OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Won't These New CD-ROM Games Work
Feb 21, 2012
I have a Mac OS-X and have had it for a year. I have 3 new CD-ROM games that say specifically for Mac OS or PC that are rejected completely when I insert them. Other DVD movies will work fine so I know the problem is not with the super-drive itself. They are new games so are not scratched or dirty.
I have a MacBook and just upgraded my OS couple of days ago from 10.4 to Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Well actually my husband did it for me (Im not great with the technical stuff lol) and tells me it wasn't a clean install but that Apple didn't state this was necessary. Anyway everything seemed fine until I tried to access any of the online games I play from time to time on FaceBook. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the apps I'm talking about but basically you have 'neighbours' and can gift items back and forth, well all my neighbours in all games have disappeared and I have disappeared off their lists too. I found out that Adobe had vanished during the upgrade so I have now installed the latest version of that but although this enabled me to see one of the games I still don't exist on them!! The other games just wont even load - all very strange. Why should a change of OS effect online games anyway? I'm hoping that someone can tell me what I should do about this.....I know that Facebook games aren't particularly crucial but it's frustrating me not knowing why this has happened.
I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro for my college major this year. I had a PC before it, but it crashed and I dont want to have to buy another one since I already payed $2000+ for the Macbook Pro. I have a few PC games that I would still like to play.
So I used Boot Camp to put Windows Vista on my Mac then installed the games to it. The three games I put on Vista were Half-Life, The Longest Journey and Grim Fandango. So after installing each of them I tried to play them to make sure they worked. Both Grim Fandango and The Longest Journey started to load the game but were interrupted with an error message, not allowing me to play. Half-Life on the other hand loads and plays perfectly.
So my question is, is there some way for me to play the two games that didnt work? If so how can I get them to work. The only reason I put Vista on was so I could play those games. And if I cant get them to work I'm probably just gonna take Vista off of my Mac.
I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger 10.4.11. But I want to know which of the apps I have will work on Leopard to be sure that I want to upgrade. Which of these apps work on Snow Leopard? means I need this app to work in order for me to upgrade, so tell me if these apps with this mark don't work on Snow Leopard!

I am running Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro and am unable to connect with Webex once I log into the webex session --- I get this same command on both Safari 5.1.2 and on Firefox 10.0:Meeting center cannot be opened because of a problem.check with the developer to make sure meeting center works with this version of mac os x. you may need to reinstall the application. be sure to install any available updates for the application and mac osx.Â

