or damaged, please reinstall driver, driver window will be closed. I've tried all this a few times with the same result each time.Â
I urgently need to get some scanning done this weekend, please help!Â
Extra info - I found a backup of the CanoScan Toolbox 4.1 which I copied over into my Applications folder. The original installer log says there should also be a file Macintosh HD:Library:CFMSupport:pafcv2_carb.lib which unfortunately I cannot replicate without doing the installation (see above). However I'm still getting the same error in Photoshop. And launching the Toolbox doesn't help either - the interface is there but it won't select any program to link to. The driver in the Toolbox appears to be exactly the same as the driver I downloaded separately and installed into Photoshop CS. Â

Jul 22, 2008I have a 15" Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 and I tried to install Leopard today (clean install) after restart and cd loading it brought the screen up to leopard with the space wallpaper and everything but then it said "Leopard can not be installed on this computer" so I shut down by holding down power button (there were no other options & cd wouldn't eject) when it turned back on I eject the CD and it starts up to my old wallpaper and it was back to Tiger again (Wheww!) but when it starts up now, the blinking "?"/Finder Face box blinks like 2x (like it can't find the OS) but it resumes to normal startup, everything is running fine and I was just concerned if I should be worried about this?