I used the setup assistant and migrated my macbook over to a new IMac.  Everything A-Ok except Adobe (of course!) and Time Machine.I started a backup and it ran for over 24 hours. Seems to just hang. The back up is "In Progress".I tried to delete it to start fresh but Time Machine simply locks up.Â
For the record I use Setup Assistant on the Migration. Running current lion, I updated after migration. I failed to mention that ITunes is not working, checking discussion board for that now.Â
bbc iplayer does not work, using the latest player, no lists of downloaded programmes and all the other options are blank just downloaded latest adobe air, still the same problems
I have an iMac running on 10.4.11. My question is Can I buy the snow leopard update or will I have to buy the 170 package? Also if I buy the update for my laptop will I be able to use the same disc on my iMac if I'm able to just use the upgrade?
I've upgraded two computers to Snow Leopard and the one issue I'm having is .doc files, .xls files, and PDF files, the icon does not show the file when in column view. When I'm in icon view, cover flow, or even on the desktop, I can see the the thumbnails of the file just fine, but in column view, it does not work. This did work in Leopard. I should point out that the bug does not happen for movie files in column view, just mainly .doc files. I've tried restarting, and this is happening on a Mac Pro early 2008 and on a MacBook Pro, early 2008.
Snow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.
I updated to Snow Leopard. I have an HP 6310 All-In-One. The scanner portion worked fine prior to the update, now an "Unknown Error" constantly occurs preventing me from scanning documents. Image Capture doesn't even recognize there is a scanner available. I have downloaded the most recent driver from HP, (2007), but it still does not work. Will I have to wait for HP to build a new driver specifically for Leopard?
My Laserjet 1020 worked perfectly with a downloaded driver on the MAC OS X but since installing the Snow Leopard it is a no go. Anyone with an idea to make it work would be appreciated. "Plug in your printer, and Snow Leopard makes sure you have the most up-to-date printer driver. If not, it downloads the newest version."....seems to be a mis-statement of facts.
I just installed Win 7 in bootcamp on my mac pro and want to be able to connect to it and control it from my MBP on a local network. I used to just use RDC when I was running win xp sp2 - worked great. Now, RDC doesn't work. I turned on screen sharing and installed realvnc in win 7. But, I can't use RDC still and I tried using chicken of the vnc and also the command-k: vnc://10.0.1.3Neither work - I set up realvnc to only require a password set in that program, the ip addy is correct, and realvnc says it is up and running on the mac pro.
Will Elements 8 work on Snow leopard and where can I find one? Yes, I have looked in the stores and yes I can down load, but I want something I can touch.
I have two websites. The old one is DogToysAndTreats.com. The new one is FunStuffForDogs.com. I need to change the home page graphic on both of them to point to my shopping cart pages. I have done this and published the changes on both sites. It works on my Mac but not on my PC.url...the graphic at the top with the bulldogs is supposed to link to url....Same thing on url... It works on my Mac in both Safari and Chrome. On my PC, it doesn't work on IE, Safari or Firefox. (BTW, I haven't worked on any of the other links until I can figure out how to do it properly.)
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MBPro,Until several months ago my hotmail worked fine, files loaded, showed up in my Mail folder and could be answered using Mail. For the past several months Hotmail doesn't work,It downloads multiple blank files and churns the processor until the machine overloads.Hotmail does work on my iPhone.I have removed and reinstalled the account several times and very old e-mail comes in 'clean' but with duplicates.Newer e-mail comes in blank, subjectless with what looks like are duplicate.
I'm thinking about upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OX Lion, but before I would consider it, I need to know ahead of time which software programs won't run on Lion.Is there some means to scan and search out which software will no longer work on Lion if I upgrade? For example, I've heard MS Office 2004 will not work on Lion, but what about Quicken 2006? Soho Notes v.8.5?Photoshop Elements v.8? Epson Scan 2.73? MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.9? There is other software too of course, but these are the ones off the top of my head which could be considered somewhat 'old' and limited in the compatibility.

I've tried downloading the Apple Software Installer fix and I've deleted the various software update files in the Library; however, nothing works. Once I launch software update, it will give me a list of software that can be updated.Once the computer restarts, I launch Software Update again and it gives me exactly the same list of software to update.
Pogo sweet tooth 2 and poppit and wordwhomp uses Flash and they want always load on my IMac. I have did evrything I know to do and can't get to work right.
Backed up my macbook air using time machine to my time capsule. Then went into iphoto and backed up pictures just to make sure. (They are all the pictures of my 6 and 2 year old since birth, very important to me). Opened time machine to make sure that my pictures had backed up, they were there and I figure everything is good.
I install Snow Leopard and after rebooting all pictures are gone. My iphoto library is gone. I went from 49.68 gig of used storage space on my hard drive pre-Snow Leopard to 17.92 gig of used storage space on my hard drive after installing Snow Leopard. I get kind of hacked off but figure there is no big deal since I know that my photos are in my Time Capsule. I go into time machine and there are 0 jpegs, 0 iphoto libraries and no pictures of any kind other than icons.
I freak the heck out and just plain don't understand. I call Apple 2 hours on the phone yesterday and 2.5 hours on the phone today and I am told that it is a problem being passed onto the engineering department and that they will get back to me but most likely the photos are gone and they are sorry. 3500 photos of my children's lives eaten by the dang Snow Leopard.
This is unacceptable, I did everything right in this instance, backing up my things, even spent the extra money to buy the time capsule, from apple, to make sure my backups went flawlessly. Got an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local retail store for Sunday but I was told today that they will more than likely not be able to help and will just add to the notes on my "Case" with apple.
Since Tiger and even more so with Leopard, I have found the 'Force Quit' command to be a pointless white elephant.
When the spinning beachball hits it tends to make the application unresponsive and then spread to all other apps. Attempting to bring up the force quit function is equally fruitless. Of course, by the time it eventually pops up, the offending application has either quit itself (I'm looking at you Adobe CS4) or has become responsive again (I'm looking at you Safari).
Has anyone noticed any improvement in Snow Leopards?
